The 70's called, they want their theory back.
2020-04-03 14:15
It's not a theory, it's a scientific fact. The fact that medication exists for it that actually improve people's mood and balances the hormones proves you wrong, you ill-informed dumb cunt. Go back to Reddit.

static.hltv.org/images/bigflags/30x20/US.. Yep, NA education. Depression is not just a chemical imbalance, it's roots are implicated in altered brain structure. In fact, many mental disorders are associated with altered brain structure that seems to be more or less consistent across patients. This also seems to explain as to why it is very challenging to treat depression and outright impossible to cure many mental disorders. Had it merely been related to a deficiency of a certain mineral for example, treatment would simply be to supplement the patient with said mineral for a given amount of time until the defeciency was resolves. However, this is not the case.

Retarded attention whores and soyboys with 0 testosterone claiming this on social media, because their parents didn't give them enough attention as children. That being said, I do think that the amount of actual cases of depression is on the rise as well, due to the shitty corporatist state that society is in right now. Although still, 90% of "cases" are merely fabricated by attention whores, like one guy on HLTV who made a thread titled "depressed" because he couldn't find his guitar or something. It's the same shit with people faking to be 52 gendered or something.

Theironic truth is that most of those who actually have depression, would be more likely to indulge in self-isolation, meaning that you would hear next to nothing from them on social media/

>implying you can deduct specific behaviors from a heterogenous syndrome such as depression >implying childhood neglect doesn't lead to psychological problems, such as depression There is a rise in reported cases, because lighter symptomes are reported, that's true. Doesn't mean, those are insignificant.

First of all, why are you using ">" like some weeb out of 4chan? Second of all, if you couldn't deduct specific characteristic traits out of depression, then how would it even be possible to diagnose it in the first place? "implying childhood neglect doesn't lead to psychological problems, such as depression" Strawman. Did I say so, otherwise? "Doesn't mean, those are insignificant." If you recall correctly, this it the internet we're talking about, where people for one tend not to be so familiar with the bigger picture typicailly, such as seen in #16. Just experiencing low mood for a few days following a breakup with your egirl does not qualify one for a proper diagnosis. Second of all, this once again being the internet, it is totally not as if one could just fabricate a pack of nonsense and just report it as he/she wishes. Especially not considering the fact that the rise of social media has all turned us into attention whores to a certain degree.

You did the opposite, you said "people with depression are likely to behave like x", implying they won't show behavior y. While that may be usable as a superficial heuristic it is not a reliable statement generally, even less when considering a heterogenous syndrome like depression. ICD criteria for depression and other disorders are phenotypical, aiming to describe disorders for researchers and insurances. Psychodynamically there can be found many underlying causes, manifesting different kinds of "depressions" that aren't to be found in DSM or ICD. Your point was that people misuse the term to gain attention ("Retarded attention whores and soyboys with 0 testosterone claiming this on social media, because their parents didn't give them enough attention as children"). While that may be true, we can't know if it is or isn't by merely looking at a tweet. People may describe states that don't qualify as depressive disorder as such. But it is also true that light cases of depression have been diagnosed more often in the last decades due to the removal of the stigma that had been in place before. This information can be found in Richter (2008).

Depression? Isn't that just a fancy word for feeling a little 'bummed out'?
2020-04-03 14:19
There are different kinds, while the word depression may be used a bit too freely nowadays, those who actually suffer from its sever form are way off 'just' being a little 'bummed out'.

That is depression you moron, depression is a result of other factors causing you to have a hormone imbalance in the brain, it can often be caused by nothing and just be a condition you have.

latest studies have show that its not about chemicals but more the receptors being broken.
