Life in Russia
s1mple |
Germany doomjudgement68
A few months ago i went to russia to visit and i went to st.petersburg, moscow and sochi. The country looked so nice and there were so many celebrations happening, in red square there were a bunch of christmas markets, skating rinks, stores and inside gum was very beautiful. Even going around the city it looked very nice and clean, and the metro came literally every minute and it was still crowded af. I took sapsan so i got to see the village life and how it was outside of big cities and it didnt look that bad. People who live or have lived in russia, is living there a lot worse than what tourists see or is it actually a good country to live in but it is portrayed poorly in media

A lot of people are poor.
2020-04-05 08:07
Would you say the average person in a large russian city is poor? I would imagine that the older ladies on the busses in st.petersburg collecting 40 ruble per person for bus fare aren't that rich but when i talked to them they seemed very nice and happy so it didnt seem like their quality of life was bad

Of course they will be pretending cool and funny when they see a guy from another country
2020-04-05 08:20
I mean i only spoke russian with them no english or any other language and they never asked where i was from or if i was russian so maybe they just assumed that i was russian because not many tourists go to russia in december . I also have russian ancestory so i look kinda russian

I was in st.petersburg at the end of november (I'm from moscow myself) and seen a lot of tourists there in historical placements and museums. If you can speak russian, message me on twitter and let's talk a bit, I want to know if you are saying truth or baiting. My twitter - twitter.com/Divait88
2020-04-05 08:29
I don't have twitter or Cyrillic keyboard but trust me my russian isnt the greatest but i have a decent vocabulary and i usually use cases correctly, a lot of it is similar to german. Usually at tourist attractions there was a lot of people but most were also russians, some Chinese and some kazakhs. However i was mostly talking about the busses and the more local places i dont know what these are called in english but i went to the stolovoya and there i dont think i saw any non russians at them

«a lot of if is similar to german» 0/8
2020-04-05 12:23
I mean i wouldnt completely disagree, a decent chunk of words resemble similar words in dutch (my native language), so it wouldnt be too strange. Edit: although obviously they are very different languages
2020-04-05 17:27
I am a russian speaker and I studied german for a few years. “A few words” is exactly how I would describe the similarities
2020-04-05 17:40
im fluent in german, not so much in russian though :D. There is a decent amount of overlap in vocabulary. Structurally theyre obviously completely different.

In 90th it was just more crazy, but by being an alpha I mean being smart and having strong mentality, for example fighting for yourself everytime when people are throwing wrong facts at you. (they like to do that in CIS)

but at any place in the world and in any country you have to be alpha if you want to rise. USA the same. it depends of side of view. in russia you can live well even if you are a calm peaseful person

I'm not really agree with that tbh, usually every peaceful person in Russia is just a good friend of somebody, who is better than him. In Europe you can be a peaceful smart person, not being in need of friends and having your little bussines without problems. Also they can live on unemployment benefit. In USA I dunno how it is tbh, but hard as well I assume.
2020-04-05 09:49
If you want to have small business maybe it's true, but if you want to have big business then there will be problems. :D And in Asian countries you won't be able to have even small business unless you have good connections.

i know but i was able to see the people outside of cities because i traveled by train and looked out of the window, espeically just outside of saint petersburg there are a lot of villages with small black metal houses that didnt look so great, but that is true for most countries, in america for example hollywood is a lot different that south chicago
2020-04-05 08:20
its not about city or village, its about regions. In reach region villages will be better than cities in poor regions xD
2020-04-05 08:34
what are some of the poor regions? my grandma was born in chelyabinsk in ussr and she said it wasn't great life but a lot better than what people think
2020-04-05 08:41
Dagestan, Chechen Republic, Ingushetia
2020-04-05 09:41
Pretty much every person born in mid-ussr will tell you how great it was and how bad it is now, but it’s nostalgia speaking. They were young at these times and lived more happily because of that. My grandfather was in a queue to buy a car for 7 years and he still talks about that car constantly. My grandmother had to work on a very dangerous chemical factory for my grandparents to receive a very small flat (she died because of the chemicals she inhaled daily at that job later in life), even though my grandfather worked as a miner (another very dangerous job, one of the most prestige ones at that place at that time). When I start to bring the bad stuff up (like what I said before), my grandfather always goes silent and says he doesn't want to talk about it. Deep in their hearts they know it was terrible, but it’s still always the nostalgia, or, in some cases, brainwashing speaking.

He thinks that only his point of view is true and honest and all other is lie and propaganda. True liberal attitude.
2020-04-05 09:04
Typical Putin's retarded vata supporter. Why are Liberals bad, can you explain? Do you hate equality for anyone in terms of right? Do you hate Freedom of speech? Do you hate Respecting of every personality as a law? You dumb vata must be happy if your Fuhrer Putler will move you 100 years in the past and you live there, aren't you?
2020-04-05 16:40
bro, I donlt support Putin, but at the same time I love my countryl (I am Russian). But if you are a liberal, then I have bad news for you. A smart person will never become a liberal, remember!
2020-04-05 17:21
You have 0 arguments against Liberals also, am I right? You hate them just because you're another "victim" of Russian propaganda.
2020-04-05 17:23
I won’t explain to some randomly mad Ukrainian hltv guy who hates Russians for no reason (or maybe the Russian guys just beat you when you were a kid, Idk) why liberalism is shit for stupid idiots. And please stop talking about Russian propaganda, what does it have to do with it?
2020-04-05 17:27
1. Russians annexed my Crimea, Russians occupied my Donbass, Russians violated all peaceful agreements with us, Russians spread fake news and propaganda 24/7 against Ukraine, Russians killed more than 15 000 of my countrymen. So don't tell me these retarded stories about "who beat you at your childhood", ok? This is not my story. 2. "Liberalism is shit for stupid idiots" - nice argument, you dumbhead. I see that you are VERY "SMART" so I can believe you that Liberals are "bad". Ok.
2020-04-05 17:29
I'm Russian. I personally annexed Crimea and the Donbass, killed your mates, right? How stupid you are, omfg. Stop doing this shit. Start working on yourself. About liberalism. I don’t want to explain anything, but I’ll just remind you that now hundreds of thousands of white girls are subjected to violence by migrants only because of left idiots. If you support this, then you are really retard.
2020-04-05 17:37
> "I'm Russian. I personally annexed Crimea and the Donbass, killed your mates, right? How stupid you are, omfg. Stop doing this shit. Start working on yourself." No, but Putin DID NOT elect himself, right? So your countrymen (maybe including you) voted for him. So you're all responsible for this. > "About liberalism. I don’t want to explain anything, but I’ll just remind you that now hundreds of thousands of white girls are subjected to violence by migrants only because of left idiots. If you support this, then you are really retard." The most retarded explaination I've ever heard. How does "liberalism" related to women's rapes? Are you 20icq or what? Liberlism is an ideology.
2020-04-05 17:39
He means liberal acceptance of refugees, still typical Ruski
2020-04-05 17:44
Yeah I know what he meant, but he tries to make these things as a one which is more than just retarded. But it is expected since he blindly hate Liberals and cannot even properly explain why. Typical victim of Russian propaganda against Liberalism.

They always exaggerate the problems in their own country and underestimate them in another. All the dew of God is in their eyes, at least. u just saw icing on the cake man ;P deeper u go in russia, more u dissapoint, Medicine and economy system are garbage, putin decided that average wage of russian ppl is ~350$ where minimal is ~200$ or even less with current ruble and oil ratio (all u have to know) xD
2020-04-05 09:16
1. USD is not a currency you can spend in a store, you need Roubles. Rouble is undervalued in 3 times according to BigMac index. That means buying power of $350 is equal to $1050 in Roubles. 2. Putin pays salaries only to government employees and they are mostly ok. Low salaries in regional business is connected to low labor productivity, bad management, lack of technologies and investments. Government should not fix and support each "bicycle workshop" it's your own business.
2020-04-05 09:42

Moscow + S.Petersburg aglomerations = ~25M people Chelyabinsk + Ufa + Omsk = 4-4,5M people 25>4,5 so Moscow + S.Petersburg 5 times more Russia than Chelyabinsk + Ufa + Omsk altogether. If it's so trash make it better or leave. Crying makes zero sense

Like every country, Russia has good places to live in and bad places to live in. If you live in good place (for example, largest cities with 1M+ population) it doesn't necessary mean that your life will be good by default, it only means that you will have more opportunities, so if you have good knowledge, experience, useful skills, then you can have decent life.

New York is not USA London is not UK Berlin is not Germany Tokyo is not Japan Dubai is not UAE ... your logic is bullshit, mate
2020-04-05 14:22
London, Berlin and Tokyo are not actually much better than an average metropolis in UK, Germany or Japan. In fact if you exclude Berlin with all its inhabitants from German economy you will see that GDP PC actually rises up. NY is a better example, huge economical hub, but purchasing power and standards of living there are worse than in most big american cities; Austin, Houston or Denver are better than NY almost in every public/economical param. I have had arguments with you already and your geography and economic knowledge makes me upset, so please don't talk to me with your ignorant comments.
2020-04-05 14:36
It all looks like: "Hello HLTV, I'm from Wevok, Alaska. We're in total shit here, very poor, no even asphalt or whatever. I must say Los Angeles is not USA!" It just looks idiotic. No one cares if you live in shithole. It's your personal choice where and how to live.
2020-04-05 14:42
You are funny, you bring some idiotic statement about "Wevok, Alaska" and call it idiotic. The problem is that I was comparing your examples to other metropolises, and already explained why your whole point in #97 is wrong. Moscow produces 22% of the national GDP, it's not normal situation for any tier 1 country, including countries from your examples. mos.ru/mayor/themes/12299/6116050/ media.strelka-kb.com/gdpcities (tldr: rbc.ru/economics/27/05/2019/5ce7da9e9a79.. )
2020-04-05 14:53
Bro, it was your message: >+1 Moscow is not Russia It has absolutely same meaning as "NY is not USA" If you wanna go deeper I'll tell you: All countries are different in terms of history, territory, social system and even climate. There are no 2 similar cities in the world. London is not a copy of New York or Tokyo. So why do you suppose that Russia should mimic western countries? More centralised system MAY have advantages in many ways. Why do you think that decentralisation will improve life level of particular social groups? I will tell you what surely can improve it - Go Fucking Teach Yourself. Learn coding and make apps, websites, Learn videoproduction and make vlogs or ads or animation or movies Learn language and make translations - 95% of today knowledge is not available in Russian, it's a huge market Learn design and make projects of every single piece around you, or your car or house Learn whatever you want and become a master in that business - this will bring you money, not fucking Putin or oil prices
2020-04-05 15:22
My point was that Moscow is not Russia in terms of standards of living, and you basically admitted it.
2020-04-05 15:25
Why does that difference surprise you? Metropolia always lives better than province, in any system.
2020-04-05 15:42
Reread #99, I already explained that you are wrong

I appreciate your attempts, but your statement has zero meaning from personal perspective. It's typical mistake to take a snapshot from another system and try to mimic it with your device. Not working on a large scale. Why do you think it's important to notice the difference between the Denver and NY?? It has no practical use for people from Russian regions. What do you give them with talking 'bout your table data? If Moscow is not Russia then Russia is not USA and Chelyabinsk is not Denver, right? And I give them very useful advice - Learn, Teach yourself better. Exactly learning may move them forward.
2020-04-05 15:56
How stupid you are?! Like seriously... This guy just proved you that average life in Moscow and average life in any other average Russian city is VERY DIFFERENT. Moscow and Russia are like two different countries in terms of living standards. And you, idiot, say that THIS kind of situation is in all countries? How dumb are you really? Have you ever visited any European city in your life? Living standards in Berlin are almost equal to Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt and any other German city. And living standards in Moscow are FAR FAR better than shitty life in any other Russian city except St.P. How dumb must you be to argue against this FACT or even OXIOME?! :o
2020-04-05 16:30

Is Moscow not comparable to other Russian cities in terms of standards of living? --> YES, you admit it by yourself Do your shitty examples in #97 make any sense? --> NO, Berlin is actually POORER than many German metropolises, and other examples you listed are not that richer in average than other metropolises in countries they are located in. You keep trying to change topic every comment, but I'm not interested to talk with you the whole evening. I have no idea why you mention Putin, I don't care whether you think that regional inequality is ok or not, I don't care about your views on self-development and so on. You don't have friends and need someone to talk with? I was glad to help, but please get some basic economy classes before talking to me ever again, ty, bye.
2020-04-05 16:31
>Is Moscow not comparable to other Russian cities in terms of standards of living? --> YES, you admit it by yourself 1. Moscow is comparable by list of available services and goods with any other Russian city above 100k. Same brands everywhere 2. Salaries are higher in Moscow, but expenses are also higher. Also, you should compare apples with apples, not with oranges. Cashier in Magnit will have roughly the same amount of disposable money after all mandatory payments. And Project Manager in big company will have more comparing to the similar position in Samara because of bigger revenue of the whole company business. 3. Man, you confuse private talking with online board discussin. I'm not writing to you personally, but I discuss topic in public
2020-04-05 16:55
The difference is staggering though.

Well moscow doesnt represent the russian average standards at all you know
2020-04-05 14:39
Who the fuck cares of average standards? In USSR we had everything at "average" level. Everyone was "an average Soviet worker". People didn't like that and smash USSR out. People needed freedom to make whatever they want and now they have it. But they still want government to feed them with breast. Time has changed. Learn, work, earn, make progress or stay poor, this is how world lives. Social preferences is not a gift, it's all hardly earned by previous generations of Europeans, what we haven't done here.

But in russia your every average worker wont have a good life no matter of what you do, in many other countries the average nobody worker will live a good quality life, thats the difference
2020-04-05 16:24
Dude, you're arguing against typical Putin lover and vatnik who lives in Moscow and enjoys stealing resources from other regions to his home city. It is useless... :) I tried, trust me. :)
2020-04-05 16:36
Do you consider it's a better justice when a well-educated and talented employee pays out of his taxes for the cheap work of understudy worker? You simply rob talented people with high taxes and hand out this money to leniency, idleness and refugees, and call it social justice. Let 's see where such socialism will lead you

How does a well educated employee pay the salary of a lower class worker dude wtf is this logic Our system has worked out great so far, I got over 1k a month for studying and so does everybody else, if it wasnt financially available we wouldnt do this, literally if you dont happen to be a drug abuser that cant get your head around work you will get a good pay and get a very good life for yourself here, in the end, we need the garbage collectors doing work, everyone has a place in society, and im happy that everyone gets to have a good quality life no matter what work they do, but I highly doubt this is happening in russia and here you are saying YOU NEED TO DO THIS AND THAT AND THEN MAYBE GOOD LIFE IF YOU LUCKY, FUCK EVERYBODY ELSE AND I THINK THAT THE AVERAGE PERSON CAN BE POOR, THIS SYSTEM TRULY WORKS IN MY BRAIN - even higher
2020-04-05 17:10
Those money Finland pays to garbage collector is earned by some engineer who spent many years to get good skills. And the product he developed - it costs more because of taxes needed to pay for underworkers. All this lead to expensive life, big taxes and less justice all in all. This system does not motivate people to grow themselves and it will finally lead to technological retardation what we do actually see in moment.

Well if it was so bad everybody would leave but its not, Finland is one of the most innovative countries in the world, many great things have comed out from our country even considering how small and how little population we have, and I would not consider our tax or living cost terrible considering you get good healthcare, good education, good infrastructure and safety for it You dont seem to understand at all how a good working society is operated, but you dont live in one so I dont blame you
2020-04-05 17:31
It's all about psychology, why even go to school if I will have salary as educated one anyhow? Where is motivation? At least In Moscow, Russians Do Not Work As Garbage Collectors or on any other low profile job, mate. It's a shame to be uneducated. No education=low life Btw, my condolences to those finns who are on low profile/dirty job.

Oh who the fuck is going to do the shitty jobs then? IQ -1. If you pay shit then you get shit as a result Ofc you wont get as good pay as a engineer but its still not bad, and why would you eventually not educate yourself more since its free and available, there is always those that want to work as a cleaner for example and are happy with what they do, Are you actually retarded or just delusional? Ofc its shitty society if you have to be top educated to even get "good pay", feels bad for all the russians since so many can get that
2020-04-05 17:54
>Oh who the fuck is going to do the shitty jobs then? There are many countries with low economy like Ukraine, Moldova or Middle Asian countries. >Ofc you wont get as good pay as a engineer but its still not bad, .... there is always those that want to work as a cleaner for example and are happy with what they do, Get ready and try not to blow up )) - Exactly this separates great nations from mediocre ones.

You're so dumb that you cannot understand that when a country has ABSOLUTE CENTRALIZATION OF RESOURCES in 1 CITY = IT IS BAD, you know?! You're typical imperialistic dumb Moscow citizen (yes, Moscow citizen, not Russian) who enjoys dumping all money and resources from other regions to your big shithole Moscow.
2020-04-05 16:34
Xlopets, what is your business here? We don't talk 'bout Ukraine here. Imagine who would be interested in UA opinion on Russia. Go teach your wife how to cook borsch.
2020-04-05 16:39
THIS is called "HUMAN RIGHTS" and "FREEDOM OF SPEECH". I can talk about EVERYTHING here on this forum and you CANNOT forbid me that. I know that in your shithole country such terms as "freedom of speech" are: "error 404 not found", but don't give up. Maybe in 200 years you will have same rights as normal people.

What a load of absolute BS. You've basically seen the three richest cities in Russia (Sochi has become one only recently). Go visit other less lucky cities. Go visit Russian state hospitals in these cities. Go check where and how non-moscovian lives. A rich European asshole.
2020-04-05 17:28
Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, and Sochi are the richest cities in Russia. Visit a city outside of those and tell me what you think.
2020-04-05 17:41
Well, same goes for other countries. No ?
2020-04-05 18:05
not really
2020-04-05 18:05
New York, Washington, Los Angeles and Denver are the richest cities in USA. Visit a city outside of those and tell me what you think. What about Detroit ? What about Chicago ? I can go on and on. What about the fact That you have the highest unemployment rate since 2008 ? Tell me "Western partner" how do you live all on loans? Tell me that without insurance, people in Your country simply can't pay for their own treatment. What delicious food you have. In General American. You are happy there, we are happy here. All over the world in countries like this. It does not happen that all cities are equally developed.
2020-04-05 18:05
Oh, there are fantastic cities in every state. The "villages" in your country don't exist here. There aren't that many small town shitholes outside of the South and Appalachia, but they are relatively few in number. There's a ghetto in every city, but the only really large ghettoes are in LA, Chicago, and New York. We have a shit ton of issues that need to be improved but our cities and small towns aren't all poverty-stricken
2020-04-05 18:08
That's what I'm talking about. Politicians do one thing, we ordinary people do not need these feuds. On the contrary, we must look for the best in each other and for common ground.
