Losing at video game turns off the ability to feel good
OCEAN |
United States KKonian
Losing at video games frustrates me and for after quitting off i no longer have the ability to feel good for hours or even days sometimes. Its like losing and situations frustrates me so much that my brain just shuts off to protect myself because all i feel is just empty nothingness like the feeling of bordem without the ability to make it go away during that time. I know video games are dog shit for me because inevitably it will end in frustration but i keep trying to play them again and again

I am a very stat orientated person. Just thinking i played fine to the best of my ability isnt enough. I need to see it on the scoreboard and with the victory screen at the end of the game

i get bored of single player games easily. I am unable to do any kind of big strategy or building style games because i get overwhelmed and i like everything to be perfect so i just want to start over or stop playing it. I am incapable of playing any kind of creative building games. So the only games I am left with are multiplayer player vs player games which involve losing with means frustration

well not for me at least, a 1 hour session in a BR game, get you more games than cs, so i don't feel bad if i lose one, in the other hand 1 hour session, gets you only 1 or maybe 2 games in CSGO, so the game feels more important, and you feel frustrated if you lose

true, i just hate being flanked in br games tho and tilt so much if i play solo or solo with a team . but when playing with friends i dont really give a fuck because im having fun and just doing stupid shit anyways playing solo just makes me focus a lot and then when you die after doing all the correct things in the game because some stupid player decided to do something and misses and somehow kills you by accident and that sort of stuff makes me tilt getting killed by stupid enemies is frustrating, not just in br but in any game out there

Many professional athletes suffer from the same. This makes them practice more. In the end, you end up losing about 50% of the time if you are playing at your own level, no matter how good or bad you are. The only exception is if you are in the top 3 in the world, and if you are improving rapidly.

OK, I understand you better now. If you can understand WHY you get those feelings, it might make it easier. I am pretty sure this would also help you in other areas of life as well. This may sound stupid, but for many people, including me, it is sometimes difficult to name the feelings we are having. This often has to do with our parents not being able to connect with us emotionally, when we were young (or today). This often goes back to their parents, and their grandparents...

Well, a lot of people would probably call you a sore loser but I wouldn't. I think you probably just have a strong winning-mindset. The things you have written so far remind me of a friend of mine. -Do you take competition seriously, do you ALWAYS play to win? -Do you see no point in just participating, winning means everything to you? -Are you the type of person that thinks that you can't win silver, you only lose the gold?

If i'm not clinical and i start missing some easy headshots even though i have good stats i get tilted and i end up choking and losing all day long.

I think you dont have a job that you love or another hobby, this why lose in game hurt you so much.

I understand getting mad after a game for a couple minutes while you queue for another but hours or even days sounds absurd tbh I don’t think that’s normal.

you need to find specific type of games something where you can lose but it doesn't hurt that hard Horror games? Puzzle games? Platformers? Maybe try something like Amnesia (Horror), Shovel Knight or something like that. edit: on the other hand, maybe just take a break from games
