Your "analytical standpoint" can only be subjective, as in this case you're trying to argue that one player was better than all the others in a sports 100+ years history, while you never get to compare them by seeing them play against each-other, they're not even playing in the same century and there's no way you can objectively compare a defender with a forward/midfielder/goalkeeper other than achievements. And if you compare by achievements then you're not getting the picture that you think you would.
Personally I would say that Messi was impossible to play against from 2009-2014 and has been absolutely great outside those years. But at the same time Ronaldo has had a very different career and has similar stats. For me, Ronaldo has the better mentality as he's a hard worker and he's never giving up. I really dislike how Messi can sulk when things are not going well for him and how he's retired from international play twice already.
