STOCK MARKET UPDATE
 |
Norway JorgyZ
How is everyone doing? Did you participate in the stock market rally or did you stay out because you listened to all the retards on hltv who told you to short the market and sell out of everything because it would surely drop another 50%? What are your thoughts going forward? Bull trap? Bear trap? Made any good investments? I wanna hear what people have to say. Personally im soon in the green after buying most of the way to the bottom, ive sold off a big part of my investments now though as im seeing the bull trap, i dont believe in a rally all the way to the top again. I have around 40% of my money invested and 60% cash atm and all my investments are into some norwegian companies i believe in. I want to end my intro with these words that ended up being true so far during this pandemic: the market isnt logical.

Only a fear and greed dance with current pandemic, number of covid-19 cases in the US for example still goes high the same speed, so the stocks there will yet go down again most probably imo from investments point of view i think soon it will be a best time for an real estate investments maybe in whole century)) (skipping crisis of 2007–2008) btw no investments for me, living in the post-2nd world))

Bought some JetBlue because airline bailouts should save them from any real damage. Also, they're easily the best American airline, so I trust their longevity more than rivals like united or American
2020-04-09 17:27
how much did jetBlue pay you?

Never heard anyone say JetBlue is the best airline, what do you base that off of?
2020-04-09 17:43
My experience with them. They aren't good, but all the US airlines are bad. JetBlue is the least bad of all of them
2020-04-09 18:52
Market sure as hell isnt logical. I find it completely bisarre that indexes are going up. I smell bulltrap. Staying liquid.

I agree, im aware that the markets will probably start rising to old levels before we are done with corona but this seems very early still. We still dont really know what effects the virus will have on the economy and any kind of news that this will be worse than expected will send the indexes down again. Then again, trying to predict the market is like flipping a coin most of the time so yeah.

 |
Norway JorgyZ
Well, inflation will happen no matter what the FED does.
2020-04-09 17:49
what reality would reflect a let's say 50% market drop though? half of the world quarantined?
2020-04-10 15:08
So bottom line of my calculation is that the gain in 2019 until january 2020 was roughly 26% or something like that. (indexes) These companies that makes up the indexes didnt not increase their sales in this year, so only their valuation went up. So 26% would be market correction only. Aside from that a lot of big sectors are now standing completely still, a lot going bankrupt, like hotells and airlines. Production in industry has also been halted for months in many places. Then we have goverment care packages. Without them I'd say minimum 75% decrease in indexes. I think -30% to -50% would reflect reality. I mean you can't compete with money printer going BRRRRR at the FED. Could also be that it creates a crash in the future but it's not happening now.
2020-04-10 15:17
I have only 10% of my money on the market currently. I sold before the pandemic, so I was lucky. I bought back little after drop. About even at the moment. I'm thinking what to do with 90% of my money, afraid to invest it because I fear another drop.

got my hands on some oil stocks the past few weeks. shell, occidental and stuff like that. theyve already got like +50% since buy and i expect them to rise even further once we have reached an agreement with opec and putin.

Not sure if an oil cut will have that much impact in the near future, oil will still be overflowing the market in the next months. The demand is literally gone.
2020-04-09 17:39
i didnt buy to sell them with a nice profit, which would be the case atm, but im planning to keep them. in the long run, the demand for oil will be even higher than before the crisis. so i think those cheap oil stocks were a worthy investment

Did bitcoin recover? I saw it dropped 50%
2020-04-10 01:05
Yeah, it was just a flash crash cuz of leverage, NOT weak hands or anything negative.

 |
Norway JorgyZ
Something like bitcoin doesnt drop 50% in value because of leverage only
2020-04-10 11:38
Yes it does when you have morons using 100X leverage EDIT: Now that's soldiering!

100x leverage isnt even possible, you have a weird understanding of the market
2020-04-10 14:59
"Trade Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies with up to 100x leverage. Fast execution, low fees, Bitcoin futures and swaps: available only on BitMEX."

#76
 |
Norway JorgyZ
A 100X leverage would mean that every tiny little piece of downward move, like 0.1% red and you lose literally everything, the most ive seen being used is 15x and thats super risky
2020-04-10 19:18
Hence the flash crash, After the crash was over, instant rebounce and now slowly but surely returning to 10K and above again.

2020-04-11 16:46
No, leverage caused the 24h drop from +10k to 4K, then instant bounce to 6k, now slowly grinding back, nothing special really.

MAD MONEY
2020-04-10 21:13
Sold most of my active portfolio in end of february after sell-signals. Started buying slowly again after some positive momentum, have about 20% invested atm. Allocated some cash to buy more shares in my "passive" buy-and-hold portfolio, mostly Storytel, Evolution Gaming, Nibe, Mips and Investor. Bought some Investor mini-futures aswell with some small money that are roughly up 55%, will be scaling down that soon. Still sitting on majority cash, waiting to buy more. Short-term momentum looking strong but still waiting for longer bullish EMA, hopefully after a second wave. Volatility is finally going down somewhat but I'm far from confident in the market. Then in long-term it will be interesting to see how the market reacts to both Q2 and Q3-reports. So many things still unclear about everything so almost impossible to make any calculations and predictions. All in all I'm currently down about 4% this year and I'm pretty happy with that. Btw, have you invested in Tomra Systems? It's my only Norwegian stock atm.

 |
Norway JorgyZ
First actual good comment on the thread, congratulations. Volatility is great though, my dying wish is to see some 10% red days again during this pandemic, maybe unlikely though. 4% down for the year is very good, id be around that mark as well if i didnt short oil price right before trump started tweeting lol. Ive owned Tomra Systems before, but i do think it might be a little overpriced. I would sure as hell not buy it at over 300 NOK.
2020-04-10 23:48
Yeah that's unlucky, the volatility in oil has been ridiculous, never bought any oil myself but been interesting to follow.. I have quite a small post in Tomra, but got interested after seeing them in an ESG investment-event in 2017 at my university.

It was probably a mistake from my part by choosing something with a 3x gearing, i figured it would be safe enough. Have you ever looked at mini futures with less gearing than 1? For example a 0.5x, in my head that means youre the one lending out money and would in turn receive interest on it and have a 200% safety margin. I havent found that it says anything about it in the product catalogue unfortunatly.
2020-04-11 10:49
Never heard of it
2020-04-11 20:15
Mini futures don't work that way but you could use option contracts to secure your position. Nothing any small investor should bother doing though since it requires much more expertise than buying stocks.

Norwegian Air Shuttle is in deep shit, but they did secure their current survival with fresh liquidity recently. I owned stocks in the company before but sold out after i discovered that the profit margin of the company is awful and that they were spending way too much to grow and didnt have any money for rainy days. Also doesnt help that management is like a bunch of donkeys. There are very few big norwegian investors left in the stock now and the company will be loaded with debt the coming years, we'll see if they survive or not.
