ok lets have a thought experiment
Imagine you are 14 and you start playing cs go today for fun, not knowing of the cs go pro scene
the quorantine hits, you got nothing to do so you just play cs go most of the time
you realise that you are good and soon get global
you play there for a while and the game gets progressively easier as you go along
you are looking for a challenge
you hear of a place called faceit with the fansy tagline: Challenge your game
you think to yourself, well, thats it, thats the place where i ll finally be playing interesting cs
you grind Faceit, expecting to plateau at one point, thinking u would never be good enough for a spot in the pro league. you dont think of yourself as a professional, you play for fun, why would you be able to grind that high...
but the plateau, it never comes, you storm through 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000 elo. you maxed your level playing for free and the game starts getting easy again
you seek a new challenge
you buy faceit premium as a few years have passed since you were 14 and you have disposable income
you keep playing
you get to master
you think to yourself, well, surely thats it, i am not gonna get any better than this but you do, you get into the fplc qualifier and get the 1st place.
then it hits you
"I am actually good"
I was just playing for fun, I never noticed how good I was but suddenly I am playing with these players who win tier 3 tournaments, have salaries, who are pros
You get curious, you start following the scene and you see all these big names, playing on huge stages, for tons of money. You look at their skill and just see yourself. Everybody speaks of their ability as if it was godlike power but you hit shots like them everyday, over and over again
You are inspired now, you seek to play against these big names, you want to show off your ability, because you know you want be falling behind
You grind even more, you look at the very best players, watch streams, demos, try to get an idea of how they think, get into their heads, prepare
After months of grinding you get into FPL, something you never dreamed of, you finally get to play with the best players you saw win majors on twitch
You enter your first game, but you dont find these players, yes the ones here play better than FPL-C but you have never seen them win anything, you havent heard of them, you only looked at the very best ones, people you would instantly recognise, but not them.
You decide to play rotator on dust 2 as some 30yo sounding guy tells you OKOKOK and suddenly you are worse than hitler on HLTV, because that guy has done something in the past, but you never new of his existance since he isnt tier 1 anymore and you never idolised him as you never saw him win anything and he seemed to you just like a regular player, who didnt even defend himself and as any other person would, didnt protest your choice of position.
Doesnt work for Scream I guess, but znajder for sure
