Standford university study indicates that the COVID-19 infection fatality rate is basically the same as with the seasonal influenza. youtube.com/watch?v=jGUgrEfSgaU

how is it going? still think it's a flu?
2020-04-20 21:16
absolutely u still think this virus has a 5 % mortality rate?
2020-04-20 21:17
flu has 0.02% death rate u still think they are the same?
2020-04-20 21:19
dumb-d-dumb-dumb-dumb-d-dumb-dumb-dumb? (stupid)

south park refernce?
2020-04-20 22:31
yes
2020-04-20 23:34
no, it has a 6.88% mortality rate as of this moment compare it to the 0.2% mortality rate of the flu and you'll see that you are just a dumb sheeplet
2020-04-21 02:30
hahaha 6.8 % ? are u actually retarded? maybe 6.8 % only if u measure the seriously ill ones that are in intensive care already. stop fearmongering with such bullshit numbers. The estimated number of unknown cases is waaay higher. just watch the video and hes telling you why their study indicates these low numbers.
2020-04-21 12:04
I'd rather believe actual proven statistics than some "assumptions" by some random dude lol. And yes, confirmed deaths * 100 / confirmed cases = 6.88% While more people might have it than the number of confirmed cases, more people could've also died from it, how about YOU use your brain? #168
2020-04-21 13:24
you know that MILLIONS of people already had/has covid19 without any symthoms what so ever... those 6,8% you are speaking of is 6,8% of TESTED ppl... its a wery low ammount of infected ppl that actualy are tested... understand???? jesus use your own brain..............

2020-04-21 15:15
I’m not saying he’s right, but this crisis is most definitely not “overblown”. Many cases are not being diagnosed (which makes the official fatality higher) but also many deaths (due to covid) are not being diagnosed either. I’m thinking about places like China (who lie constantly about almost everything), India (who can’t afford to test and have a very unsanitary country already), Brazil (like the US, “muh freedom” instead of staying at home to survive, but also denying things are going badly) and such problems. Not only that, these numbers are WITH MEASURES TAKEN. just IMAGINE if countries like Italy, France, the UK, Spain, the US (to some degree) and all the other countries who decided to keep their people at home hadn’t taken these measures???? It would be absolute chaos. Our health systems, already being ripped to pieces by the number of patients, and number of deaths would be completely overrun. There would be so many more deaths than there are today. Trusting in people being careful? Right, there’s too many idiots around who either don’t know how to prevent being infected, or like you who don’t think it’s a dangerous virus. Think about what you say on the internet before posting it. Just because you want to be a contrarian doesn’t mean others have to witness you making a fool of yourself (you and others who think this virus isn’t a big deal)
2020-04-21 12:29
u says this while sweden has no lockdown, and theyre doing fine. The best method would be to carantine people who actually are at risk of bein killed by it, and not the whole population. This epidemic is very serious, yes...but we also had very serious flu pandemics like in 16/17. We are heading towards a serious financial crisis that could end up in a depression...what about all the people that will suffer from this? livehoods are being threatened and a simple look at sky rocketing suicide rates during past financial crisis make these lock downs more of an ethical question than most people assume.
2020-04-21 12:39
No, sweden are NOT doing fine. The reason their cases and deaths aren't as high as for ex. Italy's, is that they are not testing whatsoever. They can't know if some1 has died from COVID if they don't even test for it, what do u wanna try to prove, sweden is fucked
2020-04-21 13:27
Well, are they doing fine? They have the most dead in all of Scandinavia: 1580 dead, compared to 360 in Denmark, Norway with 180 dead. Sweden has double the citizens of each, but massively higher death ratio. And at the same time its not clear if a survival grants immunity, since in South Korea douzens of people have re-infected (not clear if so or just not fully healed, to be fair). BUT: To say that Sweden is doing fine, is a simple and stupid lie. They are doing okay and might be settled for a second outbrake wave which other countries might not be, but they are paying a high price.
2020-04-21 13:31
The only reason Sweden are doing “alright” is because thty have slightly more reasonable people, less idiots in general. So people there get infected less naturally. However, as #174 said, they aren’t testing a lot and they’re clearly not doing well. Look at Norway, look at Finland, look at Denmark. All went for lockdown and all fairing off far better than Sweden. On the other hand, I also disagree with countries trying to lift lockdown since the same thing is just going to happen all over again until a vaccine is found. This virus can infect you multiple times and a lot is not known of this virus. The logical conclusion is to avoid as much transmition as possible. We already know that viruses and diseases in general have sometimes killes millions and millions of humans, so the absolute caution is required. I understand why “lockdown bad”, it might not be the absolute best method, but it’s pretty damn good. Time might yield another way of fighting this virus aside from finding the vaccine but jumping to bold conclusions like herd immunity could prove extremely dangerous. Remember? That’s what the UK were going for until the number of cases started exploding and the health system couldn’t deal with it anymore. Sweden is one of the richest countries on earth with one of the best health systems on earth as well. I assume the solution for Sweden and the solution for Brazil for example will be very different so Sweden are not an example to follow.
2020-04-21 13:38
ok tell me what % should a virus have?
2020-04-21 15:43
Italy have been recorded as falsely attributing some deaths to the virus that weren't actually caused by it also Italy has a very old population who would be more susceptible to these illnesses, the average age of people dying from it is something like 81 years old

2020-04-20 19:53
I don't understand. Everyone says its like influenza and we shouldn't freak out but then these countries are faking the deats? Like italy, spain, france etc. It should be no problem but their healthcare just collapsed right? What am I missing here?
2020-04-20 19:58
you are missing how many people die because of the normal flu. In Italy 24´000 people died because of the flu in 2017 for example.
2020-04-20 20:00
none of these death cause to collapse of their health caring system tho?
2020-04-20 20:04
yes they absolutely did, u just couldnt read about it anywhere
2020-04-20 20:05
it never happened in italy, how the fuck would you know better than me?
2020-04-20 20:10
u know nothing, u just fell for the media hype.
2020-04-20 20:11
hahahahah
2020-04-20 20:11
in italy: flu - 24k in a whole year. corona - 24,114 in 2 months AND increasing. add to that, quarantine, isolation, social distancing, all the stuff that should decrease the number. i guess it is like 10x deadlier than a flu. so we can expect to see at the end of 2020 like 240k deaths just in italy and we are not prepared to deal with this.
2020-04-20 20:21
no its not 10x deadlier than the flu... did u even watch the video? and the flu season is only a couple of months, not the whole year
2020-04-20 20:23
Every death is counted as COVID, even when they don't have it.
2020-04-20 20:57
In all honesty, this is the only reasoning I accept from people who claim that it's just a flu. Because if you trust in the numbers you're given, every argument that could be made for that just falls apart instantly. The question is just, how much the numbers can be trusted, because if nothing else, they're astonishingly consistent for countries that have a big enough sample rate. Countries with shit healthcare/capacity all sit around a death rate of 30% out of the closed cases and most countries with good healthcare/capacity sit around 15%. Everyone who believes in some kind of conspiracy that they're all lying to us equally is clearly an idiot, but how then, do they all get the same - wrong - numbers?
2020-04-20 21:15
actually braindead
2020-04-20 20:56
maybe check it out yourself u fool. the health care system certainly was on its limits in the 2016/17 flu pandemic
2020-04-20 20:58
if you make a claim it's your job to prove it also you are unironically arguing that somehow it's okay that people die. if anything it's bizarre how okay people are with people dying from the flu or car accidents. I mean by the same logic why care about e.g. terrorism? why have a military?
2020-04-20 21:03
statnews.com/2018/01/15/flu-hospital-pan.. sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1.. and yes, dying is part of nature. It is normal that the elderly and weak die due to stuff like a virus. what a shit comparison with terrorism
2020-04-20 21:11
your sources say the opposite of what you claim. the healthcare system didn't collapse because it was predictable and hospitals were able to handle the crisis mainly due to vaccination. also nice zero IQ ethics. why care about preventing deaths or hospitals anyway if you don't care about people dying? imagine all the money you could save from not carrying about terrorism anymore? who cares if there are a few terror attacks, 100 dead is nothing compared to the flu.
2020-04-20 22:37
Everyday life barely functions in Italy though a fart would collapse everything on any given day
2020-04-20 20:06
sure buddy
2020-04-20 20:19

2020-04-20 20:01
So imagine for a second that the world didn't take any of these new measures. No social distancing, no closures etc Do you really think in that case the death toll would still be comparable to seasonal influenza? The only reason the death toll is comparable is because of those actions taken to slow and limit the spread of COViD. Would be much much higher if we treated this like seasonal influenza. Obviously things will change when there is a reliable vaccine which can be distributed to each country in sufficient supply, but until then anyone who considers this just a flu is retarded
2020-04-20 20:15
well said
2020-04-20 20:16
2020-04-20 20:20
i dont think u understood what this study was about. its not about how many got infected, its about how dangerous its compared to the seasonal influenza.

Literal retard, congratz
2020-04-20 20:22

5 % average death rate? HAHAHAHA you retarded idiot just watch the god damn video. the infaction rate is up o 85 times higher than suggested.. 95 % of people dont even notice it when they have this virus.

2020-04-21 02:10
Also I didn't even mention that there are hundreds of thousands of deaths not factored into the official numbers yet, so making conclusions like op did is just laughable
2020-04-20 20:17
op is a clown
2020-04-20 20:17
the fuck are u even talking? hundreds of thousands of deaths not factored into the official numbers yet... LMFAO

2020-04-20 20:21
theres pepperoni pizza piss?
2020-04-20 21:49
so many idiots in here who cant even understand what the guy in the video is saying.
2020-04-20 20:36
just because one guy is saying something doesnt mean its automatically the truth with capital T
2020-04-20 20:45
well he doesnt just say something, they made a scientific study.
2020-04-20 20:47
yes and there are a lot of other studies who make different assumptions about infection rate and ratio of known to unknown cases and get different results
2020-04-20 20:48
the question is which one is more representative. In the stanford study they tested 3300 people without symptoms, for anty bodies.
2020-04-20 20:53
in the study i linked in my country they tested 4000
2020-04-20 20:55
if you have a lot of sources saying its completely different things then its best not to make threads telling people its a hoax until you know for sure.
2020-04-20 20:57
thats why i said study INDICATES. when u read about stuff like 5 % mortality rate its completely reasonable to discuss a study that takes the wind out of the sails of fear mongers
2020-04-20 21:16
yes except that those 5% mortality rates are actually based on the current data which is subject to change and this guy just pulled some numbers out of his ass.
2020-04-20 21:17
yes i agree, and this study is also a subject of change to the current data. lots more will come. lets wait and see
2020-04-20 21:20
please dont post more threads with your conspiracy bullshit until theres something conclusive okay? you can literally get people killed.
2020-04-20 21:23
so a stanford study is conspiracy bullshit? lmfao so u think this video is completely out of place and should be taken down? and i can get people killed because i reposted it? what about the suicide rates that tend to exorbitantly sky rocket during financial crisises?
2020-04-20 21:27
just because a study was done at stanford doesnt make it automatically credible lol. it has to be peer reviewed and there have to be confirmation studies.
2020-04-20 21:30
thats why i wrote study INDICATES...
2020-04-20 21:31
yes, but if youre wrong, and someone listens to you and goes outside, and they infect more people, then thats not great is it?
2020-04-20 21:34

Sorry to say, but if you read some of the first lines of the actual article you would see that it is not peer-reviewed yet (which invalidates it for now). Also, the way they have chosen their test-group is insane to say the least, they chose people "randomly" through facebook ads..... To people who don't want to read it at all here is the conclusion as written in the abstract: "The population prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in Santa Clara County implies that the infection is much more widespread than indicated by the number of confirmed cases. Population prevalence estimates can now be used to calibrate epidemic and mortality projections" So their conclusion is not "for now" it is for further research. Stop misinterpretate the research and read the actual article.
2020-04-20 21:09
can u read? i clearly said INDICATES
2020-04-20 21:13
I can read, thank you for being concerned. I just really think it is a very far fetched conclusion. Indicating is just not good enough when they make policy that can cause deaths of many thousand people. I do hope that this study is correct, or even overestimated. But it is just too early to say. And you cannot deny the fact that the collection of data is insane, no matter how many control variables they have included in the analysis.
2020-04-20 21:45
its more agrresive than flue

Imagine April 2020 and still a fLu
2020-04-21 06:50
Most of the countrys are just pissing on the population with "smaller" numbers, in Portugal, for example, they claim that there are less and less infections altough one day they test 1000, the next one 2000 people (having the capacity to test 4000+), saying that the virus is under control and the hospitals are prepared when the doctors come forward and say they are running out of equipment, or have none already. It is the urge to save the economy before the people that causes panic and distrust in them, right now they just closed restaurants and schools, they are reopening schools in 2 weeks time, while the numbers(infections) didn't even peak yet, the restaurants are working in take away since day 1, so half-measures. Don't be stupid enough to think that this is just a flu, mainly because 2017 influenza DIDN'T affect 2.5 MILLION people in 7 weeks, killing already 170k+. Everyone will believe what they want, you may not be affected but anyone in your family with respiratory desease, even light ones, or 65+ is vulnerable to this, so if you are fine risking their life so you can go out and pretend it is just a flu go ahead, I hope not, but if you find yourself on the other side of the situation like many italian, spanish, british, french families are now remember what you are saying here.
