Cause basketball relies more off of individuals then a deep roster. U can make a great team thatll contend in the playoffs with 3 star caliber players, but in hockey, u need a deep roster with depth to be able to go on a run in the playoffs.

Basketball wasn't a thing in Turkey in the late '80s. Then Jordan came and kids&teenagers didn't sleep and roleplayed fever to watch the GOAT on business. Then these kids&teenagers became older and started to play basketball to represent their country on NBA and they did it.
It's nothing but a shoe on Scandinavia so I can understand your point of view. But basketball is a very popular sport in the Balkans, Baltics(except Estonia), France and Germany.
There are also Partizan, Crvena Zvezda(I hope I didn't write that wrong), Fenerbahçe(Galatasaray fan speaking, our team sucks at basketball so we root for Anadolu Efes) etc.
