Beer drinkers, come here!

Sweden friendly_swede
I recently turned 20, which means I can finally buy alcoholic beverages above 3,5%. I am interested in beer and curious by nature so I'd like to try out pretty much anything. Send some nice beer suggestions please! Tldr: gib beer tip plz.

Corona with lime or Asahi
2020-05-13 13:57
I've had Corona 3,5% with lime before. Good chill beer but a bit watery. Is there more flavour in the higher abv ones?
2020-05-13 13:59
No. If you want good simple lagers, just ask the people at Systembolaget. They are mostly very competent and can easily help you find something you'd might like based on any preferences at all and your price range. Just make sure to go there outside of rush hours (don't expect top level service at 16.00 on the friday after the 25th). otherwise, just by Poppels stuff. Its fantastic (I am not fakeflagging leave me alone :( )
2020-05-13 14:04
Working in IT or were you just visiting? I know they're competent at Systembolaget btw, but at the same time it's fun to see what HLTVers like, you know?
2020-05-13 14:06
Working IT :) Well, buy Poppels if you like something more bitter... Millennium lager is severely underrated despite it being a shit tier beer really...
2020-05-13 14:09
Ericsson then I presume ;) I'll check them out, I enjoy IPAs so poppel will probably be nice.

Belgium has a great range of beers. From normal beers like Jupiler, Stella and Maes. To stronger blond beers like Omer, Duvel, La Chouffe, Karmeliet. And stronger dark beers (not my type personally) like Rochefort and Chimay,

Damn I'll try to remember that the next time I drink one of your disgusting beers
2020-05-13 15:57
Must feel cool to hate on a universally liked thing for critics, you probably know way more than people who dedicate their lives to this stuff. Cool man!
2020-05-13 15:58
Cool when you realize the opinions of critics don't usually translate directly to your average joe. I don't really have anything against Belgian beers, I just think Bavarian, Czech and Austrian are better. Belgium offered the best food I've ever had, but I simply wasn't overly impressed by the beer. Why the fuck would I care what some experts have to say? The subject of taste is entirely subjective.

Beer recommendation: Tuborg classic, it's the best out of the major beers in Denmark.
2020-05-13 14:14
I've had tuborg guld, how does that compare to it?
2020-05-13 14:16
Haven't tried guld, so idk the taste comparison, but it's probably better than Carlsberg (the only Danish beer I can get cause I live in the UK rn).
2020-05-13 14:17
Alright, I'll try it out. Thanks :) Carlsberg is pretty decent btw, you'll be fine ;)
2020-05-13 14:23
yikes, carlsberg is one of the worst beers dood
2020-05-13 14:58
I don't know man, it's watery, but it's a long way from undrinkable. If I've been working hard outside in the summer, any beer is good as long as it's cold. ;)
2020-05-13 15:12
Yes, you're right bout that
2020-05-13 15:17
It's pretty bad imo, but better than a lot of shit you get over here in the UK. Coors is shit, stella is ok, fosters is meh, Heineken is ok and corona extra is decent.

Uhh well for me as long as it's not the cheapest beer (which are dogshit) the midrange beers pretty much taste fine though I can't tell big differences between beers in same categories, so just dont buy cheapest ones and youre good👍 PS. Imagine needing to be 20 to buy over 3.5% though, thats a bit dumb. 16 for all alcohol where i live 😎👍

Grimbergen Blonde or Grimbergen Double Ambrée 6,5% Tuborg Gold 5,6% Jacobsen Carlsberg 1883 4,6% For X-mas Carlsberg 47 7% Carlsberg Elephant 7,7%
2020-05-13 14:30
My dad has horror stories about elephant haha. He's done a lot of stupid shit in Copenhagen while drinking it :D
2020-05-13 14:32
Haven't we all? :D All of these beers are for great taste and in moderation - not for getting drunk
2020-05-13 14:33
What's the deal with grimbergen being popular there? It is not really considered one of the better beers in Belgium at all. It's considered quite "low tier" legitimately cant even recall anyone ordering a grimbergen ever
2020-05-13 15:53
It's considered very mainstream here as well - just like all Carlsberg and Tuborg. He wasn't asking for a beergasm - just beers with a higher alcohol% and he lives in Sweden, so.... Please share your recommandations, that we can also buy in Denmark/Sweden - I actually love smaller brand beers as well
2020-05-13 16:16
Anything goes for me. If you can recommend a beergasm, then do so :)
2020-05-13 16:42
For me it's Carlsberg 47, Carlsberg Elephant, Rød Tuborg and Skovlyst Bjældeklang I like the danish classics - and have tasted a lot of brews from microbreweries, but they can't (in my taste) compete with the above I like my local Skovlyst (their locally produced stuff mainly) - Bøgebryg og Birkebryg is nice - won't give you a beergasm :) + Nørrebro Bryghus and Svaneke Bryghus (Brown Ale is super!)
2020-05-13 17:05
throw it in the garbage and get anything else that doesnt taste like absolute shit
2020-05-13 14:25
And what would that be? Water? Coffee? Energy drinks? Be a bit open minded.
2020-05-13 14:27
look at his name
2020-05-13 14:27
Ah, fuck
2020-05-13 14:28
this isnt even a troll beer is fucking disgusting, ofc i mean something else with alcohol, I would much much much rather drink for example jägermeister red bull or vodka orange than beer
2020-05-13 14:40
yeah i mean jägerbombs are good af, vodka mixes are fine aswell. i didnt used to like beer either but i do now, so its weird:D
2020-05-13 14:49
Maybe I will like it too when i get older but it seems like because of beer everyone just gets drunk casually at basically any gathering and if you pull out the Jägermeister you are the alcoholic, so I guess its good that i dont even like it
2020-05-13 15:04
heh i dont think its about age but rather getting used to it:D damn i dont enjoy raw jäger anymore even though its cheap (9€ for 7dl) cuz too many bad experiences, can still chug it but rather not;D
2020-05-13 18:53
Exactly it's about getting used to it, when I was 15 I drank 1 bottle of vodka every friday and now I can't even take 6 fucking shots without getting drunk xd and opposite with beer, I think it's the same as coffee, when u start you don't like it but if you drink it every day you get used to it and you might like it at the end
2020-05-14 21:07
I don't know man, I enjoy beer but maybe it's because I like other bitter foods/drinks. To each their own. Jägermeister is delicious btw. :)
2020-05-13 14:52
i didnt want to seem that aggressive in hindsight i just really dislike the bitter taste, I would rather have something taste like very very sharp mint instead of beer because I have to drink a lot to get drunk enough
2020-05-13 15:03
You should try Minttu then. It's a Finnish peppermint liqour
2020-05-13 15:05
I never heard of it and never saw it here but I will try to get it, thanks <3

Just checked the price of the Jack (in Sweden of course). It's way more expensive than what I expected. It's around $35 here, so I get why you'd buy cheaper whiskey.

just buy cheap whiskey. sometimes you're not in the mood to drink it and you decide to drink anyway, so there's no point in wasting expensive stuff.
2020-05-13 14:34
Hasn't happened yet, but I'll take your word for it. I managed to keep a chivas regal blend (a gift from gf) for two years before finishing it though. I think I'm good. ;)
2020-05-13 14:37
I just googled : 10 year old single malt Laphroaig Damn, now I gotta try that :D I will be working after 1 year, will be in a better position to buy single malt whiskeys I am 25 and studying right now. But what we do, 4-5 friends contribute money whenever we want to party...so per head cost doesn't come out to be much and we can still drink the costly whiskeys. I don't drink beer. Never liked it. My favs are the bourbons: that sweet smokey taste is just awesome.
2020-05-13 14:40
I've never had bourbon, but I'll be sure to try it out. I'm very interested in bartending and I like having friends over and showing them something new :) The Laphroaig is a bit like a really old rope, if you know what I mean. Tar, smoke and a bit of caramel too, highly recommend!
2020-05-13 14:42
I like Czech pilsners the most and my favorite is Pilsner Urquell. I sometimes like to drink dark or wheat beer too. Dark Kozel is my favorite dark beer and Hoegaarden is my favorite wheat beer.

It's a bit basic to be fair, but my local store is quite big. Lots of interesting beers to try!

Elephant (danish beer) has like 7% while also tasting quite good, so it is the go to beer for me.

Aaah, okay. Thanks for the suggestions!

Brooklyn is a nice brand. If you like IPA that is!

I had the 100w IPA recently. Not too bitter and with some subtle citrus notes, strongly recommend. I'll try out the Brooklyn btw!

Try finding local or smaller producers. Those large brands produce awful beer.
2020-05-13 14:45
If you can find it in Poland, try Pistonheads lagers. Small Swedish brewery which imo makes really good beer.
2020-05-13 14:49

If you ever stumble upon beer from Gotland Bryggeri (the Gotland brewery) you should pick em up! There you got some really damn nice beer! Tho hard to find in other parts of sweden, might be impossible in poland. x) ("Sleepy Bulldog" is one of my favorites from that brewery)

2020-05-13 14:46
so if you are 16-19 you can only buy alcoholic drinks under 3.5%? thats interesting. please explain your drinking laws. my suggestion is to try all types of beer. ale, lager, stout, pilsner, bitter. i dont think you'll instantly like any. you kinda built a taste for beer. drink the one you like most as much as possible. get fucking mad drunk on it
2020-05-13 14:53
From 18 years old, you can purchase up to 3,5% but drink anything. At 20 years old, you can purchase anything, but any drink with % over 3,5% needs to be purchased from our government owned stores called Systembolaget. They have some weird opening times and other quirks which really distinguishes us from the rest of Europe when it comes to alcohol laws. If you're under 18 I think the limit is 0,5%, but you're allowed to drink up to 3,5% under parental supervision.
2020-05-13 14:57
If you like the strong ones brewdog ( brewdog punk ipa <3 ) if not chimay or goudale
2020-05-13 14:57
I think you should try various types of beer and focus on quality. Don't buy beers for the masses, do some research and look for smaller producers. I guess it will take some time before you find out what you like in a beer and what kind of beers are you favourites, so try as many as you can (not in one evening though :D)
2020-05-13 15:01
Haha, yeah I want to try many different kinds. My dad only drinks cheap lager, which I haven't found that tasty yet. There's been a lot of local breweries popping up here in Sweden the past years, so it's really exciting to try beers! :D
2020-05-13 15:02
Same trend here in Poorland, lots of small new breweries. Good luck, amigo. hope you'll enjoy it :)

2020-05-13 15:14
I never understood "peer pressure" thing, sure I was offered alcohol a lot and every time I just say "no" and they are like ok cool, nothing wrong with not drinking alcohol. Some people took it personal and this is when I cut contact with them. I still sometimes drink alcohol on special occasion with my family and friends. I saw what alcohol can do and how many of my friends failed to control it and now living the worst life possible, stay safe and drink responsibly.

I have no clue how accessible german beer is for you, but if you are interested in that i could make a little list of what i like
2020-05-13 15:32
It's very accessible. I live in the south of Sweden so I've gone to Germany with my parents many times just to buy alcohol.
2020-05-13 15:44
This is just from the top of my head, and what I like to drink semi recently. Most brewerys i listed make more than one type of beer, I find enjoyable, some are listed more than once. Also I have no clue if there are equivalents in english for "Bayerisch Hell/Dunkel". Might provide you with some ideas, what to look for. If you can even find this stuff. Most of theses aren't really the most common beers in Germany, so that might be hard. Störtebeker and Andechs might be the easiest for you to find Hell Arcobräu - Mooser Liesl Chiemseer - Hell Vulkan Bräu - Hell Augustiner Dunkel Kloster Scheyern - Export Dunkel Vulkan - Dunkel Weizen / Weissbier Störtebeker - Bernsteinweizen Kößlarner Weisse Kloster Andechs Kloster Aldersbach Porter Störtebeker - Hanse Porter Vulkan - Porter Mönchshof Landbier Mönchshof Märzen

Coming from beer country and having tried a bunch I can recommend the following: Leffe blond (my personal favorite) Duvel Jupiler
2020-05-13 15:37
Lol? Talks about having tried a bunch of beers, lists the 3 absolute most standard beers belgium has to offer
2020-05-13 15:55
But the best they have and those I recommend. Wouldn't u recommend the best ones? Or would u recommend the ones no ones ever heard of at the off chance of him actually getting the beer?
2020-05-13 15:57
You recommend fkin' Jupiler? Dude, wtf, tastes like every other beer in the world
2020-05-13 18:10
It doesn't taste like any other beer but it's my go to beer when partying. Leffe blond/Duvel is more for home parties and restaurants.
2020-05-13 18:48
Ever had something like Tripel Karmeliet? Blows beer like Jup and even duvel out of the water.
2020-05-13 22:42
Of course. If you really wanna get drunk fast that's a way to go. But I prefer the taste of Duvel over Triple Karmeliet.
2020-05-13 23:33
I actually just prefer the taste of the tripel over a Duvel

i saw czech beer in normal supermarkets, try to buy it there (alkoholmonopolet) in uncucked version
2020-05-13 15:47
i think the best policy regarding alcohol is letting people get familiar with it. in germany you can buy beer and wine at 16 yo and everything else at 18. I have started drinking at like 13 yo lol. I know my limits and only very really get really drunk.
2020-05-13 15:47
same in Belgium. Get hard drunk at 14, then you can enjoy the rest by knowing your limits. Works well

2020-05-13 22:43
Hey Belgian beer drinker, maybe you can help me with this. I've been drinking sour beer the last months but in sweden you can only get Geuze and i would like to taste some real sour lambic (i realy love sour things, the mor sour the better). What i've heard you can only get lambic in Pajottenland and you have to drink it from the tap. Is it possible to find unflavoured Lambic to drink at som bar/pub that you know of?
2020-05-13 22:46
these aren't even the top tier, cos you could go abbey beer, but they still are better then 99% of the world imo

2020-05-14 00:03
Oh yea they're great. Cara is a gift from the gods. But he was talking about beers that taste well to really enjoy i think, and there are some ones with stronger and maybe more "exotic" taste that would be great for dégustations and shit. As for lambics, kriek is top tier, especially strawberry

2020-05-15 09:31

2020-05-14 00:55
You can purchase up to 3,5% from the age of 18. When you're 20 you can buy anything in a state controlled liquor store. This is not similar to the rest of the EU though. Most countries have less strict rules.

2020-05-14 19:50
Just try out different styles of craft beer, my favorite style is IPA's, and soon you'll find your favorite style and after that prepare yourself to waste quite a bit of money on good beer :) Edit: stay away from the cheap lagers, most people never try other kinds of beer an assume that all beer tastes like piss. There's at least one beer style that will be pleasant to you even if you hate "regular" beer, I promise.
2020-05-14 19:52
Partially agree, but you shouldn't sleep too hard on the cheaper beers. Some of them are surprisingly good tbh

It's actually really funny that sweden and denmark are so similar when it comes to so many things but the alcohol culture is so different The average start of alcohol intake in denmark is 14. Probably also the reason why denmark makes hellah good beer and Sweden makes mediocre beer - Tuborg is a good starter beer my swedish friend
