Im not going to watch a ltt video but from my experience gaming on linux is a nightmare. Even if you can get proton to work if the game has a anti cheat you will be unable to play. Even if the game launches frame rates are usually worse or the same compared to windows so unless you're too lazy to pirate windows gaming on linux is pointless.

so unless you're too lazy to pirate windows gaming on linux is pointless.* Windows cost roughly 6$ or something from some reseller in india - I think most people gaming on Linux, does so because they like Linux better - I could never dream about gaming on anything else than Windows, as gaming on any linux distro is a nightmare - But workwise i prefer linux
2020-08-03 18:11
Not sure when is the last time you tried playing on linux but it is far from nightmare. As for anticheats, most can and do work under wine/proton, and it is mostly Easy anti cheat and BattlEye that do not work: and that is only because they intentionally try to break it as soon as linux community figures out how to run them. As for the framerates, csgo for an example runs better on linux and it isnt the only one. Most native linux games run better, and performance difference with proton is neglectable. linux is definitely not pointless as it has plenty of benefits to it and is definitely not for the lazy - it is for advanced users

Yeah, good luck: "This is what Microsoft admits to log when you do a Windows Update. Windows Update privacy statement * Computer make and model * Version information for the operating system, browser, and any other Microsoft software for which updates might be available * Plug and Play ID numbers of hardware devices * Region and language setting * Globally Unique Identifier (GUID) * Product ID and Product Key * BIOS name, revision number, and revision date" trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/wiki/do..

Yeah, what is hooked up to your PC and what their IDs are. Because Microsoft really has to know. Basically, if you travel with a Windows machine, Microsoft knows where you've been if only you touched the Internet, because of those personally identifying data points. You don't need a Microsoft account for them to know that. If you change a video card or hook up your friends printer, Microsoft knows too. They even know which friend you likely took it from.

People get trauma for being doxxed all the time. Spying is the same, it's just that you don't realize it happened. I don't advocate for ban for social media. They can be used private too. For example, if you use Tor Browser and throw away accounts on sites such as Reddit youre pretty much not affected at all in regards to your privacy.

Privacy is a fundamental human right, recognised as such by the UN and ECHR. What are they gonna do? Put it into your dossier, like they always did. Now what changed though is that you don't have to be a person of interest to be spied on, as it's done en masse.

LTT video = hard pass. On the subject - no, and it's never going to be. Just because of the amount of different cores and builds it's really hard to adapt the game to work properly with it. But as we stand now Linux pop of gamers is tiny (1-3%, I guess), and the number of optimization needed is huge, so noone is gonna bother.

Fair enough. Tech "vlogs" havent really become oversaturized for myself yet, so I can still find enjoyment in some videos (mostly ones not about mainstream products, like newly released phones. ) I didnt experience the transformation you talk about, but I can understand that perspective.
2020-08-28 11:08

There's totally a place for tech vlogs when it comes products where a lot comes down to preference. People still buy Iphones even though logically noone should. In this case preference is totally irrelevant - you need facts, benchmark data, clearcut comparisons. And that's where the tech blogs fall short. I'd suggest Gamers Nexus if you want raw unopinionated facts.

Krita is cool. There is no reason why good graphics software shouldn't work in Linux. It's just a lack of will on the developers side. I/O operations are much faster in Linux/macOS than in Windows. In theory, many programs should actually run better.

Gotta love all those people in here whining and hating on Linux with no knowledge about it whatsoever. Is Linux for everyone? Probably not. Will you be able to play any game on Linux and use all the anti cheat software? Nah you wont. Will you be able to easily play CSGO MM on Linux with way lower privacy concerns and actually less problems then on Windows if you know a little bit of what you are doing on linux? Definitly yes. AUR is not less secure then installing software from the internet (windows) or using PPAs You can always look into the build scripts and check, what you install. Also you dont destroy your system as easily as you do with PPAs. All in all I like to be in controll of whats on my computer, what packages I install and there is no better OS for that out there without taking massive downgrades in usability. Also I primarily said I'm using arch because of the meme. I'm using arch btw

It simply isn’t. Sure it might deliver higher FPS peaks at certain instances but it also delivers lower FPS drops. It’s not stable to play games on.

Yeah i tried it and it felt awful playing it on Linux. That only shows us the FPS, and it’s only for one game.

Perhaps your drivers weren't quite alright. It happened to me too. I recommend giving a simple Debian 11 + GNOME a try. It has been hassle free to me for half a year now.

I get significantly more fps on linux with gamemoded than I do on windows for csgo (even with proprietary NVIDIA GPU drivers), but no anticheat will ever work reliably on Linux so you can't play serious CS

They will. It's the question of pressure users put on developers.

i'm not that familiar with the technicalities of the linux kernel but i'm pretty sure an anticheat for linux would be a pain in the ass to make because of filesystem and permissions, let alone all the dependencies and all the ways a heavily tooled OS like linux would allow for obfuscating the AC and hacking on secure servers. I hope you're right but I can't really see it happening anytime soon

Yeah, Ubuntu is a piece of crap. Use plain Debian instead.
