for me it is caused by my anxiety disorder, if it gets really bad I have a sedative I take it is basically just the fight-or-flight response that happens to me at random, luckily not often if it is keeping you from functioning normally (like it was for me), I would go see a doctor about it

Like #24 said, put on a stream and have dim lights. When I can't sleep, i watch a stream play csgo, and usually I'll be out in 30-45 minutes (but I usually do this method at like 2 am as a last resort.) I'd advise not to take sleeping pills; I did for a brief period, and while it did help for the time I used it, I got reliant on it, and after I stopped using it I had a hard time falling asleep (worse than before)
