okay we know there are some sites which offer u free skins and u have to login where it asks your steam username/password and steam guard code, okay i understand that they can login into your account... but how can they trade your skins? change password? remove mobile phone and change e-mail? like how? can somebody explain me? haven't fallen into this but i know many did so i am wondering how exactly they get control of your whole steam account by just logging in?

2020-07-14 00:51

never know

i think they can bruteforce through the mobile authenticator

Could they possible be able to get the steam API key? If I'm not mistaken that's something that can leave your account vulnerable.

you need to pass 2fa in order to make one.

They passed when the person gave their mobile code, once they are logged in you dont have to get another code. Thats what this scammers do, they set an api key and when you do an empty trade (you give skins for nothing) they cancel the offer and make another one to their bot that now has the same name and profile picture as the person you were giving the skins to, and then you confirm on your phone and you got scammed.

how actually steam API works and why it needs to be? i mean ive searched for it and i found a link which shows that i dont have steam API and i can make one

if they remove your mobile they would need to wait 14 days to be able to participate in trading
2020-07-14 00:49
they can cancel your trades and make new ones that send them the skins, then you accept it on mobile (if ur dumb, or not checking)

this is what anomaly told but yet there is more. whole account is getting hacked and steam guard removed, my friend had to prove to send his passport to steam support and paychecks just to get his account back after it had steam guard on

Idk exactly how they do this, but steam sets a trade cooldown in this case to the potential victim get his account back before the scammer can cashout.

Once you trade items (deposit on gambling site etc.), they'll automatically cancel your trade offer and redirect one to a different account which looks similar to the one you should have traded your item, then you can easily accept the trade accidentally on your phone.

they cant but similar scam exist...when you login on scam site they will stay logged in on your account and they cant change any acc info but they can decline and send trades so what happened to me is that I tried to send 1$ skin to a friend and bot instantly declined trade and sent trade to their bot account who had same name and profile pic like my friend so on mobile confirmation I saw my friend's picture and name so I didnt suspected anything... I wasnt even mad that scam was worth 1$ tbh
2020-07-14 00:58
yet i am hearing that whole account gets stolen with all the items on iit
2020-07-14 00:59
hey maybe here we have some scammers between us and he could explain how this shit works?

2020-07-14 02:10
whats new about any of what u said? anyway its the api
2020-07-14 01:56
and if i dont have API?
2020-07-14 01:57
they make it for you just go to the page and reset, that way even if u fell for the scam u will be safe afterwards
2020-07-14 01:58
okay, now i have question to steam then, why they are doing nothing about it? cuz so many scams are going around now, so many fake s1mple/shroud and other streamers streams going around twitch or youtube
2020-07-14 02:01
cuz theres nothing u can do about it, api is used for many thing other than just scamming dont fall for the scam
2020-07-14 02:16
i am not falling but it actually sounds so easy to scamm and steam guard is useless at that moment
