Why is reading books considered such a good thing? I'm tired of people using how many books someone reads as a measure of their intellect. You're not a genius if you read, reading doesn't instantly increase your IQ by 100 and someones argument isn't invalid just because they don't read. There is no point in reading books, you're not getting anything out of it except mental practice Change my mind.

I Just read em for fun and hope I learn something useful or interesting along the way. Anyone who thinks they are smart because they solely read books is a douche canoe. Saying there is no point in reading books however is moronic.

"There is no point in reading books, you're not getting anything out of it except mental practice" This is so retarded You get nothing out of watching a movie or a tv show either..?? It's for your enjoyment
2020-07-16 11:38
Honestly book reading is fun. It creates a bigger spectrum of thoughts that things like series or movies would never be able to achieve imo. Book reading >>>> watching anything on netflix and stuff
2020-07-16 11:41
+1,when u read books u can imagine your unique world of this book,u can change small details etc and in movies and series only thing u need to do is watch, everything is done before you
2020-07-16 13:12
Honestly when i read books especially adventure themed books. I can imagine it in like 30 different ways and its almost as much fun as actually reading the book
2020-07-16 13:23
I don't understand reading books that won't help you improve your real life as well.

watching smart movie equals reading kids book. And do you think you read two pages of some stupid book you gonna get smarter? Your mind expands when you read even simplest book though.

you can play video-games if there no killing, murder, nudity etc but better to play real games Computer games have very little mental benefit in the face of the emotional and psychology detriment that they cause
2020-07-16 13:05
Reading is a complete waste of time, learn from the internet dude. I pretty much learn everything I need to from auditing courses.
2020-07-16 11:56
I read the classics to attract smart girls.
2020-07-16 12:50
0/8 girls doen't care about even in 1%
2020-07-16 13:28
None of the girls you know obv.
2020-07-16 14:07
i doesn't fucking mater how smart the girl is, nerds don't get laid cuz girls don't give a shit about your IQ IQ it's not attraction factor
2020-07-16 14:20
sure thats most the girls, but smart girls tend to go out with dudes either smarter than them or equally smart
2020-07-16 14:27
yeah show me models who went for "smart guys" they date chads not nerds
2020-07-16 14:36
majority of models aren't smart girls
2020-07-16 18:09
cuz they don't need to
2020-07-16 22:26
lots of girls at my university wont even speak to you if you have no culture xd
2020-07-16 14:31
0/8 they are attracted to dominance, leading, self-assertiveness, confidence, status, humor and fun, not taking things too seriously = carefree, resourcefulness, unreactiveness = emotional autonomy, passion, feeling at ease in each environment - which basically most of it it's just your status indicator it's the same thing it was in tribe where do we come from
2020-07-16 14:38
damn ur a caveman xd
2020-07-16 14:48
dude it's what it ... where your conscious mind like it or not, the faster you accept it the better I guess society and mainstream culture lies about dating and relationships
2020-07-16 14:54
0/8, but I don´t blame you, since you clearly do not attend university ^^
2020-07-16 14:58
0/8 120 IQ already engineer degree read 200+ books
2020-07-16 15:16
engineering xd Im talking about humanities and not some low level majors that literally everyone studies nowadays xd
2020-07-16 15:32
i read harry potter and witcher and now i'm smarter than you
2020-07-16 12:52
its not about making you smarter, its about learning. The more you read the more you learn and that can be perceived as "being smarter"
2020-07-16 12:59
books give u ideas. but movies give u motivation to do it

no need to read books when you can listen to joe rogan podcast. instamnt 200 iqw
2020-07-16 13:09
0/8 however sometimes ignorance might looks like a bliss
2020-07-16 13:30
Its mainly due to the fact that books deeply go into the issue they're taking on, as far as politics, phillosophy, history and economics go, if you watch a movie you're watching 90% surface and 10% substance, whereas the book is entirely substantial, it explains itself explicitly rather than tacitly...therefore if you go into a piece of content with a goal, you'll come out better satisfied by a book, though movies are easier to get into if you've never read.

I swear, people who read books think they are superior and smarter, well sorry, I guess I'm stupid for not liking to read, for me it's boring, and also they all have fucking glasses, yeah, I'm stupid for not raping my eyesight.
2020-07-16 13:36
Imo only people who read science books can be considered smart But if u dont read books u are definetly not dumb
2020-07-16 13:38
"comprehension" by reading is one of the biggest measures of one's IQ, literally. Every coveted aptitude test around the globe has given much weightage to "reading".

reading books means u have to have knowledge on reading
2020-07-16 13:55
this is the same guy who cannot read 3 paragraphs and asks for tl;dr
2020-07-16 14:03
there are all kinds of intellect. and it's really hard to raise your IQ but if you never perform mental practice as you say you become blunt. you can do mental practice in very different ways but repeating the same task over and over again makes you blunt. books generally train your abstract reasoning skills. but then if you go to a construction site you may look dumb when it comes to practical reasoning. it's all about which kind of intellect you want to train and what sparks your curiosity.
2020-07-16 14:06
No, to be smart means to have awareness on how little you do know, awareness on your flawed existence. Thus incentive to read books, and whatever other methods there are to exercise your mind and learn.
2020-07-16 14:14
I watch Richard and Mortemer
2020-07-16 14:14
I assume it has to do with tradition, books came before movies and pictures (depending on what we mean when we say ''pictures'') and that's why it's ''ranked'' higher.
2020-07-16 14:15
you're right
2020-07-16 14:32
It depends on what kind of books you are reading. But I agree with you, when you are reading some classic literature it doesn't give you nothing practically useful, but somewhy ppl consider it as a sign of high intellect
2020-07-16 14:57
Read the bible
2020-07-16 15:05
you read a book = you read an opinion => you compare this opinion to another opinion => you create your own opinion and you can justify it => you are more unique from other people the only bad thing about books is that i cannot make myself read them
2020-07-16 22:31
i arent read thatz
