Frankie |
Switzerland HansZimmer
La La Land definitely top 1 imo Parasite probably top 2 Life of Pi top 3, one of the most beautiful movie ever (in terms of cinematography) Note: None of them is in my top 3 favorite movies. Which movie do you consider the best of the last decade ?

Yeah. The old movie is nice though but don't expect that much greatness compare to the new ones. MI 3 is great though the second was kinda bad. Ghost PRotocol is great but ROgue Nation and Fallout is on another level. I can't say about the 1st movie.

"badly written" xDD made my day thanks For your top 3, it's good. What's the reason you put Rocketman before Bohemian Rhapsody?

For me it`s Avengers Endgame because of what they did with that franchise, and how it ended up. But best "oscar" movies: Bohemian Rhapsody Joker Interstellar Inception

i already listed hereditary and three billboards. the other 3 are definitely worth mentioning aswell. with ari aster and robert eggers there are now two exciting directors in the psychological horror genre. their films match up to genre classics. good times.

Oh i love you guys, didn't expect to find people with such an exquisite taste for movies on hltv. Ari Aster, Robert Eggers and Denis Villeneuve are the top 3 most promising directors for me.

I have to agree. Ari and Robert are becoming the masters of psychological horror as the guy above stated.( and i absolutely love that) But in general i do think that Dennis is the top 1 atm. He can literally shoot any genre and it will be amazing. Can't wait for Dune :)

i tend to agree about villeneuve, seems he can't do wrong. there are still the coens and lynch around though. cuaron, fincher, nolan, tarantino, ... and more. i also love lanthimos.

Oh yeah all those you mentioned are excellent directors for sure. But they are all pretty acknowledged in the movie world, on the other hand Villeneuve doesn't seem to get much credit for how great all his movies are. ( by general public i mean) And i also like Lanthimos... such a unique director :)
2020-08-12 10:47
I actually have never seen any movie by Ari Aster or Robert Eggers, because I'm not a big fan of horror. But Midsommar and The Lighthouse are on my watch list.

Well they both have just 2 movies ( not counting the short ones which i can also recommend ). I get that horrors are not for everyone ( especially because majority of horrors are crap bcuz of how difficult it is to shoot a good horror movie in general ) But these 2 are definitely on top of the list nowadays. The next Aster movie should be a dark comedy, which is kinda sad because of how great he is in horror but i'm also excited for it because he showed his comedy capabilities in Midsommar. Definitely check their movies out when ur in the mood :)

All of Aster's shorts are on youtube or vimeo, pretty easy to find... But i remember Eggers's being pretty hard to find... don't even remember when i found it in the end... i can try to look it up when i get home from work tho

psychological horror ranking 2010-19 (missing some films for sure): midsommar > hereditary > the vvitch > black swan > the lighthouse > get out > the babadook > suspiria the lighthouse objectively should be higher, just not my cup of tea really (growing in retrospect). get out is fun, but overpraised and too gimmickly.

Oh yea suspiria is amazing. Luca Guadagnino did an amazing job. I didn't really like Black Swan tho... but that's mainly because i struggle with Aronofsky... Don't really like any of his movies.

Everything by Christopher Nolan this decade ( maybe minus Dunkirk. It was cool but not as memorable) Django unchained The Wolf of Wall Street Whiplash Joker Rush The Intouchables Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (just to add the best animated one as well) I'd also love to add The Hateful Eight, The Big Short, and Shutter Island but I'm not sure they deserve to be there.

Nice list, I 100% a agree about Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, probably one of my favorite animated films For me Dunkirk is my favorite film by Nolan and Hans Zimmer should have won the oscar for best original score, but it's just my opinion.
2020-08-12 11:06
Dunkirk was a lot more popular in Western European, NA and former British colonies for obvious reasons. I'm sad you didnt like it as i thought it was really great

Don't get me wrong, it was really good but I came out of the cinema with the feeling that it was an amazing movie but from the other movies made by Nolan I came out like holy shit this is a masterpiece and for Inception and Interstellar I was thinking about the movie for like 3-4 days, while after Dunkirk I didn't. It might come down to the fact that Dunkirk is a historical movie so there couldn't be any huge twist or surprise in it. The more I think about it the more I think that I shouldn't have written that part. The cuts are amazing, the sound was the best a war movie ever had, music was brilliant and I loved how he built the story up. Well, now that I wrote down all of this, the only thing that kept me unsure was that it wasn't the typical Nolan-like movie with deep thoughts.

citizen kane shows what the simple-minded mantra of the american dream really is: a cold hearted bitch. thats why the us and all who made capitalism their goddess have fat and unhappy people. the right is corrupt to the bone and sells pipe dreams for the stupid. brazil is about the individual and the system. how it is near impossible to change or break it. there are no evil masterminds behind it all, everybody is part of the mess, and everybody has to do his part for a better world. in other words: dont be a rasicst, chauvinistic, homophobic asshole in search of scapegoats. if you see these eternal messages as right-wing, you are mentally challenged.
