2020-08-09 14:04
Riighhtt.... Heart diseases, blood clots, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes are all non-factors when talking about BMI. All these things shouldn't even be in the same conversation as BMI, right? Don't talk out of your ass man. I'll actually agree in a sense though, because rare outlier people DO have a too high BMI, but they're also muscular as fuck. So, they don't count.
2020-08-09 14:11
"rare outlier people" as in literally anyone with a larger frame or lifts weights for 6 months?
2020-08-09 14:51
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahaha^infinite. Clearly you've never been. Also to add to that : I don't think you realize how few these people are. I mean, not 6 months, obviously. In 6 months you're not getting a out-of-wack BMI unless you're eating disgusting amounts of food (aka just getting fat.).
2020-08-09 15:45
You can gain up to 8kg in the first 6 months of training, most of which will be water weight which is another factor bmi doesn't account for. It doesn't even take body fat% into consideration for that matter which is very misleading at times.
2020-08-09 18:15
if you think you can outlift the BMI scale in 6 months you're fucking retarded
2020-08-09 18:01
Anyone with above average genetics can gain up to 8 kg in their first 6 months and up to 12 kg in their first year of training, but yeah that's perfectly okay.
2020-08-09 18:17
8 kg of what?
2020-08-09 19:02
as I stated in #110, you cant just gain pure muscle so you'll gain water weight and possibly fat in the process.
2020-08-09 19:33
most of it water weight? ^^, water weight comes and goes daily it's not like you'll hold 4 kg of water weight in lifting the 1st 6 months
2020-08-09 19:48
You're right, not most of it will be water but you see what I mean. What I'm talking about here is the water held by muscle glycogen, for reference every gram of glycogen holds 3-4 grams of water and your muscles have some 400g of glycogen, could be more or less dependng on how much you weigh.

Happy to say 20.9. Always struggled with my BMI and I've been around 17-18 for most of my life, which I've finally managed to change. I know BMI obviously doesn't tell the whole story, but I'm pretty happy nevertheless.
2020-08-09 14:03
Wow we are twins man. I have the same BMI (posted above). I have always been skinny, thats been a hard struggle because of my health issues. Since last november I have been working out, +7kg so far, 64kg now. Have to be more consistent now, it has been very hard after gyms re-opened. Good luck my Finland brother (im from Eesti ;))
2020-08-09 19:51
Nice! Glad to hear you are making progress too. I hope you can keep it up! I was 68kg this time last year and it was around December-ish that I decided I wanted to make a change. I started doing some basic workouts and making sure I ate a *lot* of food and now I'm 79kg, which I'm pretty pleased with for my height (I'm about 193). I don't look "strong", but for the first time since pretty much ever my body doesn't look like a twig that could be blown away by a strong wind, and that's enough reason for me to be happy.
2020-08-09 20:21
Nice! My height is 175 so my goal is to get on 65kg to the end of summer.

Why would i drop to 5-6% if i don't compete in shows? Thats just torture for no reason. Will admit 12% isn't shredded, but considering my diet wasnt on point and gyms fucking me in the ass here in aus, 12 isn't so bad. Really i should have just stopped my cycle, had a feeling there was going to be a second wave of china19. I just lowerd the dose and rode it out.

bmi is bullshit since it doesnt take your bodyfat% into consideration
2020-08-09 14:50
Well, it doesn't care how much muscle you have which is the point because it is just saying if you are overweight or underweight. It isn't bullshit, Having too much muscle is unhealthy for your heart too in an overbearing sense.

There are a lots of other factors that are more harmful to your health than being muscular...
2020-08-09 18:20
Yep, you are correct. The biggest three in my opinion are; a healthy balanced diet, weight, and exercise. Most things can be put into those categories. Some examples that don't are like polluted air, and mental things.

i agree. And one thing that a lot of people dont care/know about is genetics. Someone smokes for his entire life and lives 80+ years, someone dies at a young age because of some disease.

BMI is totally wrong and makes people have weight complex issues. You can be called "over weight" and still look perfectly fit and healthy.BMI, IMO, should be removed.

Not really necessary, women carry more fat but less muscle, so they kind of cancel each other out. The main exception is for men and women who carry a very large amount of muscle.
2020-08-10 13:04
tbf I'm not an expert, but I do know that women with similar morphologies to men will have a higher BMI because we have the added weight of tits xD But yeah maybe not too stark a difference
