Are you a patriot?
Dosia |

Good morning gentlemen and ladies of HLTV. Are you a patriot, do you support your country and your people? Or are you ashamed of your country's past? No right or wrong answers! I for one love my country and people

I think Germany is not much different from Belgium so let me defend our Turks for a moment. Turks are usually people who have jobs in Belgium, they work hard and a lot of them hate moroccans as much as natives. In fact, I buy my bread every morning from a Turkish bakery. Moroccans and other arabs are the real pest that do nothing and commit crime.

Not false! Turks are very nice most of the time!
2020-08-27 14:11
I dont want to critizise turks or any group of people in general. But I expect them to live by the few rules we have in this country. As I am working for the government I have some insights in to what kind of underground societies have evolved here and how bad it is. Generally Turks are okay if they are not suuuper religious. With the rest I agree aswell

Everyone is getting called a racist for saying that they dislike something someone does. Most of it origins in religion tho and I do believe that most of their beliefs are outdated, but if I want to say I dont like it that a woman in Saudi is not allowed to look up when going through the streets, because it could attract men. So when I say I want everyone to live on their behalfs and dont bother me, that is borderline ok. But as soon I say that this does not belong to germany (because germany has its origin in saxons, francos and germans) I am a racist and I dont support this kind of view of calling someone a racist.

because the country one is born in had an affect in forming one into the person they are today, being proud of ones country can be seen as an extension of being proud of oneself.

im with you for the "country has an affect" part, but the relation to beeing proud of your country as an extension of yourself is bs. its about the things you do with your possibilities, its not the work of your country that you are who you are, you just can more or less benefit of its system, education and so on.

I think you have to make the distinction between loving your culture, as i guess for us two what being 'British' means, without being proud of your country per se, or your past (and certainly not our present).

being proud of your nation’s past is not a necessity for being a nationalist, only that your country is the best in the world (present tense). that could be because of the rich history, but requiring pride in colonialism as a prerequisite for patriotism makes the word redundant; theres basically no one who is proud of colonialism.

No, sorry. Even if that's 90% of your personality, that's still not a thing that you chose at any point. The fact that it did, or it could doesn't change anything in regards to choices here.

I don't know to be honest. I never though about it. I always thought the pride was the answer for the discrimination. Similar to how people were more patriotic in the past when their culture, language rights actually faced some oppression from the state in many countries. Now it's all outdated. You have the Internet, you can speak any damn dead language that you want, all days long with few others that like you that exist out there.

I mean sure you can do many things. It's just that if you are like that, I guess you personally might be kinda lacking elsewhere. Why are you so desperate to find a source of pride? Is it because your self esteem is generally low otherwise?

That's a sad way to view life. What about all of your thousands of ancestors that lived before you, who shaped the way your country and culture is today. It's not as simple as "hurrr u were borned heere so its just lottery" your ancestors may have lived in a 100mile^2 radius for the last 1000 years. Take some pride in the achievments that your extended family have acheived - they only did this ultimately so you could live today. (Procreation is the one true biological meaning of life) BUT you are free to think what you want so I respect your opinion regardless.

why do people always compare shit from x years ago when they have absolutely nothing in common? its not like the germans are all nazis and bad people because of hitler. what has a kid which is born in ae. 2003 to do with the history? absolutely not his fault nor his archievement. its just a conservative mindset. what if your extended family lived in about 10 other countries in the last 300 years? are you proud to be a 5% italian? (as example). its a very different thing if you respect the history and culture of your country, or if youre a braindead patriot.
2020-08-27 10:49

Because you have a shared history, culture and genetics with these people. Just think of your direct family tree. You parents survived their entire life just to have you, and their parents did the same and so did their parents. ALL FOR YOU TO EXIST! That's all that their lives amounted to - you being here right now, denouncing your country on www.hltv.org. It is only through modern times, globalisation and similar that nationalities are being wiped out. If someone wants to be proud of being 5% Italian then let them. I am not going to spend a long time debating with you because you are probably never going to change your mind (which is okay) Just think of all of the trials and tribulations your family went through so you could exist right now.

look, i never said i do not appreciate what my family did to give me all the possibilities and quality of life i do have. but that has nothing to to with a flag, with a name of some place on earth. thats my whole point. we have 26 different cantones in our little country, and you know our country is little af. there are many things different, even the language and in every cantone theres a own dialect. i just have a problem with the fact that the society evaluate humans by their nationality. you may not have a problem because your from uk and can go and do pretty much whereever you want to. idk, thats my point of view. maybe you understand me, may not. have a good day m8

After years of studying nationalism I came to conclusion that most educated patriots and nationalists want national-separation as extension of natural selection - country with best rules and gene pool will dominate, at least in theory, leading to better future for next generations. IMO it's kidna retarded but at least it's some kind of explanation, better than "reee you have to be proud of your country because it's your country"
2020-08-27 12:54

I sure am proud of our history but saying Im a patriot is a little bit too far. I hate the people that live here today and vote for the idiots and thieves that run our country. We really should became more eu orientated and not "russia is our bff" that many people still think is true. Also we should be more tolerant to different ethnics and cultures because Czechia is one of the most racist countries in Europe and I cant stand that. There is literally like 15 immigrants from the middle east in the whole country and people behave like we are under occupation :D
