Neither Bubzkji or es3tag are benched. Astralis can switch them out whenever they want and play with certain rosters for certain maps/matches.

Apparently they need to confirm the roster 8 hours before the game.

why shouldnt it be allowed?

it gives a huge advantage to teams with more money to spend. If you have a player do dogshit map 1 you can just sub them out for someone else the rest of the series. whereas if you didn't have the budget to have more than 5 players, you would just have to deal with the bad performer.

so what? its allowed in every other team sport to swap players
2020-09-05 22:20

not in other esports.

cuz no roster ever thought they need a 6th or 7th players
2020-09-05 22:22
so that's how it works in football xd

that's different because that sport not only has a larger pool of skilled players, it also has larger sponsors, more viewers, more teams, and overall a larger audience. Unless cs starts to get to that size it would be unfair to less fortunate esport organizations, or even make organizations not want to invest in cs as to be a top tier team they would have to spend far more money on players, and be less profitable.

They are allowed to do that in BLAST, not sure about ESL.

Why would they do that
2020-09-05 22:03

Dunno, they are Astralis.
2020-09-05 22:05
I think so, they just haven't done it yet. It would also complicate things a bit. Imagine Bubzkji or es3tag sitting on standby and watching the match and all of a sudden zonic says "Okay you're up next", would be pretty complicated and confusing imo.

But what if Bubzkji is warming up all the time and ready to play train... If some players are better and more confident on different maps or someone isnt feeling it today

They could do that, but it would still be confusing. The team would also not have that much time to prepare themselves as the roster would depend on the map veto, which takes place right before the game starts. It's a lot easier to just say which players are playing and then those players could prepare while knowing 100% that they'll be playing.
2020-09-05 22:11
They would need to change the rules then. In official matches u list 5 players that will play. You are allowed to bring in a new player in case one listed player cant finish the match for a valid reason. They would then need to officially show 6 players on the match page and let the opponent have a chance to prepare for the game as they predict to what players will play what maps.

Not if they prepare for it beforehand, I don't think it would be any different from football, although maybe a bit confusing here in the beginning where it's all relatively new and experimental.
2020-09-05 22:09
altough sonic said when gla1ve got back now that he will step in insted of es3tag and they would use bubz. And that they will in future events play the players that is looking good and is on top, and if there is someone that need a break they will let that player sit out an event too. But yes, es3 was benched when gla1ve came back but it seem like they use es3 insted now. mby bubz got sick or couldnt play

I was actually surprised Gla1ve took over for es3tag, because es3tag is actually the highest rated player on Astralis right now

I think it was strategical. Like Magisk stepping back from IGL and taking the fragging role from es3, and es3 gets the chance to watch and learn more, and maybe he take that spot or another riflers spot in next event.
2020-09-05 22:10
Maybe they switched to es3tag because they lost. This hole situation is confusing to me lol. What if Astralis keeps winning with es3tag and they just simply won every match. Will they change back to bub still or is he going to just sit on bench? This Astralis could actually dominate soon
2020-09-05 22:11
bubzkji got vacced, not allowed to play tournaments anymore

They're rotating players every series, I assume it is based on the maps they are expecting to play.

astralis is using their bench like normal sports teams, subbing in players whenever they feel like it
