new PC or PS5
Europe HLTVisNotReal
hi HLTV mens)) first of all, no, this is not a thread about whats better, a console or a gaming PC, because in terms of pure power a gaming PC will always be much more powerful :) here is the deal: I had the PS, PS2 and PS3. then I bought a mid/high end gaming PC 6 years ago. never had a console after that cuz its so much better for gaming. but now my PC is making trouble (probably motherboard) and I am not sure if I will get a new PC or a PS5. My gaming days are pretty much over, I play video games maybe 1-2 hours per week at best! I use my PC nowadays for watching youtube, twich, browsing, and very little gaming. So if PS5 will have a decent web browser, and keyboard/mouse support and apps for twitch, youtube, amazon video, netflix and so on... I think its a pretty good deal since a gaming PC is at least 1200 Euros and the PS5 is 500. So I think about buying a PS5 and use it like a PC (if its possible). what do you think? PS5 or new PC? also, are people here that use a console for web browsing, twitch, youtube, etc.?? is this a pain in the ass or acceptable? thanks for your input

i think if i didnt have my pc built up i would go for the ps5 just because u can get 120hz out of it (the reason i didnt liked to play on the ones out so far) and games are far more optimized for consoles

i say get a pc since its more versatile since its not just restricted to gaming u can watch videos/movies edit stuff and do a lot more, but if you are on a tight budget and dont need to do anything more than playing games and watching netflix or youtube just get a ps5

2020-09-22 22:24
PS5 hardware isn't widely drastically better then even an average PC, but their new weapon to combat PC performance relative to PS5 is the data management system and extremely fast storage drive. Casual gaming if you own a good TV, I would go for PS5. In general, if you use your PC for anything else then gaming and browsing the web, you should own a PC. A laptop, tablet or even some of the bigger/more adapt phones can also widely substitute for having a PC. Depends on your needs a lot, but PS5 for 400-500€ for the price is a good deal considering it'll run games well and is most likely really comfortable for media and browsing, especially if you incorporate a mouse and keyboard with it.

Id wait a couple of years and get a ps5 as a multi media machine, theyll be selling for like £250 by then. I tend to use my pc to play esports titles and then my ps4 to play anything else, mainly single players because its more chill playing with the controller and big tv
2020-09-22 12:45
Just get a PC while you may not need it to game now, you don't know if you will get back into it in the future. Also allows for other possibilities should you start to need a PC for doing more advance shit other than basic browsing. On the note of console browsers they are generally shit since they don't support mouse and keyboard but you have apps for most your streaming service e.g. netflix, amazon, twitch, youtube, ect.
2020-09-22 12:46
thanks. the information that web browsing is shit on consoles due to shit console browsers is crucial to me. I thought its just like on a PC

2020-09-23 10:28
neither? Don't you already have decent pc? Isn't PS5 gonna be just a temporary fad? PC will last as long as you are willing to spin on it. PS5 have to buy all the games all over, while on PC keep building the steam library.
2020-09-22 14:13
steam is a good point. I would have to "give up" my steam library which has roughly 80 games in it. but my current PC is dying. one hard drive is not detected anymore and some other shit stopped working properly (usb slots, disc drive wont open) so I fear that the motherboard has troubles.

Get both. if the only thing holding you into pc is browsing, a $150-200 pc should be more than enough.
2020-09-22 14:25
pc ofc. Does not matter how much do you play, even if you play 2 hourse per week you should want best possible gaming experience, pc is more versatile and so on. ps is good for exclusive games and should be complement to pc, not replacement.

A PC is the much better choice. A PS5 comes at "just" 499 but PS online costs extra money (XD) games are 60 or 70€ You have no power over upgrades and cant open the shit for repairs Sony probably wraps shitty HDDs etc in plastic and sells them at a premium as "upgrades" Forget console

1. no argument 2. 400 actually with a digital version which basically works like steam. 3. pc games are 60€ at release, too 4. you'll be able to use it for +4 years at least without upgrades, because games are optimised for that gen. also ps5 comes with hardware that would cost like +1k€ for a pc. 4. shitty hdd? the ps5 has the fastest ssd available better than any pc user.

The arguments followed you retard. PC games can easily be pirated. PS5 is based on Zen2 and its safe to say that at 400 price point its not a 3600 or higher. But you can build a 3600x system brandnew with 1tb ssd for ~500. Add a used 1070 for 150 and you have a system thats already quite superior to the PS5 with a solid CPU+Ram as base that can be upgraded with a new GPU to stay relevant even in 5 years from now. The PS5 cannot match that. On PS5 you are also restricted to whatever BS sony throws at you with their OS, online fees, etc etc. Windows gives you freedom entirely over what you use, have installed etc. Doing office work or internet research on a PS5 would be a nightmare. A console always only wins in convenience. Nice try tho botlof.

you did and i said that you are completely wrong. this is the equivalent CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 3700X GPU - NVIDIA RTX 2080 SSD - there is nothing on the market that is comparable. the ssd is simply way faster than anything available for the consumer. now build that for 700

point on the SSD literally doesn't matter, ltt did an ssd comparison video where there were identical pcs with different speed ssds in them, quite a large margine as well. Everyone chose different ones as being the fastest, but the most chosen one was the slowest sata ssd. All the hardware in the console will be outdated and slow by the time it comes out.

The build for the PS5 is already quickly aging before release. The 30 series has already out paced the 20 series by a jump we haven't seen in over a decade when looking at generation by generation performance per dollar. Zen3 is around the corner too. PS5 looks great when compared to what is now considered last gens first release, but by the time the PS5 has had it's second wave of sales there'll already be talks of the ti variants of the 30 series. PS5 is more convenient and better for your wallet if we're talking about a casual approach to gaming and web browsing, not much more. To be fair though, it looks like OP might want to get a PS5 based on his post.

i don't agree that a 2080 will be outdated in few years. and yes, op is not doing much more than browsing and gaming sometimes. in this case he should choose a 400€ ps over a 1500€ gaming rig.
2020-09-22 17:21
#143
 |
Australia Ohnorepo
...I didn't say it was going to be outdated lol. Might have mis-read out paced. Meaning it won't be as fast as cheaper, newer variants of the 30 series we're seeing. The only downside I can see for OP picking up a PS is the fact he said he barely ever plays a game these days. An office PC for a integrated graphics laptop might be better these days. Newest gen of laptops with AMD integrated are managed Doom on high with 40ish FPS. Solid for an hour of casual gaming these days.

it's so cheap that it doesn't have to get any cheaper. even the gpu is worth more than the ps5 itself. he gets a small box for 400€ which he can use for gaming and browsing being the main tasks he is going to do.

good point, but 1. I am not 100% sure if its the motherboard 2. I am lazy and I dont wanna deconstruct and rebuild the whole PC just to find our that its something else. its hard to detect the faulty component when you dont have spare parts to try it out

Yeah you need to buy PlayStation Plus subscription to play online and access friends and stuff. For what you want, PC is just an easier experience for things like browsing anyway. The PlayStation browser is kinda frustrating imo.

if your gaming days are over, be smart and buy a laptop.. and speaking of pc.. i upgraded mine a month ago also 6yo, gg motherboard... paid ~200 euros for cpu, ~100 for 16gb ram and ~70 for motherboard
2020-09-22 15:05
New generation intel cpu (tiger lake) are nice at running games with about double the performance ! "Good news for Intel: Xe graphics are the real deal. Overwatch was playable at 1080p on Ultra (averaging 89fps)." theverge.com/21440302/intel-tiger-lake-h..

if you don't game that much then you should not spend too much money on game consoles. you can get a xbox series s for $299 and a dirt cheap game pass to play shit ton of games both on your xbox and pc. there's absolutely no reason to spend more money on ps5 if you don't care about ps exclusives anyways.

ps5 digital is 400$, 100 more only but its more than 2 times the teraflops. also all games of xbox will be on pc anyway, theres no reason to buy it.

tflops is not a scale for performance. low tflops can grant high performance depending on the architecture and design. op is not planning on using their pc for gaming so all xbox games being on pc is not a reason to not buy the console for them.

xbox and ps5 uses the same gpu architecture from AMD so its safe to compare by teraflops.

not really. just because they both use same family chips doesn't mean they use the same chip. both sony and microsoft highly customizes the chips to run better on specific occasions prioritizing different aspects.

its hard to surf hltv on ps5 and write bait comments, so pc

PC will always have more variety and will provide you with the ability to jump back into gaming if you ever want to. PS5 will be lighter on your wallet. That is the simplest summary for each choice. People bringing up exclusives forget many are timed, and the ease at which emulators are popping up. If you want to save money grab a PS5. For everything else grab a PC.
2020-09-22 17:14
PS5 :D

Why would you buy a gaming pc if you are gonna watch youtube just buy a cheap one
2020-09-22 22:22
buy a 500 euro pc jesus that will be good enough to 'causally game' whatever u mean by that, and do whatever else u want
2020-09-22 23:11
Why would you ask HLTV user their opinion like you don’t already know what they’re gonna say? Dude CSGO is a PC game, most users on this site are PC gamers and probably anti console. You know they’re all gonna say PC, so why even bother asking? With that said, PC obviously. Fuck those DRM machines.
2020-09-23 00:03
assuming youre writing in this forum... you still wanna play cs (or some other pc only games) then you should def go for the pc since you can only play them there. ps exclusives you can also play on pc via playstation now if i know correctly. if you dont care about any exclusives whether its pc or ps, and you mainly wanna use entertainment platforms like you have written there, go for some mid range gaming pc because the ps (at least ps3 and ps4) were both horrible to navigate especially for youtube and twitch. and if you decide to take a ps... take the digital edition cause the one with the disc reader is just overpriced. is xbox not an option for you? because their digital version is 100 bucks cheaper than sonys digital edition and since you dont really care about gaming that much anyway it might be an intersting option as well? edit: also be aware you have to pay to play online on both xbox and ps
2020-09-23 00:13
thx. I wasnt aware of the tact that you have to pay to play online on consoles. that sucks hard. btw I will try to fix my current PC and maybe get a new GPU for it.
2020-09-23 10:28
pc because you cant play cs on ps5
2020-09-23 00:29
I use twitch on ps4, its fine but I cant have adblocker which is annoying, I wouldnt buy ps5 yet but wait till price drops, just get ps4 for discount
2020-09-23 10:30
You wanna play singpleplayer games exclusive on ps5? Get ps5 You wanna play multiplayer games like CS:GO, LoL, Dota and single player games not exclusive on ps5? Get a PC.
2020-09-23 10:31
PC will give you a lot more use with general things than a gaming console, also you could get a cheaper one, you don't need to spend that much on it
2020-09-23 10:41
nintendo switch
2020-09-23 10:41
if u dream of becoming a pro player like any little kid then ur choice is pc. if u dont plan to do anything except gaming on pc then u dont need to buy pc, everything is simple.
2020-09-23 11:06
Wait for PS10 obviously.
