3080 card
 |
Germany Kosta_The_Bartender
Does it make sense for me to buy 3080 ? I already own 2070 super and play on 1440p but more fps is always better, right ? I was thinking about 3090 until I saw the price :D not worth it
2020-09-26 14:15
Topics are hidden when running Sport mode.
I personally don't see why you would, but if it makes you happy then why not?
2020-09-26 14:16
I was thinking about buying a 4k TV in the future and I want to play some games there as well, for 4k this card is a beast, I will think about it.
2020-09-26 14:19
then buy new card in the future when it all settles
2020-09-26 14:29
I won't be able to sell my 2070 super then for that much money as right now, it still has some resell value
2020-09-26 14:35
that is true... it kinda all depends what "future" means and how you stand with money... tbh no wrong moves on this one

before you will be able to even buy a 3080, your ''resell value'' will drop even more because amd still is yet to reveal their 6000 lineup. sure you could sell it now, and not game for few weeks if the resell value is so important.
2020-09-26 15:23
Nah, don't go for 4K and is it'll be near impossible to sustain long term and even now. Badly optizmized games are aplenty because a lof of console ports are trash. An RTX 3080 has issues running games like AC Odyssey above 60 FPS at 4K and it's not the only one. RDR2 also comes to mind but there are more. 1440p is what you should be aiming for right now. DLSS 2.0 will only be available to a handful of games.
2020-09-26 14:48
No. Buy AMD equivalent or better 20 series imo.
2020-09-26 14:17
AMD doesn't even have an equivalent lmao.
2020-09-26 14:37
They will announce it in a month.
2020-09-26 14:44
probably wont come close to nvidia cards performance tho
2020-09-26 15:45
It will probably be closer than you think, nvidia's silicon has worse manufacturing than amd's silicon has. But AMD will be as expensive if not more than what Nvidia has

AMD always sells cheaper than nvidia lol otherwise who'd buy their products
2020-09-26 17:16
When it comes out.
2020-09-26 14:45
and it won't come close to the nvidia counterpart. source: me, a gigantic AMD fan
2020-09-26 15:06
Nvidia are using Samsung to manufacture their GPU dies, whereas AMD are using TSMC which have much better performing silicon. Samsung are a lot cheaper and the supply is easier to get whereas TSMC was having a bidding war for available production next year. There is hope for AMD to actually produce a high tier capable card, but I think it will be more expensive than the 3080 while not really being better

buy me one too men)))
2020-09-26 14:52
It's still worth it at 1080p and takes advantage of if. Exc eptions are Far Cry New Dawn and one or two irrelevant titles. Even though you're CPU bound i9n some games, you'll still see a 20 FDPS boost at the very least.

I was thinking about buying the same card once I have enough money for it since my GTX 750 Ti is getting a bit too old((
2020-09-26 14:21
i think it is a time for an upgrade

You could always sell your 2070S it has some resell value.
2020-09-26 14:21
Yeah I was thinking about that
2020-09-26 14:27
no i have a 2070 super and its gonna last till 2025 be patient
2020-09-26 14:22
It will last long but 3080 is just too good to pass it
2020-09-26 14:28
And in a year there will be new card that's even better than 3080. :D
2020-09-26 14:40
Not in a year, maybe in 2 years but I think most likely in 3 years.
2020-09-26 14:49
They plan to replace Ampere by Hopper in 2021 already. I think November/December 2021 or January/February 2022.
2020-09-26 15:12
Hopper ? First time hearing this, interesting
2020-09-26 15:31
According to AMD's roadmap they plant to release RDNA 3 in the end of 2021, Nvidia will have to answer with something. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hopper_(microarchi.. Has been confirmed month ago by Colette Kress (VP/CFO).
2020-09-26 15:45
Maybe wait for the 3080 with more VRAM
2020-09-26 14:23
What do you mean ?
2020-09-26 14:28
20GB instead of 10GB
2020-09-26 14:33
Are they confirmed to come out soon or what ?
2020-09-26 14:34
Sometime next year according to leaks from one manufacturer. Your GPU should be fine for minimum 1-2 years. So I would say either for the 20GB or even a Super Version if you're seriously interested in 4k gaming or otherwise I would even wait for the 2022 generation. Coming from someone that still owns a MSI GTX970 lul
2020-09-26 15:39
Not needed for 1440p. More than 10gb would be for future proofing with 4k+ monitor.
2020-09-26 14:52
There is no real need to upgrade at all then. Earlier he stated that he's interested in 4K Gaming that's why I suggested him too wait for the 20GB Version.
2020-09-26 15:33
yes, give me your 2070s bcz, you cant sell it more than 300$ after rtx 3060 comes out
2020-09-26 14:23
You want it for 50 euro ?
2020-09-26 14:28
no, just free mens))))))))) (im jokin mens i dont have a desktop pc, so i cant do it with it btw. i have a budget gaming laptop)
2020-09-26 14:50
3080 is around 70-80% faster than 2070 super which I currently have aswell so its definitely worth to buy it and sell your old gpu. Theres no point to even consider 3090 since its double the price of the 3080 and only 11% faster than 3080.
2020-09-26 14:23
Yeah 70-80 is insane
2020-09-26 14:29
nope
2020-09-26 14:24
If you have money... it is like 1.5x better right?
2020-09-26 14:30
it's 70-80% faster

If you can afford it without a problem... then why not?
2020-09-26 14:32
I can afford it but I am very careful with my money but I think it will be worth it
2020-09-26 14:36
If you don't know if you need it, then you for sure don't need it.
2020-09-26 14:35
Well I'm playing a lot of games that are very demanding on 1440p

i got one already. its beautiful. just go for it. you can rock 4K with pretty much any settings, full rtx, dlss 2.0 and so on. this card will be good for easily 5 years to come. no game will beat it!
2020-09-26 14:47
True that
2020-09-26 14:48
How many of the games you notice fps drops with? How many of those games have fast paced combat that requires good performance? I mean there is no rush and the 3080 is hard to come by anyway.
2020-09-26 14:47
Yeah I will just wait and see if it's really worth it
2020-09-26 14:48
I think it makes sense mostly for 2k and 4k resolutions, but I didn't dig into this too much, and theoretically you should also gain advantage from 3080 with your res.
2020-09-26 14:38
Ask yourself if you really need it, if you truly need it, go for it. I'm gonna get one but that's only because I have loads of money.

I'd wait for AMD's RDNA 2
2020-09-26 14:40
no and besides a lot of cards have crashing issues
2020-09-26 14:48
Id wait untill AMD releases their nextgen GPUs which will probably force nVidia to lower their prices.
2020-09-26 14:52
Doubt it, nvidia has features like dlss and ray tracing, no real reason to buy amd and they also have bad drivers. Yes I know that nvidia is struggling with drivers right now as well but amd has this problem over 6 months already.
2020-09-26 14:54
The launch of AMDs preverious gen was actually met with a slight price drop on 2xxx series, even though the 5700xt card is shit
2020-09-26 15:01
I will wait and see then
2020-09-26 15:03
Heard the news yet? Always a good plan to wait before you buy high end gpus :DD
2020-09-27 15:30
No I didn’t hear anything what happened?
2020-09-27 15:55
twitter.com/HardwareUnboxed/status/13096.. I too had my share of problems when I bought my first 2080 not long after the official release. Never again.
2020-09-27 16:01
Ah this yes I know that already, always happens on launch. I already decided to wait, I will buy 4000 version in few years
2020-09-27 16:02
Not worth it imo. - 1440p already really good whereas 4k tv expensive af and probably only 60Hz. - 2070 super will be able to play pretty much everything until 2022 at 1440p. - 3080 right now hard to get and there's a known issue that it crashes (something to do with POSCAPs being used) . - No discounts for 3080 yet. Even if you're rich. At least wait until the crashing issue is resolved and reviews come out for 3rd party 3080s.
2020-09-26 14:59
I will wait and see. maybe I will just skip it all together and wait 2-3 years for new cards
2020-09-26 15:04
You don't need 3080 for 1440p gaming. These new 3000 cards get up to like 50-100% performance increase on 4k. Also. Fps is better for comp games, but I'd rather have ultra graphics and higher resolution in story games, rather than fps. I recommend upgrading when the 4000 series comes out.
2020-09-26 15:17
Wait Next Year For Change.
2020-09-26 15:29
I have a water cooled 2070 super. Fancy Heatkiller waterblock and everything. THe fact I bought this card a year ago and they've released a 2080TI killer for 799 is kind of annoying. But at the end of the day I'm happy with the performance of my computer. For me there is no reason to upgrade and the card itself is kind of hamstrung for 4k gaming by the 8gb of RAM limit. I would say that if you really want to upgrade wait for the rumored 16gb models. For 4k gaming especially with next-gen consoles that have that much RAM in them it will be MUCH more future proof. Me I'm going to wait for the 4080 unless AMD releases an 80CU monster that beats the 3080 for 500 bucks.

You could but it wouldn't be worth it for three performance imo. I own a 1070 and even though the new card breasts mine 2x, it wouldn't make much sense for me to get it to play cs, minecraft, tetris and some new titles
2020-09-26 16:06
There has been some problems (like CTD) with the aftermarket third party cards so you should at least wait a bit before they fix those
2020-09-26 16:16
3090 is the new 1080 better invest it STONKKKK!!!!
2020-09-26 16:21
6900xt 16gb comes out oct 28 for US $499
2020-09-26 16:22
3080 is 75% faster than 2070 super so just get it and sell ur old one
2020-09-26 16:26
No. I'm keeping my gtx 970. It's more than enough for next gen
2020-09-26 17:14
have 2070 super myself, but i dont play CSGO and for only that game, its stupid buying a new one. but with the games coming, and games like read dead redemption 2, a 3080 its worth it, no doubt about it! im gonna buy one myself, but for fps in CSGO for example, just upgrade your CPU instead, you already have a great GPU
2020-09-26 17:15
Is that even a question ? Ofc it makes sense to change it. Just sell your current gpu and add a bit to get even better product. 30xx is the future But don't buy it until they fix current problems with it. You better wait till 2021. Maybe there will be better amd gpus aswell

don't upgrade if you only play csgo
2020-09-27 15:34
You can play anything you want with your current card anyways, is this much money worth a view more fps? at this point i would rather buy a ps5 for the exclusive titles or just keep the money

why you have a 2070 to play cs in the first place? also you will get 0 more fps with that upgrade. if you play other games that are based on gpu, sure go for an upgrade but 3080 isnt worth it, look all the bad reviews on the internet.
