I need some new bands like Opeth. Heavy and having a lot of acoustic, clean and calm parts. A lot of dynamics in the songs and different moods, but it also needs heavy metal parts. I tried porcupine tree and i enjoy some of it but they can barely be counted as metal. Anyone knows any good band similar to Opeth in that way?

Love BMD but I think The Fall of Hearts would be a better Katatonia album for what he's looking for, some excellent picks there too

Gojira, Lamb of God.. not as heavy, but good.. There's also Meshuggah
2020-09-28 23:59
meshuggah is not like opeth at all, but they are very good
2020-09-29 00:38
i know, but people hardly take the time to appreciate meshuggah behind the screams and hectic arranges.. just thought i should mention it

I dont want to disappoint you, but you are looking for the holy grail people try to find for 20 years. Only Opeth is like Opeth.

Dream Theater 👍

i dont like metal but black sabbath, iron maiden and early metallica are nice.

Be'lakor from Australia. Kinda proggy death metal with a lot of acoustics and stuff. Suggest Stones Reach or Of Breath and Bone as albums to get into.

Graveyard is nice

Opeth is a genre

Gojira is not really like Opeth, but a wonderful band nevertheless and also progressive, so i guess it's kinda similar :D

The first Ulver record (Bergtatt) The last few Novembre records (Materia + The Blue + Ursa) Katatonia's Dead End Kings + The Fall of Hearts - and Mikael loves Katatonia anyway so you might like the rest of their catalogue too. He actually does the vocals on Brave Murder Day 'cause Jonas (Katatonia vocalist) blew his voice out on the album before If you're into black metal, the last two Gris albums could also do the trick for you (Il était une forêt + À l'âme enflammée, l'âme constellée)

soen (has opeth's former drumer) haken porcupine tree & steven wilson solo stuff (not metal but i think you'll like it if you like opeth)

I don't think any band sounds similar to Opeth, their music is so diverse that it's hard to define. Here are some cool Progressive/Death Metal bands: Porcupine Tree Gojira Carcass Death Dream Theater Haken
