21 years old living with parents
Sweden m4st4m4st3r4wp
Im almost 21 and still living with parents. I really want to move but i cant. Im failing my studies way too hard so i cant take a student loan. Im trying to find a job and quit studying but im not getting any job right now. It seems impossible to get a job during corona pandemic. Everyone is applying for even the shittiest job so me who is inexperienced and young cant get anything. Wtf should i do...

ive been through this, lone woman can be the most pathetic human beings and it is unfortunate when your mom start acting weird around you. Initially I tried to be the nice person but mommys boyfriend was confident that he had a right to opinate on my life, then everytime I tried to scalate things he acted complacent making me feel like a kid. Today i live with my father but mothers 50 shades of grey already over, hope dad brings some step sister eventually, 23yo Btw

What? Women go for older men. It’s completely natural to have close to 0% chance with women your age. Though saying that, I’ve been in long-term relationships with older and younger women than me, so it’s not out of the question ofc, but mostly it’s the younger generations you can dazzle, and believe me, it is what you want too.

Study more?
2020-09-29 15:21
Im trying but i have 0 motivation and i dont enjoy what im studying and the studies are hard.
2020-09-29 15:22
If you don't like it can't you switch college? Here in Serbia you can switch colleges can't you do that there too?
2020-09-29 15:23
i could switch to something similar but thats not what i want. i have to wait 1 year to study something else.

2020-09-29 15:26
Maybe a distance learning course/ only study program would be something for you. But all in all I would not stress myself. You are only 21 years young and you have to work till 70 XD. So take you time with your career choice. If you have an alternative idea, then try to use the time wisley and see whether the study program is something for you. you will find your track
2020-09-29 16:18
What about exchange studies? You can prob. get subsidies for that, also possibly if you start in a new program abroad. Would solve both problems at once.

Moving out should be motivation? Get your grades together and go study somewhere where you can live on campus

Yeah well life's a struggle and sometimes you have to take some short time pain for long time gain. Imo 21 is nothing when it comes to age, so focus on your studies or you'll regret it later. If you already started "högskola" and hate what you are studying dont be afraid to change program, you have whole life ahead. Gl

Nothing wrong in living with your parents until you are 25, important thing is to have a plan. I would say focus on studying, even if you don’t want to work in that field later you can still get a job in different field and work your way from there, you can also go back and study something else, what are you studying right now?

sitting on my ass getting unemployment payment cuz of covid, while working technically illegally but technically not if i know how to use my words, at my dad's tech repair store gettin cash in hand (but if something happens we can just say its 'pocket money' or that im 'helping out') edit: i get 200 a week from welfare then about 200 a week working 2-3 days per week atm, while also doing my music and working on my music since thats my main goal in life, not to stay working 9-5s or being on welfare lmfao. obviously this is temporary but its actually a really good thing to have happened since i have a lot of free time to do my music while also having enough money for my drug addiction and pokemon card addiction (lmfao) + saving a lot more edit 2: if my dad didnt own his own store and it wasn't something i know a fuckload about (obviously most gamerkids are good at tech stuff anyways usually) then i'd actually be royally fucked atm for dropping out of college, but i can always fall back on working w my dad if anything happens

im 25 and im almost in same situation. fallen behind on my studies, cant find a job, don't know what tf to do with my future. only difference is that im about to move back with my parents, not trying to move out. living alone when ur already struggling with school is awful, chores and cooking takes a lot of time and energy away from you you should consider a vocational education, i'm also considering that but dunno yet
2020-09-29 15:41
Estonia morsalbum2
definitely agreed, thats by far the best advice ive seen in this thread so far. ANYONE whos struggling with working and with education, be it they're not good at it or dont really like their course, etc - the best thing to do is definitely start a trade/go to a trade school. especially nowadays, 10-20 years ago computer science/IT people were very rare but nowadays EVERYONE is doing it/studying it, while a lot of the older people like boomers and gen x are starting to die out and retire, meaning trades like electricians and plumbers, etc, are VERY sought after now and soon in the future, also meaning the wages for those jobs will go up even higher than they are atm (pretty damn good salary to be honest) most trade schools offer a kinda study/apprenticeship/work program thing where they give you money and you study + work which technically pays off the fee for the education, while also giving you a good amount of money for urself. if ur living with parents and have a safe roof over ur head but have no clue what to do and are struggling/stuck, its a very good and safe bet to try starting a trade school so you can get a pretty generous amount of 'pocket money' while studying + working + they pay off your education fees out of your wages
2020-09-29 16:04
+1 I'm currently doing software engineering at uni and its not really something im actually enjoying. originally i wanted to study medicine but i would've had to travel more than an hour for uni, so i opted out of it. And now idk what to do cause i don't enjoy programming and I have no experience with any sort of trade, so i don't know if i would enjoy that either. I'm at the point where i just enrolled into uni and went with the most convenient option because i felt like i had no options left. sucks fat juicy balls tbh
2020-09-29 16:12
Stop trying to follow society stereotypes of "where you should be at X age". If your parents accept your hard times, there's no problem, my dude. Just try to get your shit together, one undigested corn grain each day.

idk mens)) in CIS region it's very normal to live with your parents there is no stigma and you simply can't afford it most of the time some people would even have to live with their parents after getting married or having kids

Why cant you take a student loan?
2020-09-29 15:59
because you need to pass 75% of your studies to qualify for a student loan
2020-09-29 16:02
Im quite sure i asked him. These words are to him aswell. Isnt simply moving into your own place motivation enough to just do the studies, to then take student loans and move out?

I'm quite sure you asked an open question, to which I responded. Or did I miss where you specifically tagged him? Fuck outta here.

He makes a statement. To wich i ask "YOU", how oblivious do you have to be to think i was talking to you. Maybe a third guy comes in now and thinks: Huh, he said you, maybe that applies to ME? Dont answer, let the third guy do it.

2020-09-29 16:34
Nope i didnt, and nope. Asked a question to the person making the post. Have no idea where in my question i ask about swedish rules, the things you add onto it in your head has nothing to do with me. Specifically asked him a question about something that regarded him. "Why cant YOU take student loans". It doesnt get much clearer than that. And the swedish flag is blue and yellow.
2020-09-29 16:47
Student loans rules apply for all Sweden and the user that replied to you is Swedish /close
2020-09-29 16:53
He is Swedish, just likes to change his flag every now and then. He is right as well. First year of college you can get by with having around 65% passed but after that you need 75% passed. It's also extremely difficult for students to find somewhere to live so even if you get the money, there might not be a use for them anyways.
2020-09-29 18:24
that's actually normal in korea, if you don't have to commute like 2 hours to uni every day people most of the time stay with thier parents until they get married
2020-09-29 16:00
Why are you failing your studies? lack of motivation or is there some other issue?
2020-09-29 16:01
Same, I am 21yo, first year in university. I get 500€ every month so half of this I give to my parents. I will try to find a job later, since its my first year in uni.

pretty normal age nowadays. like 10 years ago most people moved out with 16-17 here but its mainly due to cheap prices, which dont exist anymore.

+1 current rent is hella high, only in case if you have a girl to live with and divide rent and so on

Well. Are your parents pressuring you to move? I’m sure they’re not heartless, carry them along in the process so they see you’re working hard to be independent. You don’t stop being their son just cause you turn 21. And they’ll want to help you, especially if they see you’re trying to help yourself but things aren’t going right and that’s not your fault. But keep hustling man. If you’re not applying to 50 different jobs a day ure not trying hard enough. Trust me there’s a job out there. Don’t just look online walk out there. Ask shops if they’re hiring.
2020-09-29 16:24
this all depends on your relationship with ur parents. if it wasn'T for me wanting to live alone. i would probably still be with my parents at age 30.
2020-09-29 16:25
Buy Brilliant or some same kind of learning platform, then focus on your studies until you got time in your home, trust me, it's worth the shot. Btw you can get really big discounts when watching youtubers like mark rober or others. Have fun :)

Why would you leave your parents you stupid motherfucker? If someone stopped me when I was 19 and left to live my own life I would stay with my parents. For now you will not understand. You have some maturing to do kid
2020-09-29 16:29
I really don't understand what you mean. Are you saying moving alone is bad?

I wouldn't worry about it too much, move out when it is possible.
2020-09-29 16:50
is this actually a big deal? nothing is wrong, most of young people in russia live with their parents until 25yo because rent takes around 80% of average salary and it takes years to make a good career and move to your own house/flat
2020-09-29 16:57
i know someone who stayed with their parents untill she was 26 and she now makes very good money and has a secure job. i think its actually pretty normal (although the internet doesn't make it seem that way) the only problem is if you're 21 and not doing shit to help out or if ur living under ur parents and just doing nothing to make money or study
2020-09-29 18:05
I moved out when I was 22 and got my first appartement at 23, so you have still 2 years left

Why move out so early? Enjoy no rent and earn some cash before moving.
2020-09-29 17:19
there is no shame in living with your parents at 21 as you are still pretty young and majority of people are in uni during this age so ofc they cant afford a private apartment
2020-09-29 17:27
21 is not strange in Sweden tbh, I still know people I grew up with that is 30+- that still does that, or is back to it after uni studies while trying to land a job. People are too picky growing up in the more exclusive areas in the capital and cant imagine living more than 5 blocks from where they grew up, myself I got lucky and got a small appart at 18, central area, but im still at that one on and off. Don't worry mens!

First of all its ok to live w parents when u study. Where do u study? If you have a university scholarship u can try to get some money from this. U can leave to student hostel. Try to go to work in a company like starbucks. They can offer work conditions compatible with study

"Im almost 21 and still living with parents." Lmao, here in Brazil 99% of the 21 years old people still living with their parents too, here we leave their houses very late, we tend to leave only when the studies are finished (if it is on the same city of course) or if we already have a solid and stablished job.

it's normal to live with parents at the age of 21 You should to move out once, you are financially stable
2020-09-29 18:28
2020-09-29 18:32
this is a pretty normal age when u study, i started working with 16 and moved out with 18 and most people that start working early do this.
2020-09-29 20:20
High taxes, too many regulations for construction, too much paperwork for landlords... OBVIOUSLY there's gonna be a housing shortage, specially in big cities. Sweden's horrible system is unsustainable af, can't believe more people haven't come forward with a similar situation to yours. I have to ask, just how wealthy are your parents??? do they OWN the house in which you live with them in?
2020-09-29 20:21
TOO MUCH PAPERWORK FOR LANDLORDS LMAOO Bro, landlords work like 2 hours a week just to leech off people who actually work. They will be okay with a little paperwork, I think. Also, there is no housing shortage in his situation; he literally has a home. Do you know what "shortage" means? Furthermore, the reason he can't get his own house is because he does not have a job (during a pandemic, which is normal). So you are effectively claiming paperwork is to blame for a jobless man not being able to afford his own home. OK.
2020-09-29 20:32
I know better than to take your baits, Trik. Have a good one.
2020-09-29 20:52
At least point out which part is bait. You claimed he doesn't have a house because of a housing shortage. The guy doesn't have any income. Are you claiming that he would somehow have a house if taxes were lower or if there were less paper work? Would housing go into negative value or something? Just want to understand.
2020-09-29 20:54
I didn't know you were a leftist brainlet for real, unironically, i thought you were mainly satire. What a sad, sorry life.
2020-09-29 20:56
LMAO just explain your claims. That's literally all my asking. You claimed his situation is due to a housing shortage. Explain to me how he could have a house with no income in literally *any* housing market. If you can't do that, then just admit you're wrong. It's not hard.
2020-09-29 21:02
"You claimed his situation is due to a housing shortage" No, i was taking a shot at the current situation in Sweden's big city housing issues, people are put in wait lists for months to rent a shitty apartment. That said, if you wanted to talk precisely about his situation, it seems to me like going away would be far too expensive, he's probably not looking hard enough for a job because he has to study. And even if he got a cashier job at starbucks, it wouldn't be enough for him to live alone in a flat all for himself, probably will have to resort to sharing with a roomate. You're fundamentally wrong in everything you believe in, because you are a moron and a victim of the atrocius public schooling system.
2020-09-29 21:08
>No, i was taking a shot at the current situation in Sweden's big city housing issues, people are put in wait lists for months to rent a shitty apartment. Okay, then how is this relevant to the original post at all? It has absolutely no connection to the situation at hand. To quote your original post, "OBVIOUSLY there's gonna be a housing shortage, specially in big cities" You are """OBVIOUSLY"""" trying to connect it to his situation, and you failed horribly. At the very least, at least you admitted your original ramblings were completely irrelevant nonsense. The last 2 paragraphs you wrote are also completely irrelevant to the original question I asked, so I'm not going to bother responding. If you have to rely on pivoting, name-calling, and dishonestly approaching the topic, then maybe you are the one that is wrong. Thanks for half-admitting your nonsense. Have a nice day.
2020-09-29 21:16
No, i am 100% against such horrible and anti-freedom system. You are for it. You can't possibly have a proper discussion on this. "im not going to bother respoinding" *he says, as he responds* God you're an idiot...

You dont need to move out, paying somebody to rent their house is one of the most cucked things you can possibly do. Finish your studies and save hard, when you graduate put a down payment on a house and rent off half the house. ez

Yea before 20 majority have moved out I suppose, but a lot still live at home ofc.
2020-09-30 11:29
i mean its like okay i guess... for example if your parents got a house and you go to school until your 18 afterwards u study or havee your job education whichh lasts 3 years you are 21 where you earn enough money to find an own flat

2020-09-29 23:13
literally same situation dude. Also 21 with 0 money. Gotta have to finish the studies I guess
2020-09-30 10:18
Focus on studies, choose good profession to earn good money and at least like the job a bit, if you are on studies you don't like then change it, doesn't matter if your parents will be against it, that's your life. Try IT for sure, everyone can find something interesting in IT. If you'll be doing good on studies, parents won't be angry and you can stay then. Look for a casual job to have at least some money, try to save as much as possible but also try to live with that money, pay for some things, so parents won't have to keep you at 100%. Think positive, search for solutions. Where do you live? If you're a swede then it won't be that hard to be honest. STAY FUCKING STRONG
2020-09-30 11:00
btw. it's normal that you're 21 and still living with parents, it should be like this, you have to end studies first and get some experience in your profession(CHOOSE GOOD PROFESSION!!), then you can move, why would you move earlier? to have harder life? it's not about who has harder life and did better, it's just life. In some countries it's different, I have friends from other european countries who stays with parents to 26-27-28 because it's easier, they end studies, go to job, save money, buy necessary things like phone, computer, car, clothes etc and then move, it's easier

I've been full time working and balancing college (which I had on hold with 2 subjects to finish) since 2015, and haven't been able to get a good paying job yet to be able to move out. I also don't have a girlfriend currently and moving out and having the burden of all expenses falling on me would be straight impossible. I probably wouldn't be able to pay for rent+expenses with my paycheck and still be able to have a life. rent alone would fuck me over more than 50% of my paycheck. It also depends on the country/city you live in. In Portugal, in most cities, public transportation is pretty shit (and rent is high in city centers). If you want to work you have to own a car, and that in itself is a at least a fixed 150€/year (for the cheapest insurance you can get) + 200€/month in gas, plus maintenance (your tires need changing? - here's a 200€ expense for the most basic tires from a reputable brand. you need your car fixed cause something is acting up, here is the 100/200/300€+ receipt for it...). If I had good public transportation available, that would alleviate a lot of my fixed expenses.

These are your options. 1) Move out and apply for social welfare. 2) Join the army 3) Study something that isn't as hard. 4) Find a shitty part-time job. Apply as a Wolt courier or similar. This is the one I'll recommend and the one I did. The shitty job will keep you motivated to study and improve your life.

pretty sure you can get a job flipping burgers at McD or whatever other chain restaurant. they're always starving of desperate workers. you'll soon figure out that working and having your own money isn't all that great and you'll want to go back to studying.
