FINLAND CSGO SCENE
 |
Sweden bruhmoment000
Is it just me who is surprised that Finland CSGO scene hasn't been more succesful? So many finns playing faceit, and they are not all trash MM players like UK and polaks. The higher elo you get, the more finns you meet... Always sweaty tryhard 5stacks on 3.5k+ elo... So how come their scene is so mediocre? Can someone answer this ?

no one ever disputes that there are some pretty rich americans and large firms. no one ever disputes that there are some pretty good hospitals. no one ever disputes that there are some pretty good universities and schools. however we can find some pretty poor americans, some pretty bad hospitals, bad universities and bad schools too. that's where europeans come in and say we're better than you on average. it's probably true too. it's not a matter of public opinion it is fact.. that americans are largely self-centered in terms of education and healthcare. european countries invest a lot more in the public availability of education and healthcare, which in turn hasn't made these two corner stones of civilization luxuries for the average citizen.

yeah i agree that the effect of media today is devastating toward society. i would even go as far and say its detrimental. journalists seem to have no ethics and unlike politicians they have no accountability. the worst part is that there are a lot of european media agencies that seem to get their news from other sources. they just translate and print in their own language. it'd be nice if people had their own opinions.

well I thought a 3rd world country is defied by it being an ally with the USA or Russia in ww2. 1st world countries being USA's allies, 2nd world being Russias. Idk if the definition is different now though. I think even Sweden and Switzerland are considered 3rd world countries. Obviously though, this has little to no meaning today.

so developed that you barely have any functional public transport, that the incomes inequality is the same as France in 1700" (300y ago) that people don't go to college because access to education isn't free so they can't afford that So developed that a very light quarantine made +50M unemployments in ~2-3weeks, that healthcare is not even accessible to everyone etc etc
2020-10-21 15:10

we have totally functional public transport in the big cities, can't expect them everywhere, especially in a country as big as the states. everyone can go to college, no idea what you're talking about but you don't have to spend big bucks and go to a top uni. private college in other countries are equally expensive. no idea how unemployment caused by a virus is correlated to being a developed country lmao and for universal healthcare.. first of all, taxes would definitely go up significantly in order to compensate for it and a lot of American's are advocating for less taxes as people have a hard enough time getting by financially. Second, transitioning healthcare from a privatized industry to a government mandated industry would be an absolute nightmare to work through and would take a very long time to sort out and actually implement. Plus, since that would remove the need for health insurance, jobs would be lost and healthcare companies would go out of business. So it's not as easy as some people make it out to be.

For what I've heard at least in Russia you can skip it if you have a "good reason", and only some 11% of the male population has to serve. Here it's about 90%, and you can not skip army/civil service without a medical reason (diabetes, bad knees, flat feet etc.). But I think a bigger problem is the fact that it's just not taken seriously enough by the good players.

Same with other sports, for example you sell a good player for money, and buy a good player to replace him. But then the player you bought plays badly the whole season. It doesnt sound stupid, you just try make it sound stupid because you are retarted ence fan and hate aleksib, they could've atleast said: "oh well, maybe we didnt make best move for kicking aleksib but it is what it is". that is not even true and you can see it from this stupid travel thingy website :D traveloffpath.com/20-top-english-speakin.. even i can find those 15-30 yo persons from my closest friends, who doesn't speak english very well. they can throw out some basic calls in cs but they cant communicate or micro manage the calls. and me and my friends are higher education people and yes, many of us has been playing years and years edit; with this level of education we have in finland, we should be able to speak english far better but we don't because we don't need to talk it. in schools you can almost manage to avoid all the talking, even in universities so of course its hard later on too.

Being top10-top5 means we suck at English? I get that it's a basic Finnish mentality that everything here sucks but statistics show Finland is one of the best foreign English speaking countries in the world. And what makes it even more impressive is that our language is not even Indo-European let alone Germanic

definitely not, it just depends how you measure it, who are the target audience. for example this shows about the improving and finland is very low. so even we are top5 for speaking, there's gotta be some problems with target group of the measurement, like if the target group is college only, measure would give not too realistic statistics because vocational schooling is as big as college is in finland (okay thats a gut feeling but still) qz.com/1213443/the-world-is-getting-bett..

The thing that's going on is that all those other languages are germanic. Finland is #7 on the EF English Proficiency Index and if you think that's not enough for us to genrally give accurate callouts in a video game then Idk what to tell you. You're just desperately sticking to your point even after realising it's not correct

Just because your english is trash doesnt mean that everybody elses is. I've never met a Finn in any level faceit game that hasn't been able to communicate well in english. Maybe some talk with a thick accent because they dont care to tryhard pronouncing, but on the scale of Europe Finns have very good english.

It's up the individual wether they put in the effort to learn english properly, it's not an educating system problem like you make it seem. If you actually study like the teacher intends you to study you will learn english even just by attending class and doing homework. We have a finnish IGL on a top10 and his english probably isnt up to your standards either, yet look at how theyre doing. There's so many pro players on good teams who come from countries where the english speaking population is much less than in Finland and many of those players speak much worse english in the beginning of their international careers than anyone I personally know or have met in games. There's no way you can say it's a language barrier problem that's holding back finnish pro players from entering international teams. If anything it's the usual finnish reserved personality and not really putting yourself out there for teams and players to notice thats holding our players back.

ofc learning is always individual's responsibility but we should need to use it more for speaking in schools. aleksib english skills has got remarkable better with OG, like pronouncing and the "time needed to find the right word" skill. his talking is very fluent now. how u think finns should "put them elves out there"? i think FPL or playing in some "top" finnish team is the only way?
2020-10-20 13:55
speaking english with a finnish accent isn't a problem, it's pretty easy to understand globally. a frenchman or an indian speaking bad english is absolutely incomprehensible.
2020-10-19 20:36
finnish rallyenglish is probably the easiest to understand for most non-native English-speakers. and most people in finland start to learn english on like 3rd grade or something like that and they learn it for like 6-7 years. + if you spend your time on the internet while learning it at school there is just no way that you wouldnt be fluent enough for a csgo team.

have u heard Aerial's english? he is in pro scene and hell no he could be communicating in mix team edit you gotta understand we dont learn talking in schools or you cant learn it if u want and u actually open ur mouth but in many levels it is not enough needed thing. online gaming can teach you more talking than schools if u are not afraid of talking, many of finns are because they are shamed their skill to pronounce

you dont learn talking in school? here in finland we practice talking its just that when you play you cant really keep focusing on the pronunciation and it turns into rallyenglish. and as i said, rallyenglish is one of the easiest if not the easiest to understand for non-natives.

i started to learn english around 15 years ago and at that time we mostly focused on the grammar, it was very little amount what i had to use english for speaking before university and in university my test to pass the course was 5 min solo talking record, yes we had 1 group presentation too where everyone spoke couple minutes but that was it. focus has always been on the grammar and in my honest opinion pronouncing is maybe even a bit more important. like if u pronounce lawyer "lavier" no one is gonna recognize what r u talking about

I mean you are going into some advanced english:D you dont need more than basic callouts and ability to explain some situation ingame and thats enough. Most finns ive met in csgo can give info fluently, maybe not 100% perfect pronounciation, but the calls always get through. And as ive said couple of times now, for most people rallyenglish might be the easiest to understand.

well then i try to explain it once more. its not about to be able to call "CAT" or "XBOX". you need more accurate comms in a heat of a moment. imagine some hard ass situation when ur pulse is around 150 and u are focusing so hard and then u need to suddenly micro manage the gameplay middle of the game in english, like with accurate comms like in inferno B site 1 and 2 boxes, giving info FIRST BOX doesnt tell you is the guy in which side of the box like hugging the wall or is he having the wider angle so if u hear first box, most of us thinks right away he is hugging the wall but if he is not, ur dead already because u are focusing way different angle where the enemy actually is. ofc it depends how are u peeking this kind of angles etc. etc. but that is what i mean with accurate comms

I don't think soo but I'l gladly change opinion If you give me beliveable facts. Also, If there is a reason why Russia is not invading you rn I doubt It's bcz they are afraid of your army, It's mostly bcz whole world would turn against them.

"(and they have a right to take a part of it)" well than u need to think ur sentences more correctly because this pretty much tells that for u it was ok that russia took it. well there was many finnish people and still is in karelia but mr. big balls stalin decided to execute couple of thousands so maybe that is why its more ruski based area now. I'd like to ask u, would there be war in ukraine if russians wouldnt support and give fuckin tanks to seperatist? idk other problems in ukraine, dont much care of that country anyways and what comes to russia invading finland. finnish army isnt build up to win wars against big nations and we arent in nato bcs it would increase the pressure between finland and russia. the army is build up to idea that invading finland becomes so costly financially and in manpower that it isnt worth enough to invade

First off, the reasoning behind my first comment wasn't "Yo, no way Russia will want to do something dumb they already did once", my reasoning was that giving all the circumstances I'd say It's rather unlikely to happen and that ppl shouldn't give up part of their careers bcz of conscription. I don't know what you are trying to say with this: "well there was many finnish people and still is in karelia but mr. big balls stalin decided to execute couple of thousands so maybe that is why its more ruski based area now." Do you think you owe same rights on Karelia as Russia does on Crimea? I am not denying that Stalin did retarded stuff, tbh I know very little about history nor do I care much about it, my point was that NOW u don't have as much ppl on Karelia in % as much as there is Russians on Crimea (I believe?) "I'd like to ask u, would there be war in ukraine if russians wouldnt support and give fuckin tanks to seperatist?" I have no fucking clue, maybe It would not? but I don't see Russia just saying "take it" and I can see some reasoning behind it. "and what comes to russia invading finland. finnish army isnt build up to win wars against big nations and we arent in nato bcs it would increase the pressure between finland and russia. the army is build up to idea that invading finland becomes so costly financially and in manpower that it isnt worth enough to invade" Which in a way means that all your efforts in having a well prepared citizens in case war happens might be worthless? Again Idk why are u telling me this, further more If we go by the same logic Russians, If wanted could've conquered your country but It just wasn't worth and If you consider that they at least they had Germans as an ally back then, I don't see them risking to conquer you today even If they somehow can morally justify that It's ok to do it. (which also kinda changed compared to back then?)

This is the biggest reason imo. CS:GO is very popular in Finland and for ages there have been good players. So a young star comes out of faceit in Finland and what then? There is one tier 2 team and a bit more tier 3 teams that consist of veterans and rarely change rosters.

Also in Finnish pro teams there's a massive problem with players wanting to play with friends rather than players that would actually improve the team. ENCE is the most notorious example, kicking igl to play with old pal in order to "have fun". This is only one example of many but it is only a manifestation of what has been a big problem in the Finnish scene for ages.

I think it was more of an issue with allu's ego not being able to take shit from aleksib who was responsible for the team tactics. "Why are you telling me how to play when I frag better than you?!?!111". So at the first opportunity he pulls off a "NiKo" move and uses his influence on the org (which is huge) to get aleksi kicked out.
2020-10-20 13:09
3 replies
wild speculation. Also we are talking about allu, an older player, who has pretty much seen it all when it comes to this game. I'd say that there is only a really narrow chance that the removal of Aleksib had anything to do with the childish shit that you described.
2020-10-20 15:07
2 replies
I said nothing of childish and everything of oversized EGO that allu does apparently have. As a finn myself I have an ear on the finnish scene and access to finnish language sources including finnish esports reporters who have a very clear picture of what happened with aleksib. To summarize: allu wanted the game to center on himself and his weapon and (delusionally) believed ence could be top 1 team if he got more liberties and play the game how he wanted (just like niko btw) but in his hubris he forgot that it was IGL (just like karrigan in faze) who built the structure possible to make ence a succesful top 5 team in the world. He then got aleksi kicked out and took the IGL role for himself (just like niko) and the team stopped performing at that instant (just like faze) so its there for all to see already. If you understood fluent finnish you would have access to finnish language reporters and enthusiasts with inside knowledge of the finnish scene and you would know this already. Also being childish does not equal big ego and hubris. Both niko and allu have that in spades and it will impact their careers and what they could win negatively. Both players should have won a lot more already than they have and its a waste of talent because their egoes get in the way of winning and even destroy winning combinations of teams.
2020-10-20 17:04
1 reply
Also to add for faze, they went downhill before karrigans kick because niko had been undermining him for months and he was not allowed even to call the game for the last 6 months or so. When karrigan functionally lost the control of the team because of egotistical stars in team (mostly niko) it was the beginning of the end for faze as absolute top team.

I guess this is one of the correct anwers. If you are a really good player at the age of 15-17 etc, ur parents will tell you "you should focus on school and army". It’s a big risk to try to become a professional CSGO-player, so humble Finns go to school and "real" work and army aswell. also Finns are mostly individual athletes, so they just grind pugs and deathmatch with toxic mentality, instead of trying to build a team.

Finns don't care, that is the issue, they do not care about being good and don't even want to play in real competitions, it is all about being a dick and destroying noobs rather than perfecting your game. Most Finnish players' attitudes towards the game is bad, they want to do crazy shit alone and then talk down on their teammates for being shit in the game unfortunately.

I think you described most players in general? What I think is the real reason? You just don't give a fuck, living in your country seems easy and making risks doesn't seem like a worth trade. Where are the best CS players from? Either from countries where cs was already popular (Denmark, Sweden, perhaps France) or some 2nd world shitholes like ex Russian countries, Russia, etc. I was mainly talking about EU here, I almost never found Americans impressive in CS compared to their population, Brazil also seems like a shitty 2nd world country soo taking risks is worth.

CS is as big in Finland as it is in Sweden and Denmark, popularity is not the issue, it is the fact that people just don't give a shit. Pursuing CS is not even a risk here since you can live somewhat comfortably on welfare, it is a greater risk in countries where the welfare is worse because you literally have nothing if you fail.

I didn't say It's a bigger risk, I said that compared to 2nd world shitholes It's not a risk worth taking bcz you are gonna live comfortably no matter what where in 2nd world unless you make it big your life will most likely be pretty pathetic. It seems like Danes advertise it way more, I still think It's more popular there but idk.

I guess it stems from the same issue as with all sports - it's nice to have a hobby as a kid/teenager, but closing in on 20 you kind of don't want to go through the extra work because it's unlikely you're ever gonna be the world's greatest anyway, even if you're really good in your own age group at the time. And if you're not gonna be in the top 1% of your sport, why bother, financially or otherwise. (Ice hockey is the biggest exception, because their future prospects are better with sticking with the sport). CS also has pretty shitty incentives and guidance on grassroots level here, for now - sergej quit at 15 and only came back because allu convinced him on the ENCE project, and derkeps would rather go to a joke of a school than try to push it towards tier 1. Most kids playing CS enough to be good at it are too autistic to form a legit career by themselves.
