I have it at 1.31v for the overclocking. Might need a better cooler for higher volts/clocks. I'm using 3000MHz RAMs but it would probably support up to something like 3400MHz.

2020-10-23 15:47

I sold my 2600 and got 1700 as replacement, 2600 has like 5% fps more on cpu bound games like csgo but that's not relevant for me. On other games it won't increase your fps as long as the bottleneck is in the gpu. The multi core performance on the 1700 is much better tho.

it's a delusion. in addition to slow cores, 1700 also has high inter-core latency, and a slow memory controller. it will become outdated much earlier than games start utilizing 16 threads.

2020-10-23 19:33
There is no big difference in performance between 1000 and 2000 series, but starting from 3000 series (Zen 2; desktop, not APU) there is good performance boost.

2020-10-23 20:35
Depends on what you need mate. Both of them are great CPUs, but I think that solely for gaming the 2600 would be better. Gaming in general, and CSGO specifically usually uses single core, so even though the 1700 has 8c/16t which is quite higher than the 6c/12t of the 2600, the single core performance would be higher for the 2600. So unless you're going to do some video editing or anything else that might utilize more cores/threads, I'd pick the 2600, and if you can stretch to the 3600 even better. Eventually, for CS only, any of them would be good enough nowadays..

Well things like that vary, you could obviously OC, but doing that might require better cooling, mobo, PSU, so that also something that needs to be considered. And generally speaking, just like how you can OC the 1700, you could also OC the 3600 :)

if you only intend to play games, the 2600 is the better cpu but if you can put the extra cores of the r7 1700 to work on productivity apps as well, then the r7 1700 could prove more attractive price is crucial of course but, imo, just consider the r7 1700 of you are into oc otherwise i would give the extra to buy the r5 2600

Are you buying the Ryzen 1700 in Aliexpress? It's in fact costs the double, but Ryzen 3600 are more consistent with Ram and Performance, haves a better thermal and power eficiency, and will give you much more less headpain (trust me, Ryzen first generation is a pain in the ass).

youtube.com/watch?v=dn9EMlxdCrM For most games its barely better (sometimes even worse) than almost 10 year old OC'd i7-2700k. So if you have 2600k or newer Intel CPU (and have OC'd), it's basically a sidegrade unless you play heavily threaded AAA games such as Assasins Creed: Odyssey, or need the extra processing power in somewhere else.

generally intel doesn't let you do that, z270 supported 6th gen, 7th gen. z370 supports 8th gen, 9th gen. It might be possible if you're willing to flash a bios on your motherboard though idk If you go for say, an r5 2600 or r7 2700 next time you see a sale or when the price drops in BR again, you could have a b450 or b550 motherboard and should be able to upgrade to even r5 5600x years later when needed.

It doesn't depends on resolution, CPU has nothing to do with that stuff at all, CPU must hande game's engine.

Yeah but at 1440p and 4k the GPU turns to be the bottleneck, so it wont matter which CPU you have. If you put the game on ultra low 720p and it runs on 200 fps, then your CPU can deliver 200 fps, even on 4k, but because of the GPU it will run on 40 fps. Look at this comparion 1700x vs 2700x vs 3700x. On 1080p the difference can be 30+ fps, but on 4k only 2~4 fps. youtube.com/watch?v=F6dI7mJrw9o

if you only use ur pc only for gaming, go for a ryzen 3 3300x, if u use it for editing/etc you can buy that, gl mens))
2020-10-24 19:26
Yes and no. 3rd gen ryzen (3k) are already better than this CPU, and 4th gen (5k) simply destroys it
