Is CS going to die?
 |
Canada YankeeM
100T org left FaZe might leave to Cloud9 if they are going to do poorly also Spunj said that EG is leaving Without NA T1 orgs, there will be fewer sponsors, fewer tournaments, fewer teams. Looks really sad. What do you think?

You forgot that c9 is nowhere for about 2 years, 100T is new org, they tried, didnt succeed, left, EG also quite new, FaZe also rotating players for 1.5 year, so, look at "new" orgs furia, og, complexity, they just get sh*t together and got to leading positions
2020-10-29 09:34
EG isnt leaving C9 wont leave, they will keep wasting money faze probably

na teams are a small part of cs, idk if we lose some shitter tier 2 teams like 100t. to address your original post: 100t was a shit team theres no evidence or even rumours that faze will leave 3 year contracts on c9 players spunj heard a rumour that no one else has heard at all

I ain't saying that Spunj is right or anything, but not just about EG he, said that about some NA orgs thinking about withdrawing, and 100T did. Also he mentioned on HLTV podcast about how they will feel about Som leaving CSGO for Valorant, weeks later Som isn't a CSGO pro anymore. He does happen to be in and around people where the rumors are mostly true.

100t leaving was something that all the analysts on the podcast had heard, ive not seen a single thing indicating that eg wants to leave (except exactly this sentence from spunj). its possible, but now that theyve gone to europe its even less likely.

You don't know the actual numbers valorant gets daily, you do know that in steam. Riot always releases info when its the most relevant for them to do so Valorant is also dead in eu. 1hr+ q times for valorant players @mixwell even said so.

You're right. Valorant is dead in Europe. I don't understand this notion that this game will take over and kill cs, when the game itself is already a mess, with no scene, overpaid players and orgs jumping in just trying to take advantage of the recent hype. That is a formula for a disaster.

CS can't die. It's way too established. It's very much unlike your typical yearly CoD release. It's like WoW, it's impossible to kill it. Only the developers can pull the plug on these titans. And actually, they can't even do that - because private servers and community servers. People will always find a way.

Once I thought the same thing about Unreal Tournament, but today it is just a tine shadow of what once was. Of course the internet was less mainstream back then, but I can remember that when the demo version of Unreal Tournament was release it meant that on the very day the volume of internet traffic data increased by 40%. Simply due to people downloading the demo and playing it online. Eventually CS will go the same way as UT, unless it can somehow remain refresh and relevant. Fact of a matter is that the entry bar to playing CS is low, but the level of commitment called for to really make it is huge, so for many new people it will be more fun and easier to venture into some new game. I do not know the numbers, but I imagine the average age of a CS player is climbing meaning less new people are coming in.

Going to? It's already dying. The only reason NA CS isn't already finished, is because Liquid and EG are too late to join Valorant and be tier 1, so they try to cling to life in their dead scene. Otherwise you could cross of that continent from CS. EU looks ok for a couple of more months though, but it is inevitable at this point.

it won't die but it won't grow at this rate..... gonna go like Overwatch where there needs to be a reduction in the amount of pay in the whole scene
2020-10-28 22:50
When LANs come back, pro scene is going to rise again. Online esports is always quite coinflip as we have seen from many qualifiers that some almost nonamers are getting into the whole tourney and then getting smashed and going to exit at the last place.
2020-10-29 00:02

No. Less NA teams won't have a huge impact anyway. CS has thrived even before NA entered the scene in any meaningful way. Also C9, EG and FaZe aren't going anywhere anytime soon. 100T was the exception, but it never looked good anyway. They're a clothing company that also happens to have an esport division. They did absolutely nothing with their CS team. They put out, what, 2 videos with the CS team? The welcome, and goodbye ones haha.
2020-10-30 01:23
CS will never die. No other game has hardcore fans like cs has. All these other games are flavour of the month type of games with bandwagon followings. As long as there are hardcore fans, cs will never die. Viewership and player numbers are irrelevant to me. I love this game and i'm gonna watch it even if only 1000 people watch it. And people seem to forget that CS growth has been grass roots. Valve hasn't done SHIT about the game apart from having the majors. Everything else has been community driven. Compare that to these new games which the devs put all they have behind them. I'd say it is pretty awesome that cs is still relevant with little to almost zero support from the devs.
2020-10-30 02:19
Same thing happened in 1.6, they did fine with out NA. It will depend on what level of interest the young kids have for CSGO because it is starting to be "old news" now, which happened for 1.6 the newer kids just follow.what looks more graphically appealing or whatever is trending on twitch. Competition however will last as long as it's supported.

CS:GO won't ever die, there's more money in the scene than 1.6 at it's height.
2020-10-30 02:41
I believe that there are several reasons why CS is dying slowly. 1- Majors with very low payouts. It is very difficult to maintain the salaries that players receive, only the teams that are winning titles have security in the profession. Dota 2 has a much smaller base player and still manages to reach another level of awards with The International and it is possible to do something similar at CSGO. 2- Very weak marketing work on the game, it could be much better worked and so far the only means of promotion is Steam itself. 3- Lack of innovation in the game, only a few weapon changes and it is very difficult to see any new maps entering the competitive. 4- Lack of communication between Valve and organizations and incentive for them to continue and expand, as regional and international leagues, the truth is that Valve does not get involved with the community and much less with the professionals, Riot does it very well and with absurd success. Many people will say that it is a good game, and CSGO is very good, it doesn't need much to work and I agree, but it could be much richer than it is. Not to mention the improvements for casual players, like better servers, tick 128, new ranking system etc.
