Favourite chess openings & defenses
 |
Finland 7ones
Atm I am quite addicted to chess, just beat 2000 elo chess machine without help. It chess it just makes you feel so intelligent to smash your opponent after a close game. So what are your favourite openings and defenses? If I had to pick only one for each maybe italian game and hoping to get evans gambit accepted or even fried liver attack as white and caro-kann defense on black against e4 (for better end game pawn structure). I used to enjoy french defense quite some time until developed into caro-kann player.

You might find chess books boring so I would recommend youtube videos. They are easy and entertaining. First take a look at the best openings thechessworld.com/articles/openings/ches.. Then look at the most common openings chess.com/clubs/forum/view/most-common-o.. Now watch youtube videos on openings that appear on both lists. Lists are sure not valid on master level.

At Chess.com there are good tutorials that will explain you all the moves and general ideas and principles. I would start there if I were you

Agree, Chess.com or lichess.org/learn#/ ist a very good start. If you like videos more, mby. even look at some of the first videos the unexperienced pogchamp streamers did with Hikaru or Naroditsky... Kinda cool to have very basic theory explained by GMs. But I would not learn specific opening theory before 1000-1200elo... Because learning the basics is much more important, and also a lot more fun:)

I stopped playing chess like years ago. I can just say that if we are talking about French defense it's not looking to good atm.

queen's gambit declined/ evans gambit

I'm now around 2050 elo fide. I'm an e4 player. As white I play the Vienna game on e5 and a fianchetto on the sicilian. On d4 I play the Grunfeld, and c4 a kings indian type defense. Against the london I try a slav-like defense and on e4 the alekhine defense.

Hoyl moly you are good, I am below 1400. I also enjoy Vienna game, somehow the king's gambit lines in general make me feel at home. Kasparov was also known for Grunfeld defense?

Do not play too aggresive when you're starting! Play principled, to understand chess first.

Like everyone does. Stay off those until you learn tactics. I recommend you buy chess books to learn theory, more than videos online. I have around 40 chess books and they're very helpful. I'm only 16 so i've not studied them all but time will come and you can do the same too

Because of Hikaru Nakamura's stream on twitch that got other twitch personalities interested in the game. He is entertaining and a god at chess obviously. A very rare combination

I like to play the Giuoco Piano as white. As black I like some variation of Sicillian if e4 or I'll play Indian if d4, but I experiment all the time.
