RYZEN FPS GAIN
Lobanjica |
United States colbert^
Most people know that CSGO is a game that doesn't use many cores or threads - this will boost your fps on ryzen. By limiting the amount of cores CSGO can use, you can increase your fps. I have a ryzen 5 1600 @3.8Ghz and in the FPS benchmark map I got 205 FPS, after I got 330. Instructions: 1. Download Process Lasso, which will keep your core affinity set permanently, unlike task manager where you will have to manually change the core affinity every time. 2. All you need to do is select which cores to enable for csgo in process lasso. For ryzen 3: enable 3 and 4, for ryzen 5: enable 6,8,10. For ryzen 7, enable 8,10,12,14. The reason why this works is because it doesn't allow your CPU to use cores on csgo that are already being used to perform background tasks, so the cores that are running csgo for you are completely dedicated to running csgo, not anything else. Here is a video of a guy explaining this: youtube.com/watch?v=RiPU5u3IxY8

I have 2x8gb sticks at 3200 (dual channel). Dual channel is significantly better than single channel for gaming, and I think quad channel with ryzen even boosts performance a little bit.

Ryzen CPUs (except Threadrippers) can't work in quad-channel mode, so having more RAM sticks won't boost performance. Here is the list of CPUs that support quad-channel mode -en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-channel_memo..

You have 6 cores but 12 threads, so it should say cores 0 through 11. Idk why it would not show all of your threads - maybe you don't have Simultaneous Multi-threading/Hyper threading on? You can find out how many threads you have really easily with CPU-Z.

Ryzen 5 3500/3500X only have 6 cores, and no SMT (no extra threads).

Oh sorry I thought it said 3600x. Idk what you would do in that case; you can experiment - I would first try enabling cores 1 3 5 and disabling 0 2 4. Core 0 is used for background tasks often. You could also try enabling all of the cores except for core 0.

Yeah makes sense that it would not help for the 3500 because no SMT
2020-11-29 19:48
If you disabled CPPC option(s) in BIOS then you can try to uncheck 0,1,2. But actually you don't really need to do anything, you should be fine since your CPU has no SMT anyway.

lost 20 fps on important map spot using this method, but i dont have ryzen, and not really understand what ryzen changes because intel has multiple cores too

Intel processors are better optimized for csgo and they have less cores. This method works well on ryzen because it forces your cpu to only use a limited amount of cores, which actually works better due to csgo's reliance on just a few fast cores. If csgo was optimized for lots of cores than this method would be useless.
2020-11-28 20:25
29 replies
Intel CPUs aren't optimized for CS:GO. CS:GO just uses old engine which have better performance at 3 fast cores and can't use multi-core (6, 8 or more) advantage.
2020-11-28 21:19
> This method works well on ryzen because it forces your cpu to only use a limited amount of cores Wrong. It forces CS:GO to use physical cores instead of physical cores + virtual threads. You could achieve the same result without Process Lasso, by setting SMT off in BIOS/UEFI.
2020-11-28 21:21
27 replies
1. Yes I didn't mean to say optimized really, that was the wrong word you are correct. 2. If you disabled SMT, then your PC would be worse at doing things that you would want more threads for.

Setting affinity to certain cores for certain application =/= disabling cores or threads. You can still use these cores/threads with other applications. CS:GO uses 3 threads by default btw.

It is disabling. You can do it by disabling SMT also, you will get some extra +1-2 fps in other games on DX12 either.

You can do it for other games also, in BIOS. You will get some extra performance (1-2%) and less power consumption. Great job AMD))))
2020-11-29 18:46
Are you dumb or baiting? Disabling SMT will lead to the same result as setting affinity to only physical cores and vice versa, but it's not necessary to disable anything in BIOS. Personally I don't use SMT on my gaming PC though. Not even because of performance but because of latency. And I would have done the same if I were using Intel CPU.
2020-11-29 19:01
18 replies
You're the dumb one. It's not necessary but it's better than SMT ON, cuz you will have extra performance and less power consumption. AMD just pulled more cores for dumbs like you that will run to buy theirs product because of some cores, while Intel users will have 6C\6T and have more fps than you.
2020-11-29 19:04

I doubt SMT has significant impact on power usage, as I said I have SMT disabled but I didn't notice any "extra" performance nor less power consumption. Provide reliable proofs for that (benchmarks, tests) or are you just bedroom-based theorist? I don't care if somebody has more fps than me, I have more than enough.

What does memory controller have to do with anything? It's not about memory controller, it's about how HT/SMT works. Running CS:GO at virtual threads instead of physical cores only isn't good, doesn't matter if you're using Intel or AMD. I see you're not only clueless in the topic, but also troll and baiter. You also don't need a very high end cooler to get the full capability. hltv.org/forums/threads/2384853/cpugpu-3.. See #188 on this post if you want to learn why a higher framerate matters

it has to do with the infinity fabric thats connecting the chiplets between ur cores. on a 2600 u have 3+3 cores on 2 different chiplets, and it creates some latency between them when they want to share resources, and CSGO is super finicky with that since its an old dx9 game. if valve would update go to use vulkan like they did with dota2 it would be pretty good for performance more than likely :()

Yep, in theory setting affinity for CS:GO to use only cores from the same CCX should be better for latency (and maybe overall performance), but that's not where fps improvement comes from. #96

i did testing on my 3700X with process lasso on 1600x900 low, and the difference between 8c/16t, 8c/8t and 4c/4t using one CCX was in the 10 fps margin of error in run to run variance. Seems like this is more so helpful for 1xxx and 2xxx ryzens :()

I haven't noticed any significant difference with 3600x neither, but I use it 6/6 (smt off) 24/7 since this PC is only for gaming and I have another PC for all other tasks.

Educate yourself please <3 I feel bad for people like yourself because you have to fight over a company rather than the product. If you can use two eyes and half a brain cell you’d see Ryzen has been superior for 2 years now without a doubt but instead you stick to your brainless consumerism and buy the shinier box, ignoring the actual importance of what’s inside it.

I feel bad for people like you cuz you have no eye for sure. Ryzen has been seriously inferior to Intel in games for last, emm...all the time, i guess. You only see brand, don't you?)
