If your god is the god of the gap, you pretty much know there's nothing like gos( at least nothing of the nature you typically understand by "god"). People used to think god was pulling on planets to keep them orbits cause Newton's equation broke otherwise. That was a god of the gap, and as soon as Einstein corrected gravity there was no need for this god to correct planets in orbit cause the equations did that by itself.
If all your god is are gaps of science then pretty soon the current batch of Gods will be replaced by new "gods" lol. That's a pretty sad institution of God if you ask me

Referring god as the "gaps" sounds Insane, if anyone has ever even said that.
It'd be dumb enough for you to make it yourself, but it'd also be dumb enough from your side if you take anyone saying that seriously and even into consideration.
What you wrote might aswell be a misinterpretation from your side, the "them" must've said, they believe god to be the gyst of everything, the simplest and the most basic structural element is what they refer to as "god"
To explain it to you better, let's take what you mentioned yourself, Newton's gravitational formula, masses attract masses, or matter attracts/applies the so called gravitational force on matter, but for it to behave this way is astonishing when one puts his thoughts behind it, matter could've "just existed", but the estrange behaviour, is just unexplainable even in its crudest forms
And no one likes things they don't understand, so to adapt and to accomodate themselves in, they give it the name of god, AleksiGOD
