Yeah I've been suffering from sleep deprivation for a long time too. Been taking sleeping pills for years, but honestly nothing helps better than a few beers. I drink 3 to 4 beers every evening before sleep now, and I might have become an alcoholic but at least I'm getting my much needed sleep.

This is an rather unproductive advice but try to stay awake for as long as possible. Its bound to fuck up your sleep schedule or cause other problems but I do that when its absolutely necessary.
Apparently if you relax your entire face and lay down with enough force you can sleep instantly. Try thinking of something relaxing or something that made you fall asleep easily before.
focus on the breathing like they teach in meditation (i suppose), close your eyes and take deep breaths for about 10min, works for my gf

Dont know if you're still reading this, but one exercise made me get better sleeps: I start to breathe deeply and try to free my mind. It sounds corny but it works. Also, try to exhaust your body during the day with exercises
First find the reason. Can you not sleep because of continuous thoughts? Do you feel sleepy but can't sleep? If you can focus on the reason and combine it with the solutions people mentioned here, you might get fast results.
I had this problem this summer. It was similar to yours. I stopped looking at screens 2-3 hours before sleep except solving some algorithm problems (which tired my mind), I forced myself to wake-up at 6 am and ride bicycle a couple of days in a row and I did not sleep during the day. I got results in 1 week.
Once you get used to sleep at a particular time, you should not lose control. I usually go to bed around 12. Sometimes, I feel sleepy around 11pm, I don't go to bed and spent some time online and I lose my urge to sleep after 12.30. Then, I sleep at 1, next day even later etc. it goes out of control.
So, once you feel sleepy, you should sleep.

Do some sports like martials arts, running, bodybuilding and try to do them hardest you can. In combination with work im falling asleep in 5 minutes.
