Yeah, about the major, if you check the major finals stats, s1mple choked in both the finals, it was really sad :(
In both of s1mple's major finals, the first one being against the practically unbeatable team of that time - SK Gaming 2016, Liquid were the underdogs, and s1mple had hard-carried them literally up to the major finals, but in the finals, he choked. In Faceit major 2018, they were against the Peak Astralis, also practically unbeatable (they had like a 32 match win streak, and many more. Astralis never lost :D) s1mple and electronic had carried all through the tournament, but choked in the finals :(
In the 2 major semi-finals that s1mple's played in, he was a beast individually, but his team absolutely sucked, couldn't hit shots. That ENCE Mirage clip still gives me a bad mood lol :(
Yeah, the star player style worked up till 2015, I would say. The meta was more mechanical skills-based, rather than strats-based. Hence, underdog victories were practically impossible, since the top teams had better individuals. Astralis changed the meta from a mechanical skill/star based one, to a stratting and anti-stratting based one. Many people say that Astralis made the game boring with their tactical style :D, but it worked. It wiped out most teams, regardless of firepower, except Navi. s1mple+elec firepower was usually too much to handle, just by anti-stratting. And yeah, nobody other than Astralis could beat them when they were on fire. It seems that Astralis anti-stratted s1mple so hard, for the major grand-finals, they took him out first, and that was Navi's kryptonite. Nowadays, strats are most important, you are right.
Who am I? :D Just a friendly person on HLTV.
