metalheads come here
Germany Winterlight
Can anyone recommend me some songs? Any sub genre, basically anything you like I like fast songs with changing riffs, I also enjoy instrumentals a lot but at the same time I can listen to static black metal song and still enjoy it I like all sub genres of metal, except probably modern metalcore(basically all new metalcore bands but I still like the genre) if you know any of the bands listed below, give me your personal top 3(5)(10)(1000) songs from them: Dream theater Iced earth Fleshgod apocalypse dimmu borgir also if you know any band that combines power metal with death metal vocals(example:crimson shadows) link me their stuff Probably not the right place to ask but whatever

Parkway Drive, Sleeping with Sirens (only their heavier material could be considered metalcore, even their softer songs are nice though) Chunk! No, Captain Chunk ("happycore", but their sound is close to easy metalcore in a lot of songs), Myka, Relocate (their 2015 album is one of my favorite albums), August Burns Red. Stuff like that off the top of my head.

From those you mention I only listen to Dream Theater (the ones I like: Panic Attack, Barstool Warrior, Paralyzed, Untethered Angel) Bands I recommend: Amorphis (plenty of different subgenres, I recommend Mission, House of Sleep, Weaving the Incantation, From Earth I Rose, Mermaid, My Enemy, Dark Path and Bad Blood); Bloodred Hourglass (sick melodeath band, listen to Waves of Black, Alysia, The Last of Us, Six Feet Savior, Valkyrie, Where the Sinners Crawl) Soilwork (mostly melodic stuff, listen to Witan, Rejection Role, Bleeder Despoiler, The Ride Majestic, Death Diviner, The Thrill, The Nothingness and the Devil)

I don't like new trivium tbh. I really enjoyed their progressive metal album, trash album is fine and ascendancy is great, there's couple of good songs on built to fall but newer stuff is more like alternative metal and I don't really like it I like the vocals on crawl through knives, the solo is also pretty good. Definetely a good song. Didn't really like colony, sounds boring to me Avenged sevenfold is a great band man but it's the same as trivium for me I enjoyed their progressive songs so much, those solos on nightmare like burried alive or save me are so good, nightmare as an album is their best work imo But their new stuff is just not my thing

The problem with Sabaton for me personally is that I just find them kinda bland/boring. Like I find it so hard to become genuinely interested in their music as a whole. They're the type of band that I can listen to a few songs and then be done but I doubt I'll ever actually do a deep dive into their albums. The only one I've been able to listen to all throughout is Great War which I did kinda like but once again, it's just not that interesting.
2020-12-15 22:51
Their songs seems kinda simple for a metal band.(at least the ones I've heard) The riffs, the solos(if the song even had one) are really simple. Nothing impressive about the vocals too(like no highs or anything) feel like : okay, they're fine but why do people say they're as good as stratovarious or sonata arctica?

they are really good in concerts the music is not the best but the feeling and atmosphere is very good (which is imo more important than the music itself)

Old In Flames is definitely a recommendation from me if you haven't listened to it before. 1996-2000 was their best years imo! Here's a few song examples from each album within that period. 1. youtube.com/watch?v=v0Ag3x5tozo ( "Moonshield" - The song that sold me as In Flames fan! This a live performance from 2017 that I was so excited and emotional to see them perform at the time since they hadn't played since like 11 years prior to this one). 2. youtube.com/watch?v=MH4JjVnq8Z4 ( "Jester Script Transfigured" - Skip to like 02:07 and get ready for Melodic Death Metal in it's most concentrated form! After having explored much of In Flames's discography, hearing this song was a jaw-dropping experience! Such an underrated song imo!) 3. youtube.com/watch?v=HxGOB2hDpis ( "Man Made God" - You said you could listen to instrumentals and here's a great one. Creates a lot of hype for me personally!) 4. youtube.com/watch?v=FriO6nuMG7o ( "Surburban Me" - A great song from the last God tier album In Flames has made so far. Another underrated gem if you ask me!) No idea if you'll like it but if you've listened to and enjoyed any other Melodic Death Metal band before then I certainly think you will!

Last time I heard them live was summer 2019 and they were amazing then but I'm not sure exactly how the status is with stand-in musicians and such atm. Anders can certainly still growl though.
2020-12-15 23:28
Yeah, they're in a tier of their own! They have these secret gigs every now and then under a different name (usually "Jesterhead/s" or something similar). Anyway, I was lucky enough to get to see them practice their setlist for their upcoming festival "Borgholm Brinner" last year in this super tiny concert-hall and they straight up played The Hive of off Whoracle! It was just as amazing live as you'd imagine!! It's so nice to see them play their old songs still. It seems like they usually try to get at least a few of them on their setlist even now. Also, don't know if you're fakeflagging, but afaIk they usually tour quite a bit in the US as well so maybe if you're lucky enough you might not have to travel across the world for it. ^^ Otherwise they do have their festival Dalhalla Brinner coming up in September 2021. Not sure if tickets are available anymore since it was originally planned for this year but then Covid came :/

youtube.com/watch?v=xCtZCa-Wyj8&ab_chann.. youtube.com/watch?v=3w5cLn0oL5g youtube.com/watch?v=XhLZ0uHm0EQ&ab_chann.. Woods Of Ypres is also a light that I will carry for the rest of my life, I love every song of every album of that band. Sadly, the mastermind behind the band passed away, which makes everything even darker and sadder. Also slamming brutal death metal is a very good genre if you like extremely heavy stuff. But if you like speed and change of riffs/tempo, search for brutal death, I EXTREMELY recommend Guttural Secrete.

In my last mourning by thy light is some good DSBM, I should probably listen to the whole album The hawthorne passage is nice too Immediately liked Lighting & snow by Woods of Ypres after listening for like 1 minute, great song.I just heard the solo and I liked it even more... Can you recommend anything else from Woods Of Ypres?

Their material can vary a bit, and I have to say you either love it, or your fucking hate it. I recommend everything they have. It's amazing how they can portray my emotions in melodies and my feelings in the lyrics. It is hauting how I can find myself in so many of David's lyrics. The whole album of that song you listened too is beyond amazing. Silver hits me hard, VERY hard, the lyrics are too close to reality for me. And it seems he saw his own death in the last song of the album. The thing he describes in the song is exactly how he died, before the album even get released. One of his last posts of Twitter haunt me because in one of them he says how dangerous this album is because for some people the things said in the songs are the raw, brutal reality for many. And it really is... Same for Agalloch, I recommend all their stuff. The White album is epic, along with The Mantle and Ashes Against The Grain. John was an extremely talented dude, too bad the band split up. Their melodies are perfect, I love everything from them to death.

Forgot to mention Before The Dawn, basically every song is amazing (my absolute favorite melodeath band, I've literally cried while listening to them). They disbanded in 2013, their producer is now in Wolfheart which also is a crazy good band. youtu.be/H0L1-u2VSNY youtu.be/ac_BhPKrZx4 youtu.be/M1rLwIyzBiw youtu.be/vLY52GXW8HA youtu.be/3Lhe4uYEW2g youtu.be/A5UoEdKodU4
