I wasn't following previous top 20 lists very carefully and surely NA scene made some differences in this 2020 top 20, but I still can't understand the logic behind some of those places. I have so many questions like:
1) I think xantares and k0nfig deserved to be on this list. Also maybe valde or mantuu. But they put brehze and jks in it? And even if they deserve to be on this list then I would still put brehze > jks, unless farming against t5 teams while all your team is afk so you get better rating should put you above brehze.
2) How and why is krimz #17, who, imo didn't do much in 2020. The only one who should be in this list from fnatic is brollan and even he idk if should be this high but just my opinion because I just can't see how he did better than k0nfig or xantares.
3) Why is yuurih #14 but elige #8? Both were farming against t5 teams. But the gap in this one is just unreal imo, and even if you would put elige as #8 then yuurih should've been like #10 or smth.
4) I would put syrson over dupreeh, but this one is probably justified so can't say much
Overall, I don't know if because of too many tournaments or online matches but the players look worse. You have these players like s1mple, zywoo but then also jks as #19 who plays like 50 times worse than those two. Maybe I'm spoiled by these two animals so that's why many others look really bad, but also can't really remember many players of this list being pretty good all year, it just felt like they were, well, decent I guess. What's your opinion about 2020 top 20?

+1 on all points, krimz defenetly shouldn't be here and brehze and jks shouldn't even be close to the top
you can argue about dupreeh or syrson, since team achievements also play a role and dupreeh won way more shit, but I agree he was way too high on the top for his stats
Also, dont know why tf elige 8, he should be 13 next to yuurih top, i guess HLTV doesnt wanna lose NA fans or whatever
A lot EU players lost their place just cos NA players farming tier73 teams over and over again xd, like valde, mantuu (especiall mantuu holy shit i'd be mad if i was him) xantares, k0nfig broky etc

3) agreed. it feels like they valued performance regardless of the scene they played in, but then again that obviously did not count for CIS teams
4) i know flag checks out but i would have put dupreeh and syrson over elige 100%
i think this is the worst ranking we've had yet so far. at least its the one that is the least explainable.
Hltv does not understand that the NA teams were locked in their region most of the time and their rating is completely biased, they also did not give out the title of mvp for cis rmr tournaments, despite the fact that the cis level is objectively higher
And for some reason they do not show the filters by which they calculate statistics

I don't know if I could put top cis teams over top na teams (except for navi) but I can definitely agree that cis scene as a whole is looking stronger than na scene at the moment

I think that you can find raw talent everywhere but it feels like in cis they just use raw talent more than other scenes to win games, others use more strategic ways. I could be wrong though

vp + gambit + NaVi + spirit = 1210 points in hltv world ranking
Liquid + EG + Furia + ex chaos = 985. It gets even wider when you factor int he #5 6 and 7

you just added up all the points of the teams at the current time where there are no events on including no cis or na rtr, which has nothing to do with the top 20 ranking which is what the topic is about
the road to rio tournament was back in may, the combined points of na would've come to about 1800 points rather than cis would've come to 1200 (800 points from navi btw)
sure maybe now at the start of fucking 2021 with no events cis are ranked higher but when the region locked tournaments were actually relevant back in april-may na was way more stacked than cis

Right now, and for most of 2020, CiS has 1 elite team in NaVi where NA barely even had one at all.
Spirit, VP and Gambit have proven themselves to be relevant and strong teams even against europeans. What have the NA teams done? We have two teams who are even noteworthy at all and only TL have done anything against the europeans.

the original poster is directly comparing how the region locked events are weighed and the person i replied too was wondering why there was no mvps for CIS locked tournaments and i explained with points why.
You also do realise that in a fucking time period where the NA teams literally cannot play vs EU teams you can’t just compare them as an overall fairly
all you can do is weigh up the locked events when comparing the two regions impact on the top 20 ranking of the year
and i mean using the word ‘noteworthy’ in trying to prove objectively why a region is stronger than another is a pretty dogshit argument
