Don't try to argue with local obscurantism, it's widely spread, and it can be fatal for you. Get ready for masses of uneducated people who prefers physical strength, not intelligence.
And, god, please, swear me you are not going to talk anyone about your political views or sexual orientation. These people don't want any changes (if you want changes – you are traitor/enemy etc). They are proud of victory in WW2, tanks, rockets and it's justified price for them not to have okay welfare, medicine, infrastructure, human rights, etc.
As for products (I don't know about prices in KZ), they can be cheap, but check them carefully.
Police can be random. Somewhere they're ok, somewhere they're real gestapo. If you feel pressure from them, try to stand for your rights, record them on camera/live stream and so on.

It really does and it matters, yeah. Forgot to mention, sorry. The more modest you look without some fancy brandwear, the better. It allows you to reduce the unneeded attention.
Edit: I've never been to Yaroslavl, so it can be absolutely random, like anywhere else in the world, and i can't judge for sure. But it's never enough to be on guard

The city itself is beautiful in the center, clean enough in the center of the city, although there are enough old buildings from the Soviet era, they will often appear. Anything further from the city center is where the sleeping areas begin. There are five districts in Yaroslavl. There are parks with ponds in almost all districts from the city center. This is what, in principle, I like, but, of course, there is something that I do not like)

Nothing wrong, I guess, it's deep subject to discuss. I mean cases where Victory is used in propaganda purposes, like it's one of the most important things to keep your in mind.
You missed the point. Nothing wrong on how Russia made a big impact on taking down Nazis and Hitler's regime. You have every right to be proud of it. But, the point was that the current political and propaganda rhetoric uses this WW2 legacy as a smoke screen to hide how in many parts in Russia living conditions, healthcare, schools and infrastructure is 30 years behind many other European countries. Putin's regime is using WW2 as a background story why 15-18 years of kids should be proud of Russia. Why not finding something more recent to be proud of? Like good living conditions for everyone even in Yaroslav, quality hospitals somewhere else than in those couple hospitals in Moscow and St-Petersburgh? Clean and safe environment and not polluted and hazardous wasteland between St-Petersburg and Moscow? That was the point. Putin is trying to control peoples daily topics they discuss by feeding that propaganda how "EU/USA/CIA/UN/FBI/NASA/gays/lesbians/rainbow people/environment activist/human rights activists are trying to destroy and invade Russia and this is why Mr Putin is the only one standing between total destruction and total salvation". I hope you see through this message from Kreml.

Yaroslavl is a chill and beautiful city from what I know. Gopniks don't exist in modern Russia, there still might be some aggressive guys, but this kind of shit has never happened to me, even though I had long hair for the most of my life, and I live in an unknown place in Eastern Siberia. It's not like Brazil or Mexico where you can get stabbed or robbed any time you're outside, but it's also not as safe as it is in Japan, for example, so you should be cautious, especially when you're outside in the night alone.
Anyways, people won't treat you any worse because you're a foreigner. Some will stay neutral, some will treat you even better by reason of interest, especially if you speak Russian. I don't know how it is in Slovakia, but Russian people may look angry to you, because we don't have any emotions shown until there's an actual reason, so we don't just walk around with smiles on our faces like Americans do, we even say, "Smekh bez prichiny - priznak durachiny", which is, "Laugh for no reason is a sign of foolery".

Create a VK account and ask locals, that's the best way to know about the city and make friends before even coming. Each Russian city has groups named like "Rumors [insert_name]" where we share news, for Yaroslavl it's vk.com/yarchat . Just make a post there and I'm sure you'll have dozens of locals willing to help you and even guide you throughout the city.

As you seem to come to study, don't move into a dorm or at least not for long, better rent an apartment with someone from the university.

Well it's quite impossible to bribe an ordinary cop, if you try - you will most likely be detained and nailed with bottle if you know what I mean. I don't know much about narkomans and gopniks, but if someone really wants to find them, he will, ofc. The bottom line is whether you need problems and if you don't, then you can do fine

Yaroslavl is 200 km far from Moscow, pretty old town with historic center and typycal soviet appartment blocks. Russian policemen keep eyes on non-slavic people and check their passports in Moscow metro, for example, if you look like average slav, they will no pay attention to you. And if you are from European country, in will be easy for you to rent apartments for cheap by european standarts in the center of town with no gopnicks around.
I don't know exactly how it's in Yaroslavl, but it's like large city (and one of the oldest) and near to Moscow, so I guess it's going to be pretty much like in every european country
Smth you probably (since I wasn't in Yaroslavl) you should get used to
1. A lot of USSR ugly looking and bad overall buildings
2. It's always dirty af near them
3. You might have some troubles if you've colored hair or really not classical way of looking, but since it's close to Moscow you probably won't (like 99% you won't)
Overall you should be just fine, Yaroslavl is pretty good city
