Tbh I think ZywOo has been given top1. But I will go forward to do some analysis. Both were insane last year. ZywOo has the best fundamentals in the game while s1mple has best mechanics. From what I have understood till now is that HLTV is taking 4 main things to decide this top20 and which are:
1) Elite events ratings ( 8 events)
2) Players rating vs top5, top10, top20, top30,top50
3) Playoffs/Grandfinals ratings
4) mvps/evps
This is most likely 90% of it, maybe some other things but I am not sure about them.
1) Elite events ratings (8 events): hltv.org/stats/players?startDate=2020-01..
s1mple leads with 0.03 rating with more maps played. So this should go to him.
2) Ratings vs Top teams:
s1mple -
1.31 vs top 5 opponents (53 maps)
1.28 vs top 10 opponents (95 maps)
1.31 vs top 20 opponents (144 maps)
1.29 vs top 30 opponents (181 maps)
1.29 vs top 50 opponents (204 maps)
ZywOo-
1.29 vs top 5 opponents (41 maps)
1.29 vs top 10 opponents (86 maps)
1.28 vs top 20 opponents (153 maps)
1.29 vs top 30 opponents (189 maps)
1.29 vs top 50 opponents (202 maps)
Top5: s1mple
Top10: ZywOo
Top20: s1mple
Top30/Top50: s1mple/ZywOo
Overall: s1mple with more maps played and having 0.03 better rating vs top5.
3) Playoffs/Grandfinals:
I do not know the ratings. And Idk either if they chose from every playoffs or just elite events playoffs.
Even tho I have tried to do elite events playoffs rating by myself, and in that s1mple has 46 maps played and ZywOo has 33 maps played, and both have almost same. s1mple just leads with 0.02. But thats only elite event and I tried to do it by myself( So it might be wrong). s1mple has played 3 elite events finals, and ZywOo has played 2 elite events finals. But s1mple has better Grand Finals rating 100% and not only that he was beast on Katowice. So for this category, we do not have a winner for certain.
4) MVPs/EVPs
Even tho ZywOo has 6 MVPs and s1mple has only 2 MVPs. But out of those 6 only 3 are elite events MVPs. While s1mple has both elite events MVPs. One of them being Katowice. And Both have 5 elite events EVPs LOL. And tbh I think s1mple has better evps since he could have won 2 more mvps if navi had won. But I will give this to ZywOo since he has those 6 mvps.
Now again I only did elite events mostly. And s1mple was consistent the whole year while ZywOo had insane peaks. And both have their team rankings 2 and 3 aswell. So its too close.
TLDR: s1mple or ZywOo?

By the way yesterday I watched stew clip where he said if ZywOo does not win, it will be robbery. Like come on s1mple already gets enough hate. Why will be it robbery? Whoever wins it, deserves it 100%. They both have insane stats. And even tho I do not care about somebodys opinion but I just do not understand how will this be robbery if s1mple wins it? LOL

Zywoo deserve top 1 more than anyone else imo
Imagine having 6MVP's and still end up number 2. That would prove 2 things, either HLTV MVPs are a joke or their number 1 ranking is a joke.

device had so much more mvps than s1mple last year and still s1mple got #2 over device. You can be the best player but can not win the events/mvps cause of your team. And 2 of the 3 elite events mvps. s1mple could have won 2 of them if navi had won.

There was a huge gap between device and s1mple rating tho.
Who cars, HLTV ranking this year is a joke anyway. I won't even be surprised if s1mple gets top1 because of Katowice.

are you stupid, if they won't count it will not even be rated during tournament.
Just give it to both. First co-top 1 is something that will assert their playmaking, skills, stats are on the same level.

I literally can't tell the difference. Giving it to both is the best decision, imo. Stats are almost identical. Their impact is insane. They are the main stars, their team didn't win much.

Okay, here's where you are probably incorrect:
1) Ropz had 1.21 (3rd-highest rated in Katowice) and his team was 7th-8th. Vitality was out in 9-12th with very few maps played, and ZywOo had 1.24. If Ropz didn't get Katowice EVP, I don't see how ZywOo with 9th-12th placing can get an EVP there.
2) Following a similar reason, in EPL-12, Vitality was out at 9th-10th, and ZywOo had 1.20. I don't think he's gonna get an EVP there.
3) IEM Global Challenge. Yes, this is indeed a valid EVP for him
4) Yes, even though he was out at 7th-8th in DHM Spring, he could definitely get an EVP because of his rating. I agree

What do you think about playoffs/grand finals rating? Grandfinals rating 100% favours towards s1mple in my mind but I am not sure about playoffs.

3) There was an incomplete compilation by r0flow. And the numbers are pretty same.
Apparently, ZywOo has a slightly better play-offs rating, with lesser maps. Whereas s1mple has a better finals rating. Once again, I can't personally confirm or deny anything :D

He seems to have nearly correct numbers. Once again however, it's not confirmed obviously :D
They didn't took Blast spring finals as an elite event and every top team were there and ZywOo was MVP with good ratings so this is biased selection for sure. And ZywOo has way better playoffs ratings in playoffs of S-tier events.
Also,only difference in DH spring finals and DH fall finals was Navi , this is already looking BS.
Your data for playoffs or elite event playoffs are definetely wrong but the rest comes from featured ratings and the elite filter so it's accurate.
Though, the real data will come out in a few days, I think stats on HLTV in 2020 are not really reliable and they don't disclose all the data they have either so there's no real way to know.

Nah I am almost sure that s1mple has better elite events playoffs while ZywOo might have better normal playoffs rating. But if only elite events, s1mple is ahead even tho its close and s1mple 100% has better grand finals.

Well two other people have done calculations and they have both have ZywOo leading in elite tier playoffs ahead of s1mple ( one from HLTV staff and another from a user) so I think it does tell something.

A friend of mine just sent this to me (s1mple vs ZywOo playoffs). I am quoting:

By the way, I triple checked, ZywOo actually has 39 maps overall at elite events.
EDIT: I missed two maps in the overall map count so it is:
79,14/60 = 1.319 which is 1.32 overall. My bad. But yes, this is the final conclusion now, I counted all maps again, I have literal 10 tabs open in my browser haha.
I think your analysis is indicating that s1mple is going to be ranked #1 because based off of these statistics you can see that they are are dead-even in most categories except s1mple has played better against the top opposition and in the elite events. That is a very important factor in hltv's ranking hence krimz and brollan were on this list. I also think that there is a slight possibility for electronic to be ranked higher than NiKo.

well s2mple had the worst stats in cis rmr out of all tournaments this year so if that is not counted it goes in his favour

S1me for sure though it’s very close, but s1mple is better overall and a bit more consistent. They both would pick top1 in any year except 2018 with those stats. But this time s1mple 1 and Zywoo 2
I think it's super close and either could take it, just depends on how much HLTV weights Katowice being LAN vs the rest. HLTV rankings are for individual performance, Device is arguably more integral to his team's success but isn't going to be in the top 1. Both Zywoo and S1mple could take it, I wouldn't be surprised either way but going by HLTV id assume that they'd weight Katowice performance heavily and as a result S1mple would take the #1.
+1 finally someone smart, and stew know nothing he literally watch zywoo insane clips and thinks he is better, zywoo has better highlights and insane peaks in 2/3 half of year while s1mple was consistent from the start, good analysis btw, whoever wins it would be close, and s1mple has too many haters for real
