That’s different because the whole year is LAN, so it’s fair. There are opportunities to get gold MVPs in other tournaments as well. But in 2020 almost the entire year was online with the single MVP chance. If you’re like ZywOo, your team as a whole held you back in early 2020 while NaVi as a whole was much better.

It's not a problem of tournament organizers, hltv or somebody else - only Zywoo and his team. Fact, that there were very few LAN events in 2020 - is making them more valuable, exquisite and exclusive, not the opposite.
Katowice LAN and tournaments with the same caliber always be much above online events, no matter what happened afterwards.

Several things aren't fair.
First of all NA players in the top 20.
Second Navi couldn't play 3 Europe events cuz of rmr. Meanwhile, zywho had the chance to gain points for ranking.
But LAN is the ultimate competition. Also, we don't talk just about a LAN we talk about 1/2 of the biggest events beside Majors.

CIS doesn't even count for top20 ranking.
Also, they played vs cheating hard Legion.
They won one rmr and one they gave up in playoffs cuz of perfecto covid.

if you want to make it fair between zyxwho and s1mple. You have to erase the Europe rmr events. Cuz Navi couldn't play there it wasn't their choice but the rmr events count and S1mple rmr don't count.
That was at least fair by the numbers.
Another option is you divide their stats through the attending tournaments.

an rmr event is sth different than a random tournament.
At RMR events you you can't change the region but you play an event that is "equal" in another region.
When you don't attend to an esl/blast etc tournament there is no copy event where you forced to play.

Onlina era makes it hard to decide. Statswise S1mple is a little bit ahead. And I personally prefer his entertaining playstyle vs Zywhos.
But It would even be fine if hltv says "they are so close and this shit online era made it harder we give both nr1 spot"
To me that would make sense, but something that makes ZywOo maybe top 1 and not s1mple (although I like both players). S1mple lost three times in an elite tournament to follow against ZywOo (And even with incredible stats, he didn't get the Beijing MVP). It's hard to see someone in the top 1 when the top 2 beats them almost every time.
But other than that, if s1mple is in the top 1, it will still be 100% deserved
