flu has magically been eradicated haven't you heard?
2021-01-21 22:46
I guess because most people wear masks and social distance? "No one" is not correct btw, it's just very few people this year.

1. We test millions of people for covid and almost none for the flu. If we tested on the same level for the flu there would be more cases, even though still less than in previous years. 2. Covid is much more contagious than the common flu Hope this helps

Also, no hands shaking, no hugs (well you don't hug in germany anyway) less public events or almost zero, hand sanitizers etc.

More masks, better hygiene, more distance. But to be fair there still is the common flu.

So masks don't work against Covid?

Not the regular ones no, and not the way how people have been using them.

So regular masks don't work against Covid but work against the flu? I thought they work. That's what we have been told for almost an year now.

We get told many things. All I know is that colleagues of mine still got Corona even though they wore masks and gloves during work.

Making a statement because of one case is absurd. Yes, masks doesnt protect you fully, but the chances decreases significantly.

It's not just one case though, it was 1 example that I saw in my direct environment. If you want full protection from it you need the full suit. Which we don't get in homecare unless it is known the client has it, but often by that time it's too late for the colleagues who were in contact with them with just the masks and gloves. So yes sure it decreases, but not enough from what I've seen.

I can find you in this. Family member of mine who works in elderly care also still got the virus even though they always wear extensive protection

Yer in elderly care (nursing homes) and homecare it really hasn't been the best last year.
2021-01-22 11:58
Nobody ever said wearing a cheap disposable mask will 100% protect you from the virus. It prevents spreading of the virus by a decent amount if worn and handled correctly. A virus can be transmitted through eyes, mouth, nose, etc. to be completely protected from it you have to wear one of those hazmat suits lol.

Yep that was my point exactly. But us in homecare don't have these things so chances are still high enough to get infected when taking care of a client who has it. What I found funny is how the government early in 2020 said masks don't help, hence why we didn't have to wear them everywhere yet. Then later in the year they changed their mind and said yes it works, all wear them! XD

I believe the reason they said it didn't work at first was because there was a shortage of masks at the time and people were buying masks meant for hospital personnel. It's been proven by many studies that it does work to reduce the spread but not by a huge amount and thus it should only be used as a last resort regulation on top of existing, more effective regulations like social distancing.

Yer the shortages of masks was another thing that was wrong on all levels.. Like you said people were buying them while healthcare workers had to go without. I just ment it in the way that the government loses credibility because of how they handle and act with these things. A lot of people see it as a joke now because of it hence why you will have plenty people not following the rules.

Agreed, the government is also acting way too late in a lot of these instances. The thing is, they're taking precautionary steps now to reduce the spread of the British variant but they will still get lots of critique. Whatever they do, it will always be critiqued. Either they act too late or they act while there's no emergency and they take away our freedom.

Yes, you're right about that. I know it's really hard on them too, as they will always be the bad man in everything they do. I'm not sure there is a right way to go about this.

Corona deleted flu, or how to say it Flu is now under a new name named Covid
2021-01-21 23:09
My father is currently with all flu-like symptoms: body aching, fever, headache, cough. His Covid test came back negative today. Common flu still exists, it's just that it is less contagious than Covid and there has been a seasonal vaccine out for a while now so most people are vaccinated.

masks maybe?
2021-01-22 11:28
In Denmark 2016 3,5x more died from the flu than people died from corona in 2020 xddd. maybe we should be in lockdown forever if we go with the same logic as corona
