They nerfed blobbing so it's a bit harder now after 1.30. I tried it out again post-nerf and it's manageable with the Timurid Mughals. Used to be way easier though...

+1 Still easy, but if you're playing a weaker nation and aren't extremely skilled, you need to rely on vassals now. I'm pretty sure the Ryuku one tag is dead bar people with 3k+ hours with tons of in game knowledge.
2021-01-22 14:23
wtf men im so noob my biggest achievement is dar al islam with ottomens
2021-01-22 15:14
It's so easy if you play Mughals Ottomans or Oirat. It's just so boring tho and you consistently have to truce break and kill rebels.

Ottomans are so boring, literally no flavor. At least Mughals and Oirat are pretty entertaining. I only play countries with interesting starts now: Delhi, Theodoro, Byzantium, Austria, England (Easy France PU is pretty cool), etc...
2021-01-22 14:47
1 reply
Yes but Ottomans are OP so that's why people might find them boring. You steamroll from day 1. At least Mughals and Oirat have to struggle a bit at first. But they could use more late game flavor if there's another dlc like cradle coming out.
2021-01-22 14:54
both are nice but different games and offer a lot of complexity in their own way. saying one is better than the other is stupid. regarding eu4 it looks very complex in the beginning but after a short time you realize it's not as hard as it looks like and it becomes pretty repetitive, in civ it's the opposite it's pretty easy to get into but when you go into details it offers so much complexity and it takes a really long time to get in touch with all the little nuances, so your last argument is bullshit but i guess you know that.
2021-01-22 15:43

Ok then let me set you straight. It might look budget because it's a grand strategy game which is entirely built on rolls and events which only occur in text and affect your rolls and "point system" to govern your nation. It's not flashy at all, but the learning curve is much more steep than most strategy games. As such it's also much deeper, but quite discouraging as a beginner. You basically need a friend to explain the mechanics to you or to watch an LP before playing yourself. If that sounds like your cup of tea (and you're willing to get the DLCs, sadly) you're in for >500 hours of play time.

Did you mean 500 hours to beat part of the tutorial?

I didn't want to overwhelm our uneducated friend with the endlessness of the game.
2021-01-22 16:19
I own EU4 (all DLC's) and Civ 6 (platinum edition or whatever it's called). Civ 6 feels like some baby mode tutorial compared to Eu4. I kept thinking when are they gonna let me play the real game and let me off this hand holding mode, but that WAS the real game. Waste of 55 dollars tbh (got it on sale). Felt like I would've enjoyed it if I wasn't spoiled by Ck2 and Eu4.
2021-01-22 14:21
Belive me or not I had 6k hours in civ 5 bnw alone and I was among the best players of this game in the world few years ago. Got massively addicted when I had surgery and was out for few months. Civ 5 is multiplayer is more like complicated chess, and you needed arcade fast clicking skills to be good at this. Played a lot od EU2. tried EU4 but I know that I would need another 100h to figure out basics. Both games are great but way different.

Once you go deeper into Eu4 you'll understand the sheer amount that's there. Do you know you can retreat from battles, do you know how to culture shift, battle reinforcement mechanics, etc....? I've played Civ in the past and learned everything I could, there's straight up not as much there.
2021-01-22 21:25

Civ 6 is shit, best are Civ 2,4 and 5 multiplayer. I know EU4 is far more complex than any newest civilization. And Civ is turn-based game so. You know.

civ6 with gathering storm is rly fun imo, they brought some nice mechanics. wish it would have been like that from the beginning though.

Civ 5 was mediocre game without the dlcs 10/10 health on units was super stupid since you could kill 1/10 hp tank with a pikeman. Brave new world made it tottaly on another level. Didn't even give Civ 6 much chance since I hated the flashy graphics, menu music is great thoo :D
2021-01-23 21:24

ye i know what you mean but there's also a civ5 graphics mod if i'm not mistaken but i don't mind the civ6 graphics meanwhile, it has its own charme. :D civ games always need the expansions since they add so much content that's true man but i think i haven't played civ5 before they introduced BNW. what i really like in civ6 is the city planing with its districts and the way you can specialize them, you have to consider a lot more things and the environment itself is way more important now. (basically all the things Gathering Storm added) I think they plan on bringing corporations back with another dlc. would be rly cool to have an economic win condition as well.
2021-01-23 21:43
1 reply
Well I guess you like the economic win condition since Germany failed the military win condition IRL twice. XD. Might give the full DLCs civ 6 anothoer shot someday since you recomend it so much, but my problem is that I do not have that much time anymore and any civilization game is one of the most time-consuming games you can find.

2021-01-22 14:21
HOI4 is easier to master vs AI because there is only so much cheese you can do and so many countries to min max. However, if you wanna be competitive in multiplayer, you need to invest much more time cause the meta changes often and there is a shit ton of good mods.
2021-01-22 14:23
I'm always too lazy to develop my navy, it's maybe the hardest thing to learn in the game. The Other things can look hard for a newcomer, but still you can quickly learn the main mechanics, especially compared to Eu4

+1 I enjoyed EU4 and other games by Paradox, but I simply had to stop buying them because you miss so much content if you don't pay for their dlcs, and every game they make has atleast 10 or so (each costing around 15 euros).
2021-01-22 14:21

I dont mind DLC's adding more content, the thing with Paradox is that their DLC's include important things that should be in the game by default, if i remember in HOI4, some commands for your army are only accessible in a DLC which kinda sucks

Im also a fan of both Paradox Games and Total War games and I agree. In EU4, the price lock from all the necessary dlcs is so much higher than the price of the game. In TTW, the more recent games are more expansive but when they add new DLCs, the updates that come with them have all the necessary stuff and the DLC, depending on the game, is only adding a faction or a new campaign.

They have a subscription service for 5 dollars a month to play with all DLC's, which is kind of a joke. If that was for every Pdx game, it may be worth it, but just Eu4 not really.

though you should attack them asap, call in castile or burgandy with promise of land (if you're lucky you can do both of them as well as scotland). Let your army be in scotland, your allies will deal with portugal and you will get money and all your cores back with less AE and cost. I usually place one of my diplomats building a spy network in granada to get claims after I've taken cueta from the portugese.

Oh beating France in single player is easy. In multiplayers versus another player, it's not gonna happen lmao. I've barely seen England win unless they call in another player or something. 1v1? No chance.

The game is amazing but very steep learning curve, I have 1k hours in hoi4 and tried the swap to eu4 and holy shit I am a noob. Only recently have I been able to steamroll my rivals but still struggle when other countries start catching up to me e.g. I am England and have France as my junior partner but I can't expand anywhere because the entire HRE is defending all the land arround me :'(

2021-01-22 15:08
I've got like 1000 hrs but only ever played ez nations like Spain France Muscovy etc. Recently I tried doing heir of Timur which was really difficult for me but the constant balancing of truces and the time restriction on conquest was so fun. Mughals are really good, the only thing I found exceptionally annoying was I didn't have the DLC to spread institutions faster so even if I spawned it, it would still take forever to establish and cost an absolute metric fuck ton of ducats that I usually didn't have a massive amount of.

people still play this game? people still buying the DLCs?! played this game with the first few DLCs but at some point it had to stop. It's fun, in the beginning it looks a bit overwhelming but after some time it becomes pretty repetitive as well so the people saying here "oH it's So HarD sO higH iQ GaME" don't know what they talk about. at this point i prefer games like CIV which are chill and complex as well but i don't have to spend so much money on.
