Back to the Future as a trilogy is a classic. It's the best time travel franchise of all time, no question. Charming and rememberable characters, strong and structured storytelling, amazing atmosphere of 50's and 80's and amazing soundtrack. Though the third one, in my opinion, isn't as exciting as the first two are, but it's an overall good finale.

Sure! There are alot of aspects to this movie that ranks it top1 for me. I believe it features all the "hollywood" aspects necessary to make a great piece. The casting is absolutely perfect. The fact that Matt Damon shows up in the later part is also just genious. However what relly makes Interstellar my no #1 is that the physics in the movie adds upp to what humans believe to be possible and true. One of the worlds leading physicists workt closely together with Chris Nolan to make the movie a "true sci-fi adventure." The way space works and the way we can interract with it is presented to us in Interstellar in a way never pictured before. When Matt Damon blows up the mothership for instance, there is no sound for the viewers, only visuals. Why? Becuase sound wont travel through vacuum. There is alot of fascinating details that makes you shiver once you have a little bit of physics knowledge. The only thing that doesnt really add up is when he finally falls through the black hole, (maybe because humans are yet to explain what a singularity is?) From there on in the film it's just an idia of what it might be in the movie.

and fucking Bad Bunny had the most streamed song of 2020, it doesn't mean shit, highest grossing doesn't mean better lol. Sure they're not bad movies, they're very high production, great special effects and stunts and don't require a lot of attention, but there really isn' anything that special to it.

What gives you the impression that OP is not asking for users opinions on which movies they consider important to watch before you die? Of course it's biased. But that is kind of the point of a forum thread. If he wanted to know about the statistically highest grossing movies he would have just googled it. The topic is LITERALLY about peoples opinions on movies. And if there is a movie that everybody seems to like but you don't then the movie is literally "overrated" in your opinion you brainlet

big +1 for me it really is just the kinda movie that lives and breaths that grand Star Wars feel. like while the original 3 are obv amazing, they were clearly not made with how grand the franchise would become in mind at the time. and 3 is basically made with all the size and epic in mind

Hey, I finally watched it. Well, I feel like it is a masterpiece, and I can see that it affected the film industry highly. (It is like "Friends" which was like the start of something in the industry) However, my expectations were higher. I mean can't really say it is one of the best movies. But it is obvious that this movie improved the film industry, which I believe is the reason why it is loved by people, or "overrated" as you say.
2021-02-23 21:40
I just can't get into QT films. Not sure what it is about them but I just don't enjoy them. Maybe it's because it always seems like he does stuff against convention but only for the sake of breaking convention, not because it actually adds value to the film.

Film is a versatile medium, it can be used to simply entertain or it can be a work of art, and everything inbetween. I would argue the ones that can do both are what deserve the title of best movie ever. Either way, this is a good list of directors who can do both quite well, to create an artistically sound movie and at the same time entertain the audience, albeit a bit centered on American cinema. tl;dr: +1

The secret life of Walter Mitty - another great movie a Bronx Tale - imo best 'gangsta'movie I've ever seen

So many Classics in your list. I should have included Wall-e in my list tbh. There are a lot of critically acclaimed movies here that I found very disappointing though: Gravity, Nightcrawlers, 12 yrs a Slave, Dunkirk, The Departed, Seven, Fight Club all didn’t do much for me.
2021-02-23 00:12
2 replies
I thought Gravity and Dunkirk were such a spectacle and cinematography was so impressive I enjoyed them thoroughly... The others I honestly thought were amazing. Depends what your into 12 years a slave is obviously depressing and emotional, and Nightcrawler and Fight Club a little messed up. Of those you didn't like I think Se7en was my favorite.
2021-02-23 01:56

No matter how good the cinematography the story still needs to grip me and those didn't. Seven was so over hyped when I watched it so expectations were high, but it just felt like a generic crime drama to me.

Besides some movies that are listed already like Blade Runner (2049), Star Wars (1-6, Rogue One), Matrix and Godfather i would like to add: - Spirited Away, one of few animated movies that just hit different but you have to like those kind of story - Whiplash, surely the a contender for GOAT movie in the last decade but still quite unknown - Snowpiercer, the movie is so thrilling and had a fresh mindeset that the writers wanted to utilize when it was in production

Tell me a movie with a new world in it. or tell me a movie that includes its own language :) I'm not a fanboy dude, however, lotr is one of the best movies made so far, and I believe millions think the same way. Even its songs are enough to get millions of people's attraction. whatever a guy from hltv says it's overrated so it is lol

"Tell me a movie with a new world in it. or tell me a movie that includes its own language :)" It's fucking cheating because the "movie" is 14 hours long so I'll compare it to something with similar watch time. GoT S1 > LOTR I'm not saying like the book or lore is bad or anything, I haven't read any of it and probably will not. But for average people, the movie feels rushed and way too predictable. There is no character depth or any kind of development. It seems more like a bunch of randos teleporting everywhere.

Firstly, you are comparing a tv series with lotr that's not even appropriate. I watched it like a month ago, still one of the best for me. and yeah you should look at the dates they are released. 2001 vs 2011. Btw, still, lotr is better. 1st season of* GoT was also incredible but can't be compared with lotr.

The Russian movie "Brat" by Balabanov is easily on of the greatest movies ever made. My other favourite one is "Gladiator" with Russel Crowe.

Other people have already suggested some of the ones I thought of, so here's a couple of good war films for you bro as unique suggestions: We Were Soldiers (Vietnam) Hacksaw Ridge (WW2)

The Warriors (1979). Not the best, but very good movie and still fun to watch. Big Bad Wolves (2013). From Israel. Good one. Stranger Than Fiction (2006). With Will Ferrell. Well... for hardcores only: Morte a Venezia (1971).
