Yes. U can try at least. I had exectly the same thoughts before buying it and i havent regret a single minute in it even tho i never was a fan of this kind of games. But its fucking amazing, i had a lot of fun. Cant wait for baldur's gate 3 out of EA.

I wasn't sure about it either but i bought recently and put over 100 hours in a playthrough and I can say it's one of the best games I've played in recent years. No cheap quests, over 100 hours of awesomeness.

one of the best games ever created and I'm not even kidding you can play any way u'd like, for example you could assassinate the whole city and that won't even fail your main quest line.
