Can't wait to grow up
 |
United States zerosh1maa_2
All these teenagers nowadays (im one myself), I'm sitting in school, hearing them across the room just complaining about their futures, stressing, sarcastically over and over. "I can't wait to grow up and get a job and support a family and get debt and drive and .. whatever else makes life harder" They don't even plan for their future. They count smoking weed as a hobby. I'm glad I play video games, I would've never chose coding or ap computer science, which may be my career path. These 14/15 year old's sound so ignorant. They will be the ones later in life that blame the quitting of their own job on the system. Anyone over 18 on this site, what do you do as your job? Do you plan on having a family, or just a girlfriend/boyfriend in general? Do you have a career or do you plan for one? I plan to work with computers, whether that be coding, security, whatever it is. I finished an Essay today in 5 minutes, all they did was watch Tiktok. Rant.

if you don't code yet or can't do anything usefull in computers, you are so far delusional kid, but you seem motivated which mean you probably have a good background, you might be lucky and things in life should go well))

I can code well. I have an A+ (best grade) in both classes. Anyways, if that doesn’t go well I’m almost sure that I can become a manager of some sort. My aunt works at monster energy and I know a lot about it so she could almost give me a free starter job there (temp or somthing)

the thing is not everybody will have the same opportunities. i'm 14 and all of my plans for the future get destroyed because i move every year or two, money is very uncertain, my dad is dead, etc. the people you are talking about are not ignorant... they are worried because life fucking sucks and bad things will ALWAYS happen. i average 95+ in school but i still dont see a future because my entire environment changes every year.

It's good to make plans and have an idea what you want to do with your life so I'd say you're on the right path! Over 18 here, I work as a nurse in homecare. I plan on having a family yes. It took some time for me to fully commit to being a nurse (I struggled during my studies) and I don't know if I will continue my life as a nurse but for the time being I am content.

cool! nursing is a cool job, my grandma does it, and she loves it, she works as the only nurse with a school with 2000+ kids! homecare sounds nice though. do you go into others homes and help them or are you working in a nursing home?

Oh wow, that sounds intense! Respect to your grandma :D I go into their homes and give care there yes :) Sometimes little things like medication or helping them get dressed/showered. But also things like injections, wound care and the odd mental support. It's very diverse :)

You grossly underestimate the people around you and put more weight on their performance in school then you should. Some people really are destined to fail, but most people find stability in life. It's great you have a plan, but it doesn't guarantee you anything. I also think it's really important to realize you don't need to plan out your career anytime soon when you're 15 and you're only missing out on expensive colleges if you don't try in school. I probably had different plans for myself when I was 15, and I was certainly a very different person. A LOT changes in the years to come including well after high school. Those changes also apply to all the people around you, and just because they're dickheads now doesn't mean they're stupid or t hat you're destined to be more successful than them. At the end of the day you're a freshman in high school and you should focus more on having fun now than the future.

Dude, it doesn't pay that well anymore. I will graduate in 3 years and by then the number of doctors in brazil will be double of what it is today. This means that in 3 years all the jobs we have today will most likely be filled and due to offer and demand the salaries won't be too good. I would still do it if I were you but wouldn't expect the high salaries!

I don't really know what to do in the future but I decided that I will do something connected with computers - maybe programming. I can't wait to go trough puberty tho, I am 14 (in December 15) and I am 164 cm tall and my voice sounds like I am a woman, kinda worried that I'll get bullied because of this in high school (I'm in elementary school still, 8th grade, after this year I am going to high school), sometimes when I play CS:GO people are just toxic towards me because of my voice, ngl kinda sucks to be some retarded kiddo.

"I would've never chose coding or ap computer science" Do yourself a favor, and don't be stupid, that's something incredibly dumb to say. You can choose whatever you want, and if you don't like it that's totally fine, but starting with something like that early could give you an amazing life if you like it(and most people that work in it does) instead of working at mcdonalds. Yeah that might be shallow, but the money in hi-tech is awesome, and lots of money gives the ability to do lots of cool stuff. I work as a software developer.

Anyone who "can't wait to grow up" is an idiot, and I was one of them. Having to worry about getting a job is awful, kids don't realize how hard it is to get a good job and how competitive the world is. If you're just smoking weed and being a loser in general, you're gonna be eaten alive in the real world. Stick to comp sci, try to work on a side project, get any kind of experience you can before college, and try to work on a larger project with friends if you can. Learn to enjoy coding. Barely any high paying careers are enjoyable, you think investment banking is any less soul crushing?

Try to make friends from AP comp sci that are good people and have talent and a passion for coding (not necessarily the best grades tbh). Definitely don't ignore everyone. Associating with losers is a net negative for you though. This world is very competitive, there's less and less for the average person by the day. If you think I'm exaggerating you'll realize I'm right once you enter the real world.

I'm 18 and have dropped out of CS college. I am still studying CS by myself and i'll have an internship the next years in alternance (1 week of work 1 week of class). You seem to have the same mindset as many people in the college I was in (very arrogant, demise on other high school classmates etc..) My advice to you is if you have your future planned and mapped out you should go out and have some fun before because it's a lot of work. And you will regret not having fun times when your classmates were smoking weed and going to parties.

CS studies? You study how to shoot headshots or smoke A stairs? and btw, it's a lot of work actually if you want to have fun and go to the parties. But if you start serious in your young age, you'll have easier life then. And believe me, in 30 years you rather regret not doing your best to set up a good start in early twenties than doing stupid shit.

im 14 (gonna be 15 in december). This is my last year on my school (9th grade) and i dont really know what i want to the future, maybe programing? hard question anyway. I have a normal height and weight, my voice is pretty good too, but sometimes i feel like im being to dependent of the people around me, trying to improve in that. My family usually says that i need to go to an amazing "high school" (dont know if thats the best word to ilustrate what i want to say, but i think it is) because my sister got to an incredible one. Anyway, it feels really hard to follow my sister steps. So far my grades have been good, i never got less than 85 in the school bulletin, just getting 85 on my worst subject, geography, apart from this one, my grades are all 95+

yepyep, i heard of that alot as well too. As you grow older there will be more commitments, family, and everything. And from there, its true that you cannot take a big risk/fall if you do, everything goes downhill like a snowball. Life ain't easy unless you're born rich maybe :p
2021-02-25 09:31
I'm 20 in college. 2 years deep learning either repeat of stuff about business I've already taught myself via the internet or stuff I don't intend on ever using, I'm taking an accounting class with a bunch of wanna be CPAs and I have no intention of being an accountant. My advice from someone disappointed in college would be to teach yourself what you wanna learn about. Explore your interests via the internet and use this huge depth of knowledge to teach yourself the skills you want to develop to accomplish what you want. Don't wait for school to teach you what you will need to know go out there and teach it to yourself. One other piece of advice I would say about figuring out what you want would be to work backward from the kind of life you would want and figure out the necessary steps to get there. Also, pay attention to what your mind drifts towards because it that is a clue towards what you are naturally interested in. Be careful of your (information/media) inputs because your input dictate your outputs. Avoid the news, its just people trying to convince you to vote for someone or trying to scare you so you watch tomorrow to find out what happens next. Begin learning about money as soon as possible, financial education, since no matter what you wanna do getting to a point where you are financially free can never hurt especially if your passion isn't very profitable. Seek to enjoy life, not via the numbing of drugs or sex, but via spending time with good people working together to help each other achieve one and other's goals. Always seek to have a reason why your doing something that's good, and don't lie to yourself since that only leads to procrastination. If you ever need to self evaluate don't do it while your negative cause that never helps; go on either a walk or jog to get some endorphins flowing so you can attempt to reason with a more positive mind. Don't spend today day dreaming about the future and don't spend tomorrow thinking about the past. Spend today working towards a better future while being present today. Spend tomorrow working towards a better tomorrow while being present tomorrow. Life will be short so live deliberately, and realize each phase is even shorter so avoid regrets. Seek to master the space in-between your thoughts.

I’m currently studying Networking and IT and because of covid-19 i’m really losing motivation. 100% is done from home and it’s really hard to stay on track because 50% is supposed to be hands-on practical stuff but we can only do it from home. It makes me stressed af. If you are very ambitious then no problem, but you really need discipline and video games have a bad influence imo.
