I only know two other languages proficiently, but as far as I know Spanish speaking countries and Japan both have words similar to AM and PM, though I know in Japan's case it's usually used for train scheduling

instead of using military time or 24 hour clock, day is split into 2 12 hour sections, am refers to morning/night from 12:00 am to 11:59 am then night/afternoon refers to 12:00 pm to 11:59 pm

the 24 hour day is split into two 12 hour sections
AM refers to the first 12 hours which includes night midnight to 6 am, and morning 6 am to 11:59 am
PM refers to the second 12 hours, which includes afternoon, evening, and night up until midnight time at 11:59 pm
So where as in a 24 hour clock/military time 12:59 transitions to 13:00, in am/pm time, it would go to 1:00 pm,2 pm,3 pm etc
and instead of going from 00:01 at midnight, the clock is at 12:01 am
