So I got quaranteed for 2 weeks without being sure if I am positive yet. So i borrowed from a friend a good graphics card (rx580 8gb) but my computer shuts down after playing sometime, I had to underclock it so it wont shut off. I think its becuase my PSU is really weak, its a 25$ psu no 80+ no bronze or better. What do you think? Latest drivers are installed

nah its the PSU man, average power consumption of a RX580 on full blast is about 350W, + motherboard usually between 80W and 150W, processor usually between 80W and 140W + roughly 15W for each stick of ram 550W is way to low, he's killing his PSU like this also NEVER cut costs on your PSU, even if its a cheap rig

you're writing bullshit. while gaming at max settings this thing uses around 200-220w. the wattage is plenty. the gpu is overheating. bad air flow, shitty case etc.

RX580 power consumption wildly varies on which company manufactered it, yes the base model takes roughly 250W in full load consumption, but for example the powercolor ones go up all the way to 380W full load consumption, MSI requires 185W, EVGA 220W it also depends on wheter he is playing a CPU or GPU heavy game you can never rule out overheating tho i agree with that, but i think its the PSU this time, especially since its a very cheap one

the thruth is that the first day I installed the gpu I played 3 hours csgo with no problem, next day I installed rise of tomb raider and after playing 10 minutes PC shuted down. I restarted, lowered some graphics from the game and again after 10 minutes it shutted off. It was really hot also but I didn't play much time to heat it

if u play cs without issues but it crashes on tomb raider the heat is most likely the issue since its running 98-99% on gpu, and u dont need to play 1 hour before it takes hot, it takes couple of mins.

should I set gpu fans on auto from afterburner? If psu is problem it wont do any good though

just look at yt for msi afterburner monitoring setting, play the game and see the temps, if u get anything over or 90 degree then system will shut down and u will see the heat is a problem.

no do what i said lol, u want exact number not a fucking light man. it can go red at 70 degrees and that is still not hot for most gpus, like u came for advice so i gave it to u and use it or dont ask. wtf

ok then I am gonna play the game with the numbers and stuff to see
2021-02-26 12:22
overheating 100% in cs go the gpu doesn't load up that much. it's cpu heavy. that's why as soon as you play tomb raider it shuts down.

These cards are made to work in temperature 100+ degrees. Your psu since having 550W produses hardly 400-450 cause of loses. Your card gets hotter needs more electricity and the psu is incapable of feeding the card's needs. And shuts down because undervoltage can burn the whole system

Parakalo! Take a bigger psu I think your card uses 2 6pins for electricity which means it's really power hungry. something around 750W 800W must be ok

That's even worse! This card needs a small factory to work.

Yeah I see but still.. you can try buy better psu and see if problem disappears. Because either way when you want to upgrade your rig you have to buy a better one imo. Maybe also a lot of dust or bad aircooling?

I have my case open, there are no extra fans. Only 1cpu and 2 gpu fans
2021-02-26 12:12
can be oveheating or weak psu
2021-02-26 11:44
Just take the GPU out. Order a new PSU if you wanna game with it.
2021-02-26 11:53
500w 80plus bronze or white should be enough if you want future upgrades get +600w 80plus gold and check if it have active pfc

yes. the only good card is 3090 kappa. rx580 can run almost all games on high/medium 1080p settings at 60fps. that's a pretty decent card.

"can run almost all games on high/medium 1080p" First of all who still has 1080p monitor ? It's not 2015 anymore, 1440p IPS Panel 155hz, this is the standard nowadays. If you are happy playing triple A titles with under 60 fps on medium then so be it. I enjoy having high framerate with ultra on my 1440p screen with over 90 fps.

Tell it to the 25% of Steam users who still use 1060 / 580 or even 1050 / Ti... You are very delusional if you think 1080p isn't the standard even in 2021.
2021-02-26 12:25

Majority people will of course still use tech from 5 years ago, it was always like that. Don't forget that most steam users are teenagers with no money for a better PC. I'm talking about real world, big companies are all moving away from 1080p and people use 1440p more and more everyday.
2021-02-26 12:36
your logic is beyond retarded. so that we have ferrari's and lamborghini all other brand less powerful cars are outdated and useless? if 5% uses the newest tech doesn't mean good video cards that can play 95% games on medium/high settings are bad. I know you want to flex your video card like a true teenager who probably saved for a card for a year, but for majority of people life doesn't revolve around upgrading pc parts every year looking to gain couple extra fps.

Comparing PC's to cars is stupid, unless you have a mental disability of course, which I suspect you do. First of all everything under ultra looks bad in most of the games, you have to wear glasses to see it but I can see it without them because I have a good eye. Then you have fps, more fps = better experience and that's a fact. I understand that having no money can hurt but you can't deny facts.

you should have provided temperatures. no point in this thread without monitoring the temperatures. use something like HWinfo and/or msi afterburner then report back.

Your psu probably doesn't have enough power to support the electricity your graphics card is needing. And shuts down to protect the whole system from melting.

Change that PSU. A $25 PSU isn't enough for an RX 580. Buy something from Corsair, Cooler Master, be quiet! or Seasonic.

Dude 25$ PSU with rx580 GB it's like a Bugatti engine on a 1960 Citroen. Try to buy a better one
2021-02-26 12:24
As smartest man in this thread i say - Yes. 580 stock - 140W. 580 Undervolt - 100W (around)
2021-02-26 12:25
does your PSU have a manual voltage switch? (110v/220v) if yes, buy another one. those arent supposed to be used with dedicated gpu cards.

Psu not enough, when power spikes system shutsdown. Overheating does not cause power offs instead your gpu/cpu throttles when they meet max temperatures.
2021-02-26 12:54
80+/bronze label isn't a guarantee of a good psu, I've seen many with these certifications not handling well and literally 'exploding' when stressed just pick a corsair, seasonic, evga, or cooler master and you're safe undervoltage is also an option and it works well with rx 580
