ESL groups WTF men?
 |
Canada thechosen11
Can anyone explain to me how these groups were drawn? Not inviting Spirit but give spots to Renegades, TeamOne, FPX, Endpoint, Ence, MIBR is already so bad and now look at these groups: A: Big Heroic Complexity 90% in already, unless OG can have a magical run with a new roster B: Literally group of death. Other than ENCE, the other 5 teams can be anywhere in top 3 of the group... C: Ok how about just don't play and give spots to Navi Furia & Gambit already. The other 3 teams are legit just there to make 6 teams in the group. so terrible D: Just like group A & C, no need to play just give playoffs slots to Astralis, liquid and VP. Overall these group are terrible. Group B is too heavy of a battleground while group A C D is fixed already. Even Extra Salt is better than all these terrible t3 teams...

Also why the hell all BR teams in 1 group and NA teams in 1 group? I dont get it who did these draws???

if you split them over all 4 groups, they will all bomb out in last place & they want NA/SA teams in playoffs.

I don't care if they all bomb out or not. That just means they are not good enough. What is the point of getting as many regions to playoffs as possible just to see 1 sided matches...

Liquid is the only Americas team that is relevant. Brazil love em. Furia love em. EG (Zews and Tarik) love em. NA only hope.

I am assuming the groups are drawn based on ESL ranking which is not great.

what do you mean by that? So it makes sense to get 3 top 10 teams and 3 t3 teams together like group C? Or put 5 teams in top 20 together like group B?...

"Seeding for the groups of ESL Pro League is done based on the ESL World Ranking and independent of partner status." That's on the ESL site for EPL pro.eslgaming.com/csgo/proleague/ And as I said, ESL ranking is not very good pro.eslgaming.com/worldranking/csgo/rank..

exactly people keep saying everything can happen in online cs but i really dont see any way for those 6 teams to make it out of groups... just literally there to make enough number of teams...
2021-03-02 06:15
what do you mean? that is so counterintuitive. youre saying im not a fan because im not crying about spirit being in EPL? I'd love for spirit to be there, but im not going to say ranting about how other teams should be replaced with others, because I will still watch the other teams play.
2021-03-02 06:38
Ence are a partner team, so they have a guaranteed spot in the league. I don't know why FPX were the last invite and not Spirit, it might be because ESL are gambling on FPX wanting to become a partner team in the future because FPX is a big org with chinese money behind them. Or maybe the invite to FPX was sent out before Katowice ended, and last week, FPX were #11 in the ranking while Spirit were only #17 as you can see in here. pro.eslgaming.com/worldranking/csgo/rank..

I am presuming those teams got invited to represent their respective world regions. MiBR have always received preferential treatment because they bring in a lot of viewers. And again, those invites were very likely sent out weeks/months in advance, at a time when Spirit had not shown their current form yet.

I checked - they're not even close to that and I even checked with putting the partners and qualified teams in different seeding pools but that didn't stick either I guess they asked the partner teams when they would like to play - to get teams like Liquid to play in NA before entering EPL.

I wish they were more clear about how exactly their seeding and invite system works, but I guess if they were, their reasoning would not always be very...attractive. Like, having to explain situations like back when they gave their best to keep Virtus Pro in their leagues and tournaments even tho they were way past their prime, ESL probably wants to avoid such stuff.

Soon you might ask them to use the best hosts and shit as well... or let the teams have enough time off to practice and come up with new strats and improve their map pools

The groups were drawn according to the esl rankings. It is what it is. hand-picking the groups would have been even bigger bullshit. Groups are never perfectly balanced, deal with it. Also, there will definitely be some upsets, there always are.

dude its about the show as well. if ESL wants viewers they would have never drawn shit groups like this. Does it makes sense to get 3 top 10 teams and 3 t3 teams together like group C? Or put 5 teams in top 20 together like group B?... Imagine Renegades vs FPX, like 30k viewers? ...

There will be plenty of show, don't worry. You are greatly overestimating the consistency of these supposed 'top' teams. There might be favourites, but FPX/OG upsetting Heroic can very well happen, I mean they just replaced b0rup and niko. Or looking at group D. If EG/fnatic have a good run and Liquid underperform a bit, who knows what will happen. What I am saying is we should wait and see for now, because things in cs almost never work out like you expect them to.

First of all, you are using the wrong rankings. Spirit was #17 just one week ago. The invites get determined way earlier than a single week before the event. Secondly, invites also go out region wise. Oceania (RNG) and SA (mibr) have 1 spot guaranteed, for example. Asia also has one, but due to current covid restrictions they took the best team in their rankings that wasn't already qualified, which in this case was FPX, at rank 11 as of last week.

I mean its pretty confident to put Heroic at 90% after replacing 2 players this close to the event and OG replacing a longtime member and someone like NBK this close too makes me believe Renegades has a chance to make it out of group A

Anyone thinking that G2 is a good team is delusional also Mousesports haven't shown anything good in the first tournament. So that's already 3 teams that shouldn't make it through. Just like in group C.

This shit and people don't understand why stats don't matter so much.. Because sometimes you get s1mple being able to farm c9 team one and mibr and Astralis and VP farming group D

And that would reflect in specific stats as well. In the case you highlight, only his top30/top50 stats would be good. Also, we don't have 24 top class teams. So, this is bound to happen.

liquipedia.net/counterstrike/ESL/Pro_Lea.. Astralis, coL, ENCE, EG, FaZe, Fnatic, G2, mousesports, Na'Vi, NiP, TL, Vitality - all EPL member teams BiG, Heroic, FURIA, VP, OG, Gambit, C9, FPX - invited through 'ESL World Ranking' pro.eslgaming.com/worldranking/csgo/rank.. MiBR - invited because they are the highest ranked SA team outside of the 8 teams already invited RNG - invited because they are the highest ranked OCE team outside of the 8 teams already invited Endpoint - invited for winning ESEA S35 EU Premier Team One - invited for winning ESEA S35 NA Premier Team Spirit's ESL ranking must have been too low when they drew groups

#31 You don't have to go on a rant like this without knowing how the invites are determined. I too am salty over the fact that Spirit aren't gonna be there but back when the invites were being rolled out, Spirit wasn't that high in their own rankings. You also need to give some representation to other regions of the games, even though there aren't strong teams there, hence why MIBR, Renegades etc are here. Some invites to the winners of the qualifiers etc. FPX weren't gonna be here either but any regional team of Asian scene wouldn't make it so they handed their place to them. Only this one is a little questionable. The group draws too are according to their own ranking, and group draws are always shite as well.
2021-03-02 07:16
Astralis so lucky they almost always avoid NaVi in Groups
