If you are interested in fantasy books and have already read LoTR, I recommend Brandon Sanderson's books. Now that is some good writing.

Id understand how in the later movies they can teleport anywhere like doesnt that completely defeat the purpose of anything. And a gun would be so much more effective than magic

There are areas one cannot teleport to such as Hogwarts iirc. Besides, it's not something one could do mid-fight. Also, magic can probably block bullets.
2021-03-06 12:04
it would be okay if the magic worked consistently and was applied logically but for some reason the good guys refuse to abra kadabra the bad guys (probably because then the movie would be over) there are some harry potter fanfictions that do this though, harry pother and the methods of rationality was fucking hilarious

one of the best series ever made especially for kids there arent better movie
2021-03-06 11:56
Overrated but nothing comes close to it in terms of story and visuals at least for me. I don't know how hard is it to make a franchise but I have so many ideas, surely people in movie industry can come with something, when was the last time we got something decent ?

Harry Potter is good for kids. Letting the character grow 1 year in each book/film is brillant, if you pace the kids reading/watching accordingly. No good for a 12-yo to binge the whole series. Me and a couple of other teachers will be working with 6th graders in an England/Harry Potter theme at the end of this month, across a number of english, danish, history and gym classes. There are lots of small inspirations - like the mirror that shows what you desire the most. Harry sees his parents, Ron sees himself as team captain. Also lots of mythical creatures to look up. It also has some moral lessons along the way, like "Not judging a book by it´s cover". Last month I built the LEGO Hogwarts Express for myself, brillant model. The books are not really my thing. More into traditional fantasy, like LotR. But I think the films are really well made. One note on Fantasy books: DON´T read Game of Thrones, as you will surely regret it. First book is good, but their quality decline as quickly as each new book grows longer. Last book is 1200 pages, that should be boilt down to 200.

gotta disagree on got being too long, clearly you never read the whole wheel of time series lol. or terry goodkind. also in lotr every book of the trilogy is in 2 parts of 500-600 pages each and the first book literally starts with 150 pages of hobbit history and genealogy and that is considered the best fantasy series ever.
2021-03-06 13:22

The basic LotR is 3 x 600 pages. You can then chose to add all sorts of things on, but basicly 1800 pages. There are a couple of boring parts, particularly as you follow the long walk of Sam and Frodo, but I wouldn´t cut any of that. I just skip a few parts when rereading. GoT is at least twice as long and unfinished. Should never be over 2000 pages, not counting prequels and spin-offs. That is just my opinion, like you´re free to have yours.

How the hell are the movies ''well-made'' lmao, maybe the first and second one, from then on it's a total drag race. 6 in particular had 70% of the book missing, instantly from one scene and action to the next, pacing and plot just all over the place.

I agree that the storytelling quality drops in the final films. Lucky for me, I mainly focus on the first ones, as both the kids in my family and the kids I work with are 10-13, so I see the films through those eyes. I´m talking about the visual/technical part, when I say well made.

The story in the books is actually imo the best story ever written. The movies don't do it justice.
2021-03-06 14:01
Binged the books reading them 1 a day when 4 was the newest one, so I was like 12-13 years old at the time. Forgot about them once there was nothing new to digest, until EIGHT YEARS LATER I'm seeing this punker girl in another town and she wants to see the fifth edition movie, so we go see it and I fall in love again. This time I read all the books...except the newest one wasn't out yet, so I made sure to buy it immediately in the original language once it came out. Also watched all the movies with friends and loved it all. As said, the books >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the movies, but this is true with almost every movie...except Fight Club.

2021-03-06 13:23
yeah i got the first couple books when i was 11 and they came out around then so i was in the right age bracket. it was alright but i kinda stopped caring by book 5 or 6, it just got boring and i was too old for it at that point.
2021-03-06 13:19
Yes. I enjoyed the books when I was younger. I'm 27 now so I was bang on the age for reading them back when they came out. I've actually recently been re-watching the movies, having not really seen them much since they first came out, and I've been really enjoying them, much more than I remember.
2021-03-06 13:33

I watched the first movie and while it started off with a really enjoyable first half, the moment that ogre in the bathroom came around is when it started to go downhill. The acting was atrocious, especially in serious moments. Acting for me either makes or breaks a movie/show. I know they were kid actors, but still.
