None of those. "Fluke" as a term shouldn't exist.

Yeah you need more than luck to win a tournament, especially a major. But some teams don't have prior success before having one miracle run and no success afterwards which is what people refer to I believe.

call me biased, but i think the C9 major win wasn't them playing well but rather Faze playing bad, especially after that 15-11 scoreline

Not necessarily fluke just they had a much easier run than all the other teams who won a major had, all the way to grand final only good team they played against was astralis in semis. They played vs mouz, g2, and washed vp with pasha to make it out of groups, then a nice easy match vs fnatic in quarters

2021-04-07 17:55
they got rekt both times by fnatic, first time was like 32-8, second time they blew out fnatic on cache but the other 2 maps were blowouts too

you said they made the playoffs twice in a row before their win, sure but that doesn't mean that they weren't a fluke win at pgl krakow which is proven by the blowout victories by fnatic who couldnt even reach the final at either major in which they beat gambit

After 2016, Liquid was in the Playoffs only three 3 times and lost all of them in one sided match. What it means then?
2021-04-07 19:02

one sided match LOL, map 2 of both ence/astralis @berlin went over 26.5 and astralis are the GOAT team, gambit never went over 23 rounds in the maps they lost to a fnatic that lost to liquid in 2016 and lacked jw and flusha in 2017

Gambit or C9. It's honestly extremely close.
2021-04-07 16:35
1. C9 2. Astralis atlanta 3. Luminosity mlg I know, how it sounds... with #2 and #3, but Luminosity was down 15 9 and 15 6, Liquid literally threw away that map.... Astralis, down 0 7 on final map... VP just choking, second map Overpass was 14 16 and it was somewhat of a choke from VP.... I'm not saying that Astralis didn't deserve to win, but....

Well first of all Kjaerbye MVP - that guy went to being utter shit straight after the major (and shortly after -kjaerbye +magisk happened) and Kjaerbye never got even close to the form he had in major Whole VP vs Astralis match was a huge shitshow and a rollercoaster of emotions for both teams and fans (i'm not fan of either team), Dupreeh if I recall correctly won 1v1 clutch (post plant) with broken mouse, just baiting peek since his left click didn't work from idk who was it... pasha, neo... idk, around 14 14 VP lost round to a time on second map, third map 7 0 lead for VP and Glave calls rush A and they win rush... at 14 14 or 15 14 (on 3rd map) it was another just go rush strat and that's how they win the match... Semi final vs fnatic (which was a shitshow team with all the roster changes) first map which ended 19 16.. at 17 16 or 18 16 fnatic lost like 4v2.. and they threw plenty more rounds just like that... I am not denying any win from astralis when they had Magisk, that 5 players that was a great team.. (well, still is), but Astralis with Kjaerbye... that's just bullshit
2021-04-07 16:52

kjaerbye wasn't the mvp though, he just got it cause he was good in the final, it should've been device. and kjaerbye was a decent player in 2017. and astralis with kjaerbye even almost had an era close to the time when they won a major.

I think the Major format has no space for "fluke", all the teams that won had to play a lot of matches and won, there is no "fluke".

Fluke term makes little sense, if it happened, it had to. Once the question of cheating drops out, a fluke has no room to be.

people say fluke when a team was not very good prior to the major and dropped off after the major. Basically, the major run was a fluke for them, they were lucky. C9 and Gambit take the cake here for sure.

Doesn't matter what was before or after, during the tournament in question, they were the best and they proved it in action. Everything else means less.

they call it a fluke because it seems like Gambit/C9 won the major by having a lucky spree, IT was a 'fluke tournament' because after they went back to their previous form and weren't successful. Im not trying to even take away from the teams, but its a fact that these were their only crazy good runs. they weren't teams that stayed after and dominated or even stayed in tier 1 lulw

Irrelevant, during the Major they were in the exact same circumstance and they performed the best there. When the tournament ends, it has no impact on its result, in the slightest.

no point in repeating oruselves, I said what a fluke meant and their major runs felt like flukes, as they fell off after. TO me, that is what a fluke is (and to many others obviously.) we disagree on the definition of the term and that's it /closed

I don't disagree on its definition, I don't really care about it at all. I'm saying the whole idea of 'flukes' is plain silly and it's just an attempt at excusing the losers and belittling the winners. It has no freaking point to carry on.

2021-04-07 17:51
Well if i have to say any, i would say gambit or cloud9 but majors are the biggest event of the year, so if you can call that a fluke then sure, but you cant just win a major by a fluke, every player that won it earned it
2021-04-07 18:03
Krakov 2017. Boston 2018. Both flukes since they could never replicate those 1 off wins.

Saying someone winning a major is a fluke, especially the underdog stories they went all the way from the qualifiers beating these teams to win the most important tournament of them all while every great team so much teams are fighting for it so how are any of these flukes they won they were the best team do you think some day they were godly no this required skill

Cloud9 and the only reason I say this is because that should have been a win for FaZe 100%. Of course C9 had a rough way into the final (from 0-2 beating teams like G2 and SK). Gambit vs Immortals both teams were on equal terms almost, in fact they were the finalists of some Dreamhack Event (Austin I think?) and you could argue that the Krakow final was 50/50. At the same time Gambit on that Major beat Astralis who had destroyed SK on quarter finals.

But it's not a matter of who had the easier path, at least for me, is which finalist team suffered the bigger upset. Clearly FaZe, who were in like a 15-9 lead on inferno, should have taken the match but choked.
