Couple of suggestions

Hello, mods, admins and developers of HLTV. Inspired by this thread, I want to address upgrades that could benefit HLTV as a community. 1) Betting ads and betting overall (inspired by hltv.org/forums/threads/2441214/betting-.. ) I know HLTV needs to make money in some sort of way, but I can't stand opening HLTV and all I find is betting ads and betting websites that fill 50% of a match-page before the comment section. Maybe make a separate page with the betting odds or make it occupy not as much space? Or let us, users, have the chance to hide it in the settings. Adblock will remove the background and header ads, but it won't remove the match-page ones. 2) Block users It's not just addressed by me. I guess a lot of users asked for this. The option to block someone, to both hide their comments and/or topics but also to disallow them to comment on my threads and PM me. 3) Follow users (inspired by hltv.org/forums/threads/2441059/favorite.. ) Introduce some sort of way to allow us to follow users, so we know when they make a thread. Also display how many (not who, just how many) followers and following users you have on your profile, below the "fan of" section. That would appear on the notifications as "*user* made a new thread!" for example. 4) Widen the main area of the website The website has a huge ammount of negative space on each side. Widening the area would make space for more content to be displayed side by side or in bigger proportions. Would also help with comments not getting deformed after a certain number of comments. Making the replies narrower (removing the line and relying solely on visuals) would also improve this aspect. 5) Allow for username changes every 6 months/1 year I guess there's people that would like to change their usernames. I guess there's a way of doing it, at least that's the conclusion I take from this user ( hltv.org/profile/803733/wr0ng-choice ) that was called IJustWantThisCurseToEnd and is now called Wr0ng_choice. Make it so that users are allowed to change their username upon a certain period of time (being it once every 6 months, 1 year, once and never again, after being on HLTV for a certain period of time). 6) Delete account Add an option for the user to delete his account. That would 404 all his threads or at least hide his username. Just my two cents. I'm appealling the community not to be disrespectful, so the staff can actually take a look at the thread and give their input or take it into consideration. Thank you for your time, Henrique

+1 As for username changes maybe HLTV could setup a system like Steam, where you can see on the user's profile all the usernames he has ever used? I would also add a 'high report alert', displaying the username in a different color or with a flag, perhaps, to indicate that this user has a high report count within a short period of time

Didn't thought about that. Sounds fine to me! As for the high report alert, I was to include automatically "timing out" (banning) users after they get blocked/reported X times in a short period of time. That could lead to people reporting others without reason tho(( Thank you for your input!

False-reports leading to false-positives would be murder to keep track of, though.

I guess false reporting already happens today, but yes good point.

I sent a PMto Jonathan E. earlier on today because I accidentally reported a post scrolling through my phone. So I informed that it was a complete error on my part, ignore that report and I apologised. If that happens and users aren't informing the admins about it, that could also lead to disarray. Otherwise I think it's a solid idea on paper if utilised and implemented correctly. :D

This could be solved by saving the state of the report and changing the button to 'remove report' once you already reported. Most users wouldn't do what you did because it is annoying to go out of your way for a 'single simple misreport' or they would assume that a single report is harmless. My point with false reporting is for those that report users or threads based on: - not liking OP's opinion - misreading and thinking OC is a bait - personal feuds One of the reasons why regular 'report systems' fail is because most users simply do not trust the system (not reporting when they should or overreporting out of dankness). When reporting, the user expect to notice SOME sort of action or at least an explanation as to why the report didn't result in ban/deletion. By reworking this system HLTV could even improve transparency and give followup information of your reports. IMO This should lead to a 'prevention before punishment' system.

I agree and yes, reports are annoying to deal with. Most report systems don't specify the report, leading the person sifting through the reports to often decide for themselves without context. Report systems that ask for a specification of "Why did you report this user?" is a lot better in that regard, as there is a trust in knowing exactly why you reported someone, making the job easier for the mod/admin in question. Overall a great suggestion to aid moderation, friend. :)

1) Adblock doesn't remove the odds section on the match-page. 6) Are they force to add it? Or they need to delete a person's account when asked to? Thank you!

1) yeah you're right at that but i personally never thought that this section is annoying, however those betting related background images on the whole sites are incredibly annoying and deserve to get blocked 6) its probably enough for them to delete a persons account and every data related to it (such as every post of the user) if they can manage to do that manually in a reasonable timespan. still would make sense to automatize it

About 6) I think that HLTV stores little to no 'personal' data, only your email for verification purposes. This would mean that they do not fall under the law.

Suggestion number 2 would not work at all... it has been tried and tested on this site before and the forums were an absolute nightmare: Users blocking each other for simply having a different opinion, there were no discussions to be had, the only way to contact users was via the guestbook at that time, it was being abused and wasn't being utilised correctly as you would expect -- it was havoc. This negates the entire purpose and premise of a forum that exists through the difference of opinions. No user should have that much power...

You can do that on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Not allowing people to interact with your content. Idk, I feel like in such times it wouldn't be as negative as before, but I'm not old enough on HLTV to speak in the behalf of everyone. Thank you for the time to read and write a response. Appreciate it.

Some good suggestions, some meh ones. Things I'd like to see is a clearer rules list, and when you get banned/comment removed you get notified in some form of why, so you know not to do it again/what kind of thing isn't really accepted (for the more vague cases). Another thing I'm surprised that isn't here is the option to edit the original post, I know I've seen people wanting to edit their posts but can't so they end up sticking a comment somewhere down below where nobody can see it.

I don't agree with editing posts, tbh. Would agree if you could fix/pin your comment at the top. I used to have Twitter and people would ask for the option to edit tweets but it can be used with malicious purposes. Thank you, appreciate it! Have a good day, fellow american.

"I want to address upgrades that could benefit HLTV as a community" he doesn't demand anything though. Just sharing ideas - how can that be a bad thing?

Who's demanding changes? The thread is literally called "Couple of suggestions". If they don't like them, sure, I'm no one in the community, even less in the staff. I'm just sharing ideas. You prefer to use a 4:3 website where text often times gets deformed than to accept people's input on things that COULD (making it caps so you don't attack me for not putting emphasys on words that need them) benefit the site and the community. You've been here for 6 more months than I and you're acting entitled when there are accounts older than you supporting the ideas or making constructive criticism, while you're just "uh duh you want this".

Okey im sorry. Should have said "suggest" instead of "demand". I don't like most of the changes you suggested as you can probably see. I have been here longer than a year. As I said I just don't like that you come here and after few months you want to change this site without thinking long-term effects.

I don't, I don't know much about code or database, but maybe it could work like the "fan of" thing? Where you just search for the nickname of the user and then it converts it into a number? For the notification part, yeah, probably hard to do. But as I stated, just some suggestions, they are not forced to implement any of those, I'm just sharing ideas. As for deleting the profile, #7 and #28. I forgot that they'd need to, according to GDPR. Edit: nvm, #44 and #47 clarified my last statement and proved me wrong.
