Dog Cancer Help
SPUNJ |
United Kingdom MysteriousGeorgeofAfrica
Hi all, Firstly, Admins please don't 404 this, it doesn't break any of the forum rules hltv.org/forums/rules My dog has recently been diagnosed with cancer (soft cell sarcoma) and her treatment is expected to cost upwards of £5000 which we can't afford and her insurance won't cover. She's only 8 and she's got a lot more ahead of her. We've started up a GoFundMe to try and crowdfund her fight against cancer and would really appreciate anyone sharing it. We want to get as many people as possible to view it to give Rosie a chance. gofund.me/0bfe9891 Thank you for reading and supporting

Honestly find it disgusting that your insurance will only cover 1k. Like idk how much it costs for insurance but if they refuse to cover something like cancer wtf you paying for. Hope everything turns out okay man. My dog had to have surgery and luckily we were able to afford it but it was a really difficult decision to make

Is a medical insurance on a dog common? We spend multiple hundred euros on ER nights for my dog and never got a penny and we usually have insurance on everything.

Its kinda weird here with pet insurance. Usually they wont pay out for all of it. When my mum had a vet out for her horse the insurance covered the fee for the vet coming out and I think she had to pay the rest. Note - Call out fee for a vet is something like £40/£50 and then there is another charge you have to pay for the vet. The call out fee is just for the travel so in total the insurance payed £100 ish and then she payed for the medication

Vets are bleeding people dry... They know many pet owners would spend their last pennies on their beloved friends and they exploit that imo. No way that keeping a dog in over night warrants a bill of 300-400 Euros.

Honestly people go to the vets over pointless things sometimes. My grandfather had a German Shephard (schäferhund) and told it would live until 3 or something and then it got hit by a car, he stayed with it over night and my grandma is a nurse so they looked after it and it lived until around 11 which for that breed it good
2021-04-13 19:43
Actually the prices are high because its not a tax paid service! No goverment support for vet care! If you didnt have universal healthcare you would pay the same for yourself! Medical is incredibly expensive!

There are a fair few charity options we initially looked into like the PDSA, but none that will be able to cover her treatment as they can't afford the right machinery to do CT scans or radio/ chemotherapy, which are some of the biggest parts of her treatment

Actually, the cost of things goes up when government provides it. Health care would be much cheaper on average if we all paid for it ourselves.

This is not true! All reports show the opposite! The US pays way more for their healthcare system than comparable countries with universal! Countries with universal pay less!

The US is not a free country without government interference. The US pays a shitton for everything the government touches because they are corrupt and on the payroll of billionaires.

So provide evidence for your claim then! Where is the proof that universal healthcare is more expensive! Data please!

I asked for evidence that universal healthcare would be more expensive than a direcr payer system! This paper does not touch on a universal healthcare system at all! All it does is critique specific US regulations! Regulations that vastly differ from the systems employed in most countries! The paper even states that its hard to make a real case for direct payer systems because of its obvious downsides! So either you didnt read the paper or you are just joking!

I dont know if you will be able to acess the full text! But the latest meta analysis on this subject found higher expenditures for the system you propose! pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30193174/

Not common, usually you do insurance in case the dog get lost and ends up on a car crash or he bites someone or other dogs, but a medical insurance is usually too pricey for what you're gonna use it.

if the treatment costs 5000 and insurance covers 1000 of it, shouldn't the limit be at 4000?
2021-04-13 18:39

Treatment is £5k at the minimum and it'll be more depending on how far the cancer has spread. Also the insurance will only refund us money spent on her up to £1k and we're only setting this up because we're struggling financially atm

my dog has passed way last year due to cancer and I let her go by euthanasia its definitely your choice on whether u want to be with the dog longer but after the cancer treatment, you need to know that there will be many side-effects and your dog will not be able to live comfortably and it only extends the dogs life for around few months typically. anyways i know how horrible is it to see your dog with cancer.....stay strong friend

We've caught it really early so there's the possibility of a good recovery and more than a few years after treatment. So far she's not in any pain, so we want to do what's best for her as her condition changes.

I'm a broke college student so all I can do is bump. Hope your dog pulls through. Also you can try reaching out to them: twitter.com/dog_rates Every Friday they do a fundraiser for dogs of similar fate (sometimes even two at once) and they are fully funded within one hour or so. Obviously it's hard to get featured, because you can imagine there's a lot of people asking, but you never know.

Sorry about your dog. But these Gofundme “things“ tilts me alot. If you love your dog so much, how about you pay at least some of the bill yourself, instead of asking for the full amount to be donated. Dont give me some crap about you not having any money. Its irresponsible to have a pet if your budget is that tight.

It's true tho. Dogs deserves best and people who can't afford to give their dog good food, place to live and alot of time, it's best to not get a dog. The person who's going to regret it at the end is the owner for not providing their dog with quality food and time when their dog passes away....and the person who made this post is probs feeling what he coulda done better. It's not about privilege, it's about taking responsibility when you decide to take a living creature into your family.

Everything we have is going towards the dog atm. We were in a situation where everything was okay and financially stable and able to start saving until I lost my job a few months ago. I lost the job because I've been off sick since September 2020 and am still not able to work. We'd have to pay right after the treatment. Some places offer payment plans provided you pay a bulk amount up front which we'd likely opt into despite the potential of being charged interest.

So it means that the treatment costs 5000 euros and you are asking us to pay for everything? Seriously, you don't even have 100 euros to help pay? Even I, who am Brazilian with a devalued currency, can pay 100 euros. If you love your dog so much, get a loan and pay part of the treatment and leave the rest to the gofundme. This smells like scam

Wow, I have a very similar dog, nearly identical actually. She's also 8 and her left arm has recently gotten a lot bigger. We think it's cancer aswell since her whole behaviour has changed to the point where she barely wants to walk anymore. Getting her a biopsy tomorrow, I'm praying its not cancer but it's not looking good. Kind of scary how similar our dogs look and that they're the same age. Good luck anyway, I hope u guys raise enough money for her treatment.

It was the initial estimate given by the vet when we first spoke to them. But it really all depends on how the CT scan (£1800 roughly) goes as that’ll show the extent of her cancer. After that we can adjust the goal from there. If it’s possible to remove all the cancer through just surgery it’ll end up a lot cheaper than having the surgery plus radio/chemotherapy, but it’ll still be v expensive. We’re trying to prepare for the chemo route and I hope you understand that

Thank you, every bit of engagement helps this gain traction :) Before she got cancer, she'd be expected to live anywhere from 14-16 (currently 8). We caught it early, so it depends on things like how far it's spread, but just the surgery to remove the large lump on her bum alone would give her another 2-ish years of good quality life. The insurance covers up to £1,000 per condition and they won't budge when it comes to cancer, the CT scan alone is £1,800 and depending on the outcome of that, we'll be adjusting the goal as £5k was an initial estimate given to us by the vet.

My cat is fine, thank you. :) Thankfully it wasn't cancerous, as that was obviously a concern. I have five of them and two of those are aged: 11 and 13, quite old cats. I know the inevitable will happen eventually but until then, all we can do is make their lives the best they possibly can be. ^^ With Rosie, in spite of this unfortunate circumstance, I know she will be the happiest dog she possibly can be. <3 I'm afraid I cannot donate but I will wish you, your partner and gorgeous Rosie all the best. <3 Another big bump from me, friend. :)

so u gonna wait till that gofund to reach 5k and then do surgery?
2021-04-15 07:59

We're gonna do every step as soon as we can afford it instead of waiting. So we've already raised enough for the specialist appointment which is now booked for early May, and after that we'll need to do a CT scan to see how far the cancer has spread (if at all). Funnily enough, the surgery could end up being cheaper than the radio/ chemotherapy if the cancer hasn't spread much. If the surgery can remove the cancer with clear margins, we won't need chemo/ radiotherapy and we'll be able lower the goal to around £3,000 Hope this helps <3

I might sound like a dick, but I have a general rule of not donating to such things. I see 100 similar posts each day, and I just feel like it's not fair donating to one and not another, I prefer doing my donations personally. Sorry, best of luck to you! I shared.

My dog has had a chance for 5 years and that doesn't bother her at all. She's a 14-year-old Labrador who still plays catch and runs with me. If the chance is not life-threatening then you don't have to worry about it. My dog has breast cancer and a tumor growing on her neck. It disgusting to look at but doesn't bother her.

Our dog is only little and she’s 8. Her life expectancy before cancer was is 14-16, so if this is removed quickly, we should still be able to have another 6-8 years with her. Just the surgery alone would give us another 2 ish years of good quality life. As she’s only a small dog, any growth/ spread of the cancer would impact her more than a larger dog as it’ll end up covering a larger % of her body. Also the type of cancer she has is soft cell sarcoma which is known to spread aggressively, so we want it gone ASAP before it’s life threatening.

He's got a good point but it really depends on the kind of cancer a dog has as well as the age and breed of dog. I explain it a bit in #457 <3

mammary gland cancer and tumor on her neck it definitely does bother the dog, they just dont show it. Also, its great you're doing all this but like go get a job so you can actually take care of atleast some part of it. I have no clue how old you are but surely you could have atleast had the CT scan fee saved up, already had the CT scan and decide where to go from there. Its definitely too late but don't get excited and lazy because you're getting 100-200euros a day here because that can definitely slow down and you could not have enough money.

Alright, good to hear he's doing well. It really depends on the type of cancer, age, size, and breed of dog as well. I explained it poorly in the bottom half of #457, but it's good enough for you to get the gist of it :)

Dogs are really saints of this world, when we got the dog we still have now, she had a rare disease making it so her jaw was hurting a lot while growing, which made the vet say we should put her down. I don't recall how it happened, but today she is alive and well at 11 years old, and since back then she has enjoyed life with no hurt. You seem very deserving of your dog, which most humans aren't. I'll donate now after writing this, and bump. Good luck with her, I wish you all the best <3 <3

The specialist consultation is £351 and we were quoted £1600-£1800 for the CT scan, so yeah, fingers crossed we can do this. We're also posting updates on Rosie on her TikTok @rosieposiethedog and I'll be posting threads after each stage of treatment with updates and photos :D Thank you very much for the kind words <3
2021-04-15 21:00
I made an update thread (which is locked for some reason), and in case you missed it here's a brief summary. Including the crap insurance cover, we can just about afford both the CT scan and Specialist appointment which is booked for a few weeks time. I'll probably be posting another update with a few videos etc around that time :D

I'm only using the GoFundMe page as other people have tried to post a few scam links. The scam links have since been removed, but we still want to have all the progress in one centralised place. Don't worry about donating, please just consider sharing it around or coming back to bump tomorrow instead <3

Owning two dogs this type of story makes my heart bleed. Especially because if one of my dogs would get cancer I wouldn't be able to pay for it either. Unfortunately, I'm a poor college student who barely comes by with my girlfriend and the only thing I can do is bump this post. This makes me feel so helpless, I really would love to donate and actually help someone.

I am sorry to hear. I'd suggest you to get some CBD edibles, because this will most likely kill the cancer cells from growing and spreading. I am not too sure if you can use sodium-bicarbonate on dogs, but sodium-bicarbonate is a natural cancer killer. The cancer is killed within 2 weeks. Why doctors don't use it? well... sodium-bicarbonate costs $2,50. They do not make money from it.
2021-04-20 13:19

Thank you for the concern, but there's no evidence that CBD cures cancer and most of the claims regarding sodium bicarbonate run contrary to the basic principles of oncology and microbiology. CBD is great for cancer symptoms, but doesn't actually cure it. Also, if there was irrefutable evidence that either of these would cure cancer, the NHS would be using it on humans to save as much money as possible :/

They will not because they can’t make money off it. Curing cancer for 2.50$? Hell yes. This is a systematic slavery. Instead of treating everyone good, they give them more medicine and more medicine that does damage the body. Follow the money and you’ll see how corrupt this whole shit is. They will all be executed for crimes against humanity.

I'm sure you asked for the best price offer from different vets and 5000 pounds is best which they can do. Here are some links I know not every single one of them is for the UK specifically but I hope these can help. I recommend to contact several different associations to ask for financial help or financial aid to help fund this treatment and post this on several different sub reddits where animal lovers can see it. thepetfund.com/for-pet-owners/the-pet-fu.. animalfoundation.com/get-pet-help/pet-re.. dogtales.wordpress.com/funds-for-pet-eme.. petcancerfund.org vet-fund.org/
