so what? this is not only against UEFA, but against everything the sport represents, including its fans.
2021-04-19 16:29
No dude... UEFA's plan in 2024 was to have some teams that are "stable" teams, aka top teams get extra chances to qualify. But they could still get relegated if they played really bad and failed all their chances to qualify. In super league, the teams has a permanent spot
2021-04-19 22:21
Perez, Glazer's family and Agnelli are killers of football. They are more likely to chase money than spectacular football.

Not really. Nothing will change, they will just replace Champions League with Super League and make much more money.

As a Man Utd fan I can say that Glazer's family (Theyre Jewish) and other club owners making money. What TV will pay for the match of any Burnley or Alaves? They need a show And such giants will be in the same league.

Yeah but the 5 clubs that will have to qualify for the super league will also make way more money than what they used to make from champions league.
2021-04-19 06:55
Leeds beat man city like a week ago, Newcastle just beat West Ham (I don't think anyone outside of the top 6 has beaten them this year), Fulham just drew with Arsenal - that's literally the best thing about the Premier League, it isn't a league with 4 decent teams then the rest just fodder, anyone in the list of 20 can show up and beat anyone else. P.s Should United even be in this league, until this season they were pretty shit for best part of the last decade.

A franchise league vs a league that you have to qualify for.
2021-04-19 08:39
thats not it at all, they plan on taking all the best teams out of the premier league, the la liga, serie a and psg, they want to kill all the other domestic cups. imagine west ham winning the prem with lingardinho
2021-04-19 09:48
this wont happend because what i read the "founding teams" will always be qualified for everything so if it does happend it will be shit as fuck

I dont get it tbh. Franchise leagues are the future of sports when it comes to business, and clubs are always gonna be about business. Yes, this hurts UEFA, but tbh it's not like they're the good guys. They're monopolists. What sucks is that considering how UEFA wants to go about this the national team tournaments are gonna suffer.

the national teams aren't going to suffer, if fifa bans players from the super league, then another "world cup" will be made and the fifa world cup will become another Olympics match that no one cares about

Zero spirit of competition when stakes are low. The only time american sports matter are when playoffs come around, the rest of the season IS DEAD. American fans will never get to witness something like Leicester winning the premier league. Coming from the second division and winning the league against all odds. Not to mention the shitty draft system which weak teams take advantage of by playing like shit and not even trying because they know they can't win so they get a better draft pick. Worst system ever and there's a reason the rest of the world doesn't use this garbage of a system. I pray the same doesn't happen to football in europe and this shitty league burns to the ground.

Are you referencing the NBA or something? Fans are pretty loyal to their NFL and MLB teams here in the states. The regular season games do matter to the players and fans who are diehards of those sports. As for drafts.. most teams do not tank so get that out of your head. Again it might be most prevalent in the NBA because one player can drastically alter a franchises future. Even if teams do end up playing lesser skilled players what's the difference? The players still try. Go look at the premier league standings... even if those bottom teams aren't tanking what good are they? What's the difference between a shitty team in a division setting compared to a shitty team in a franchise setting? Both are shit.
2021-04-20 08:03
3 replies
No they aren't both shit. In a system where you will get RELEGATED, EVERY GAME MATTERS. Those bottom of the table teams give 100% until the very end to stay in the league. You're not guaranteed an easy game (especially in the top leagues) no matter the opponent. Not to mention the way teams qualify for the champions league which is not a given. Look at how Liverpool is struggling right now and might not make it despite winning the competition two years ago (and being the finalist a year before that) but now with the super league they won't even have have to qualify again just because they are a big club with a big fanbase which you can milk for money. Any club with money can buy themselves into the league now. I know this is a foreign concept to you because you have never seen it in action and have been used to a shit franchise monopoly system which ONLY your country uses, but we have our own way of doing sports in europe, so we'd like to keep it that way and it is understandable that people are upset. /close

+1000 Literally makes me sick to the stomach this whole thing. I also don't believe Americans understand our connection to our football clubs. For them, sport is only about high scoring games, GOAL, CHEER, LETS GO TEAM X, GOAL, CHEER, GOAL, CHEER and then they go home happy if their team scored a lot of goals. It's so different in Europe

The league usurps the champions league, which ruins the entire chain of football, the great thing about the champions league is you must earn the right to be there through domestic competition, every fan dreams of making it to the upper echelons of domestic football and qualifying to pay in Europe. These teams in the super league will be ring fenced and protected, they're just in, indefinitely, which unlike nearly every other club gives them unfettered access to huge amounts of money, regularly, meaning the rich clubs get richer whilst everyone else misses out - it just protects those clubs and allow them to always remain big clubs regardless of poor footballing decisions, whilst killing other club's chances to climb their way up to the upper echelons of football and Europe on footballing merit.

And my point about completely destroying the pyramid structure that is at the very core of what football is all about? A few teams can qualify from around the world, whilst the majority in the competition are there infinitum, it's just a mockery, and a pathetic greedy power play.

This "chain of football" is an illusion in Europe. Every national league in Europe has historically been dominated by a handful of teams, the ones with the most money.

Really, because 20 years ago Man City weren't even in the Premier League and hadn't been in Europe since the 70's. Leicester winning the league and qualifying for champions league football, that's literally every fans dream... Everton have been playing European football in recent years, West Ham are currently vying for it right now. Maybe they are fleeting visits to Europe for such clubs but making it there is a huge part of what it's all about for people, the super league will massively close that up.

Come on man, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United -- 5 of the teams involved in this project -- have won nearly every season of the Premier League since its inception almost 30 years ago. Therefore they don't need to play by the same rules as everyone else, they just get to be above other clubs? Sorry mate if you don't understand the problem there we're both just wasting our time here. Twice Man United have missed out on champions league football in recent years, because they were shit, why should that no longer carry any punishment, so long as you're one of the select special few you get to be shit and get paid large sums for it?

Whilst a few teams in the competition did, only to get knocked out by those that didn’t in all likelihood. And what, a separate champions league is going on, without these teams? What’s the point in winning it when the competition has been neutered.

But if these teams don't participate in the CL, that is on UEFA, isn't it? They are the ones saying they'll ban these teams from playing, but there's no reason why these leagues can't co-exist. But ultimately, this all rests on the fans. If there is enough discontent, the clubs will back down.
2021-04-19 21:50

Super league is mid-week, they won't play CL and super league regardless of what governing bodies allow - and if they still played in their domestic league they'd likely be fielding a 2nd string team to keep players fit for the super league fixtures, which again just ruins the integrity of the domestic leagues. Only positive of this proposal is a few people get richer, it's not good for football, the majority of fans or the local communities of other clubs not included within it.

no to the money league! football has to be there for everyone. last night 12 top clubs officially announced their intention to found a "super league", more specifically a "money league". personally, i find this extremely worrying, because it contradicts what football is all about: football lives from passion and emotions. it is a competition characterized by successes and failures, mastering and relegation, the constant hope of the victory of david against goliath, the principle of equality in a team as well as clubs with values and tradition. of course, the initiators are clubs that have a high level of recognition, but also clubs that are either owned by investors or are extremely heavily indebted. it becomes here the goal of maximizing profit with a closed league is placed above fair competition. once again it is evident: follow investors the goal is always to multiply the invested money with a corresponding return, and the founding idea, values and traditions of clubs are often here insignificant, sometimes even annoying. I clearly reject this model. football should remain diverse even in challenging times. sporty, economical, social. therefore uefa and fifa have to put a stop to it. The national competitions must be the foundation for participation in represent international competitions. football should and must be there for everyone. also in the future.
