Football Crisis

This new Super League is really concerning, however I have a really wierd feeling that this will not pan out and instead UEFA will make a deal with these teams and everything will go *somewhat* back to normal, where there is a UCL and an UEL and a UECL and all that jazz. I feel like this is the more probable event to happen at around 65%, where as there is a 30% chance that the Super League happens, and there is a 5% chance that the Super League does not happen and all the clubs will have to start in over in their own respective league pyramids. I know as an American I will probably get backlash for this as the Liverpool, United, and Arsenal owners are american, but as an arsenal fan, I know how bad Kroenke is and I can give ppl an understanding of how bad of an owner he really is. What do you think about this theory?

I see this "argument" everywhere in this site. Probably the dumbest and worst take you can make. They are not pissing FIFA, they are pissing UEFA. And even if those orgs are corrupt, is it worth killing the spirit of the game over it? Smh.

I think that the super league would be *somewhat* less corrupt than UEFA. Its a new league with no history with 20 extremely reputable teams that will garner loads of money no matter who's playing in the final.

But football isn't only about money. Why would Arsenal and Spurs be there then? They've been shit for last 10 years and the only reason is money. They want to have extra money as they never get to CL. If you think those jewish owners and F. Perez would any less corrupt... im not gonna repeat myself.

Arsenal and Spurs are worth like 2.6 billion dollars each. Besides you're not going to be good every season, there are ups and downs. Arsenal have also been one of the more prominent figures in the world of a European Super League for a while now. Chelsea finished like 10th a few years back and then the next year they won the league. I don't think they're corrupt I think they're hungry for profits and they believe this is the best way to make money. I'm not agreeing with their viewpoints im just trying to comprehend and explain them to the best of my ability.
2021-04-19 11:43
1 reply
Yeah ofc they are worth that money, because those are huge brands. Spurs have not won a single title or cup, not sure if you knew that? Arsenal have no ups, they are constantly going down, wanna know why? Because of their greedy owners. They put no money in the club, thats why they have been utter shit since Kroenke bough them. Who chose those 12 teams? Themselfs? That cant be relegated? Sport is competing, its not like, i got money so i can. Ofc i know why they are doing it, and You've already said that: "I think they're hungry for profits and they believe this is the best way to make money." As I said, IT IS ALL ABOUT MONEY.
2021-04-19 11:58
Id still rather have corrupt UEFA than closed league with 15 same clubs who will swim in their money more than ever. This move kills smaller clubs, clubs that created players who are now playing for those teams in ESL. They say this league will improve football, yes maybe for them but fuck rest of the Europe.

And who are You to decide those games are useless? You have no clue how many supporters those clubs have. Everyone would laugh if you would say Leicester gonna win PL. How you think footballers are getting to the top? Through the smaller teams. What about Ajax, Porto, Atalanta in UCL Semis? Real Madrit losing to Shahtar's bench? You guys clearly have no clue about football.
2021-04-19 11:43
Yes, exact opposite, you think like a kid. As guy above me said, those smaller teams created players who are now playing for those 12 rich teams, most of the time they destroy young talents. But enjoy watching same 15 teams every year.

2021-04-19 14:39
One of the worst takes i ever seen. No match is useless in a competitive sport. Only casuals and only bandwagon fans of big clubs think that. Lets erase all history and small clubs from football and leave only the "giants" so there are no more "useless" matches. Maybe then casual fans such as yourself will be happy. And NO! This is NOT a reaction to that, it is simply about these clubs making MORE money for themselves.

+1 Current system rewards developing football at a grassroots level, allowing smaller leagues that invest in young talent and club improvement to start challenging bigger leagues when they have the ability, but stops teams that aren't ready to challenge at top level buying in just because they have big money
2021-04-19 13:22
If the Super League actually happens, it will be the complete death of football as we know it. As a Tottenham fan, I am disgusted with the decisions that the club, and other clubs have made. Its all for money, that's all they care about. No consideration for the fans at all. If you have seen the Gary Neville interview about it, he hit the nail right on the head.

i'm only surprised that there are so many differing opinions going out there - from fans even - when this matter is as close to black and white EVIL as possible and against the good of football itself. a lot of people are quick to go on "what about fifa/uefa" - they're dumpster fires and they need to be fixed, but they will not get fixed in any way by this notion of rich clubs' equivalent of taking the ball and going home.

Almost every national league in Europe is already "closed", clubs need a professional license to access the first division (and sometimes to 2nd and 3rd division). Smaller clubs can't access higher division even if they did better. Plus European Rugby also does that in a way with the Six Nations tournament.

2021-04-19 11:39
i get your point with six nations but i wouldnt call it same. It started as 4 nations to just include teams from UK, because there was really no competition in europe and also it wasnt created to just generate money
2021-04-19 13:58

It's different of course, it's a nations league and not a club league but the plot is the same. Furthermore, starting next season, UEFA will have 3 continental cups: - Champions League - Europa League - Europa Conference League ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021%E2%80%9322_UE.. ) So why cannot a fourth cup with some of the most prestigious teams can't happen? It will let access to UEFA club competition to new teams of UK, Spain and Italy.
2021-04-19 14:14
To follow my previous comment (to not make it EXTREMELY Long to read lol). The only problem I see in that Super League is about the new Club World Cup organized by FIFA (starting in 2022?): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_FIFA_Club_W..

That plan failed though. PSG, Dortmund and Bayern declined the offer. They'll probably make new superteams out of these backups since they have a shit ton of fans yet limited funds. A European Super League team is expected to profit 100M€ with no FFP limitations per season and they'll use this on the 4 teams I've mentioned as hopium, I really don't want that to happen for any team.

FIFA/UEFA should NOT be allowed to have a monopoly and go unchallenged, people said all the same things theyre saying about the super league about the champions league when that came in and it worked just fine. if they want to maintain their monopoly then they need to put the money up or theyre gonna lose out, but caving to them and letting them run the football world unchallenged is worse than allowing new creation in reality there is going to be a fuck ton of negotiating and everything will be completely fine, apart from the champions league is now the super league at worst (the only negative is some clubs get places even if theyre shit), but its far from the death of football not much else will likely change they know without the big clubs theyre losing their barganing power and will be making negotiations to make it work, all this talk that they will be banned from domestic leagues etc is just twitter hype, it makes no sense that instead of coming to agreement that works for both that they would just ban them and lose a fuck ton of revenue in spite throwing their dummy because they cannot get their own way and force a monopoly where they get to decide everything in reality its not good vs bad, its money vs money, neither side is better than the other they both just want to increase their income

yes, they should all be able to play in this league if they qualify, the teams having guaranteed places is why they shouldn't be allowed to go ahead with it, nobody wants spurs to do nothing all season and get to play there because theyre part of the "big six", the actual idea itself is fine and wont kill football though if the teams had to qualify i just think its funny people are happy with uefa having football in a choke hold and think if theres any more competition instead of theirs that football will be dead, theres been many new leagues and tournaments created over time thats how it works, and no matter who holds the tournment its always going to be about money football is just a big business and it has been for decades, although i think most people think this league is instead of domestic football and isnt just a champions league replacement which is why theyre mad

It's an absolute disgrace, I cannot believe the complete disregard for fans, history and culture. It was expected that an attempt to Americanize our sport would inevitably come one day because so many greedy Americans/Asians own the clubs now. I hope the clubs will be hit with the toughest sanctions possible. Suspension from national leagues, prohibit players from playing on the national team etc. No sanction is hard enough, imo. Then they can enjoy playing one game a week in a closed tournament with absolutely nothing on the line, and no fans on the stadiums.

Lots of people have been decrying this move as "all about the money" and "breaking the pyramid of football that has existed for 100+ years", but let's actually think about it.... The Premier League is to the old Division 1 what the ESL is to the Champions League. Prestige and success is already tied to money, and money has influxed in to the game at alarming rates unopposed. The only teams to win the Premier League have been teams with HUGE financial backing - Blackburn had a huge injection of cash before they won the league in 1992, Leicester were bought by a billionaire before they won the league, Man City were bought by a Sheik before they won the league... The fairytale idea of the leagues working as they are is laughable. Let the 'big 6' go and enjoy their solipsistic nonsense, and let the rest of the footballing world get on without them. Then maybe, just maybe, a team could win the league without being bought by billionaires first.

yeah, I get the feeling that they'll reach a deal to make some sort of format change to the UCL to make it similar to this dumb super league

Nah both Fifa and Uefa are trash and mafia, i hope both the "big clubs" and Uefa headbutt each other to death, none is more deserving than the other. And those big teams trying to make this new league can go suck a dick and die for all i care, never watching any of their games ever again.
2021-04-19 14:22
hooligans/ultras aka the bad guys told u already many times probably almost 20 years that uefa is mafia.

Hope this new league and all the loser clubs involved in it go bankrupt. I know for a fact i won't be supporting any team or watching any game from this league, and most people i know and questioned about it say the same. trying to make a exculsive league for big money teams will be the end of "big football" only watching local from now on

I don't agree with Super League's concept BUT Champions League system is fucking horseshit aswell. You can't give 4 spots to big leagues in a competition where every team should be champions in their domestic league, its just dumb.I don't care United as Premier League's second seed is better than whatever champion in other division, they still shouldn't be there, Champions League should be just for champions. You can give big leagues more spots in Europa League for example and make Europa League more important, but don't give them these spots in Champions League.

So you would like to see a league next season with Man City, PSG/Lille, Atletico/Real, Bayern, Porto, Ajax, Inter and a few more quite irrelevant European teams. Instead of a lot more quality teams from the big leagues? Your version of Europa league/Champions league would guarantee a tougher competition in the Europa league.
2021-04-19 18:18
seems like you have no idea of ucl system they dont give "4 spots" this leagues earn their way to this spots it depends on ranking of national leagues uefa.com/memberassociations/uefarankings.. you cant give moldova and england same amount of spots
