Explain in what way. Never going to be currency unless it's backed /owned by government.

hijacking this comment because i cba to scroll down, your government is owned by private companies, if private companies accept crypto more and more as payment methods, there you go. You can't tell me it's not currency if I use doge coin to buy a tesla, that's literally the principle of currency. It's something I use in exchange for goods.

If more and more companies start to accept it , crypto will definitely become a taxable currency. Chine just launched its digital currency and other nations are thinking about it. So its not like crypto will become irrelevant in future , it is the future.

?????????????????? what you said makes no sense? altcoins can be used to facilitate monetary transactions. that is literally the key purpose of XRP, XLM and so many more. others implement things like smart contracts which allow for things like crowdfunding, donation pools, voting systems, cloud computing etc.

We had the same discussion already like two months ago, you and me. I do not know what you are so upset about? Other people making money and you missed out? Now you are afraid of buying into a bubble? Crypto leaves in your head rent free and you fail to make a coherent argument in your replies.

Seriously why are you like. Why are all bitcoiners so passive agressive like this. I believe that it's just a stock that isn't based off of a company doing well or bad

Cause you are the one who envies others. You are not trying to protect people from making losses, then you would have made a coherent thread and argument about the risks of crypto. You are here merely to spread FUD and look for an argument. Call me passive aggressive if you want, but I am not out here making threads like GOLD IS DEAD. WHY ARE ALL YOU GOLDIES SO UPSET🤣 etc. Because quite frankly, it is none of my business and as long as they are making profits I am happy for them. Plus I actually made an entire thread yesterday warning people of a pump and dump coin which gathered a lot of traction, so I am not a crypto sheep. (two hours later it lost thirty percent)

That is a lie though. A blatant one. If you bought SHIBA INU coin on the 28th of February and sold the very top, which you both certainly didn't you would have a ROI of 44000%, aka 440x. 440*300=>132000 at the very, very most. most likely made 50 bucks lmao.

Govs/banks might use blockchain tech but never some shitcoin created by randoms. Should be obvious to everyone with > 5 iq that "decentralized, no gov intervention, fixed/limited supply etc etc" that make libertarians horny are not positives for banks and govs. Current crypto are mostly useless as payment or value storage and are not used as such. Maybe some crypto with stable prices (i.e. linked to Dollar or Euro) could work in developing countries where gov doesn't have the power to regulate and bank access is bad/unreliable, but I haven't heard any convincing argument why they would out-compete something like paypal or other solutions from fintech with their insanely deep pockets.

I understand your objection, but government decisions are backed by politics, and no democratic country would want to make its people unhappy. If majority of the people accept and demand cryptos, it will have to come into circulation. No random person controls a crypto-currency lol. Wait wait, I thought you knew how cryptos work? I mean no disrespect to you, but do you know the maths behind crypto-currency? If you have studied discrete maths, probability, statistics, and information theory, cryptography and number theory, you would know that it's literally mathematically/computationally IMPOSSIBLE for someone to *control* a cryptocurrency like bitcoin. And the protocol design itself is open-source, controlled by a public community of experienced scientists and developers, and anybody can contribute in it, if they have enough achievements and experience. I have published a few research papers myself, on security of bitcoin blockchain.

Why even make a thread about this? You clearly have next to 0 knowledge about what you are even trying to argue here, and less knowledge about how circulated currency works. There are 100 other ways that you can publicly embarrass yourself with much less effort rather than calling people "Elon Musk bots".
2021-04-22 00:18
I'm not saying soemoen controls it I'm just saying that it's owned by a random company that we don't know about
2021-04-20 19:28
6 replies
No, it's not owned by anyone, that's the important thing. It can be created by anyone. You could create a new crypto, if you knew how to. But before it goes into use, your blockchain protocol would be mathematically tested and verified by the community, using supercomputers and maths fundamentals. It's literally impossible to own the crypto-currency. It's not a monolithic piece that can be owned. It's a decentralized system owned by the entire community of stakeholders, not the creators. Never mind, this would take a lot of explaining, and I'm not in the mood right now lol. Apologies for that. Have a nice day :)

Have you seen corruption rates ? Have you seen hyper inflation because of that ? Have you seen people working and saving their entire lives just for it all to be worthless ? Why have trust, which will be broken, when you can have trustless systems ? I can have my worries on stuff like Monero (XMR) simply because human greed will circumvent taxes which is not benificial to healthy communities. Allthough i love XMR, it does worry me. If you dont think crypto is the future, your are either a boomer or braindead.

There is not much difference ? Except nobody can hyper inflate based on greed or centralised bad decisions such as dictators ? You earn your wage in digital currency, you buy things in digital currency, you manage your own assets, you transact value with the people of your choice. Effectively replacing banks with financial advisors that dont control your money, but advise. You loan digital currency and you re-pay digital currency. The absolute biggest problem will be to ensure taxes are paid and management of greed/crime. Freedom is more important that any of those, and so is reduction of corruption. Universal basic income can be solved on different scale, and billionaires/trillionairs will have to go So tell me, what do you see as the problem?

Didnt read the whole thread, but crypto is basically just a stockmarket for youngsters. Just like the stockmarket, bubbles will burst and ppl will hang themselves for loosing their lifesavings (and ofc some will get filthy rich). As far as a practical currency goes, sure - in the future, when it stabilize and ppl know from day to day that "a dollar is a dollar".

It can be many things at once, it is also the future of currencies [not the only possible currency]. Even rich real estate investors like Robert Kiyosaki invests in cryptos. Don't hold yourself back because it is a trend, make sure you invest on everything that seems to be good.
2021-04-21 23:27
Well if u argument it like that pretty easy answer. How many in venezuela trusts their government? For some reason people trust more dollar than their own currency given by their own government. In time of crisis these kind of trust issues stand out but actually by some level they are always there in global economy. Many of the crypto projects tries to solve that exact trust issue. Make a system that you can trust without trusting other stakeholders using the system. If at some point dollar starts to lose its trust (signs are already here ) I bet next global safe haven might well be some crypto application.

that would happen if the government / "distributers" would allow it (which they wouldn't because they'd lose their power over the circulation of money)
2021-04-21 23:50

... but they have allowed it, u think Venezuela will ban dollar? Well they could but that would not solve the trust issue to their own currency and then the same spot would be taken by the next safest currency after dollar. The current price of some cryptos might be a scam, but the basic ideas (some of them) and the issue many of them are trying to solve related to trust in a network, are real. I don't get the weird opposition against some technology even when it would applied to some things currently controlled by government. In Finland it is legal to own dollars even though Finnish government does not control it.

I made around 100,000$ from an initial of 2,000$ in a span of 2 months and Im kinda new to this. I think its a really really great and smart way for people to make a lot of money especially on this bullmarket. I do also think it has a role in the future, a big one since some of them are currently the only decentralized asset (basically not owned by the government) in the world which makes it valuable for some.

Oh tons of people do, its because they have no clue about investing 101. They invest with hot money (money that they need in upcoming days / weeks), they go all in most of the time on a new project which are high risk and use insane amounts of money right away (mortgage or tutition money). They also bought at ATH price and panic sell when they see the price goes down. Its just mistake after mistake which is painful to see. As long you nail down the 101 basics + decent research, you can def make some good money on a bullrun cycle.

Crypto Mining is good money maker (If you invest high initially money will flow back quick, also living in a cold area helps as well as living in a country that has low electricity costs) Other than that its just another way of gambling, kinda safer in a way if you know what you are doing. Can double your money if you know when to buy when its dipping.

No currency is backed by anything. It's only valuable because we act as though it is. Gold standard was done away with ages ago. Just instead of a central bank controlling the supply of USD, you mine bitcoin. It's not a terrible system from what little I know about it, but no currency is useful when its as volatile as bitcoin.

Yes but the government would stop bitcoin before it could ever be a currency. And only when bitcoin is fully mined is when it could be a currency but with Elon Musk pumping money in and out of bitcoin I don't think he believes it could be a currency.
