Being by far the most succesful player in the game maybe he thinks its time to quit at the top before he gets washed up and destroys his legacy by prolonging the inevidable like GTR did. Man is the goat of GO so better retire now. "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain."

26 this year. And yes it is quite old for an competitive esports player. You can already see all these younger kids popping out one by one who will be far superior individuals in no time. And I didnt say that he needs to retire did I now? I said that he probs will if Astralis wont succeed in the upcoming major. He is already worse than what he was and the downhill will only get steeper the further he keeps playing. Retiring as the goat > retiring as a washed up bot.

You keep arguing the fact that 26 IS old in esports, you keep dismissing my point all the time by coming up with "retiring at 30 > retiring at 26". So whos the arrogant one? And I did appreciate your opinion when you didn't try to argue mine. "retiring at 25, when you won last major < retiring at 30+" - So should he keep playing for lets say 5 more years, getting worse and worse, probably not going to win anything anymore and destroy his legacy the same way GTR did with his? Explain to me why its so common in every sport for athletes to retire at the top? To preserve their legacies, being the best and thats something noone can take away from you. We've all seen what happened with Schumacher for example, he was on his peak, retired and later made a comeback just to show how he wasnt able to compete with the younger generation anymore. We got Jágr who refuses to retire even if he is way past his glory, and has made his way from the shining NHL lights to chance liga which is basically the same as if device would keep on playing untill he is in some t3 team where noone would even remember him being one of the bests.

Using 26, instead of his real 25 is kinda cringe, ngl. I think, that leaving CS/Sports when you are good is kinda pussy move. Leaving scene cuz you are scared, that you gonna downhill is actually cringe. Even if you arent the best version of yourself anymore, doesnt mean you cant be the champion. Firstly CS is a team game, when you were 20 years, you were winning by outfragging your enemies, now you are 25, you are very skilled player, you can use your skill to outsmart your enemies, which is also the way to win. GTR is still one of the most respected CS players, who has proven, that he was actually the best in his prime. Yeah, last years of his profession career werent the best, but at least he tried! No he can retire without feeling, that he could have won more tournaments, I think its fair enough. Only newfag kids or baiter can afford theirselves to trashtalk GTR, and Im 200% sure they arent gonna be respected by other people for this trashtalk. People love GTR, people remember GTR and, of course, people respect GTR! I personally think, that people, who retire at their top are pussies! Imagine, if Zeus retired after Na'Vi! He wouldnt have been CS:GO Major champion, but he came back stronger and got it! And I dont get your take, tbh. Being best in 2015, but sucking ass in 2020, doesnt mean you werent the best in 2015. "if device would keep on playing untill he is in some t3 team where noone would even remember him being one of the bests." - People would. Only stupid fuckers, bettors and kids gonna trash talk him.

He is 26 in 4 months. Using "cringe" so much is kinda cringe, ngl. I do disagree with you on this one. Athletes dont leave because they are scared, they leave because what matters to them is their legacy, their name and their mark on the sport they love. Sure some keep playing 'till they cant anymore but thats a rare bunch. Astralis should be the most experienced team and they should be outsmarting everyone right? Instead they barely can take a map from the current "top teams". Sorry buddy but in a game such as CS smart plays get you only so far, you actually need to be able to kill your enemies as well. Thats something even device himself said quite recently. That they are not individually on a shape where they could challenge others, sad but its a fact. To the GTR part, I do find it sad that ppl are dissing him so hard but you gotta admit it, he had no place on T1 team for a long time already and was playing only due to his name, not for his skills. Ill c u here when Astralis drops out of the next major and device announces his retirement. Till that I expect him to take a break but as I stated earlier, if they wont win the next major thats gonna be it.

25 is prime for a player.... the slump begins late twenties, and not always because of age. It's mostly because CS players don't get paid as much as regular sports players and need to look after investments to secure their futures. or they've started a family and have other responsibilities. This means they can't grind the game as much. If you're 16- 23 years old you can just nolife the game and play 12 hours a day because that's all you know how to do.
2021-04-21 23:16

25 in esports is way older than average though. Maybe not in CS but in esports overall. In case of device he has made enough money to live multiple lifetimes so doubt he has any issues with that. Why would one keep on forcing himself to play when he isnt performing on his level anymore? Why wouldnt he retire as a competitive player and move on to something like coaching? Its funny how everyone of you keep arguing about his retirement like as if I said that he must retire. I said that his retirement would not come as a surprise and provided a reason for that.

"Its funny how everyone of you keep arguing about his retirement like as if I said that he must retire" "better retire now" maybe he actually enjoys playing the game, and wants to continue playing. has that thought crossed your mind? The prime age for most awpers in CS seems to be around 25. (guardian + fallen were examples from the past). Do you understand? He is the only Astralis player playing decent RN. His level will remain constant for another couple of years at least, given that he trains as hard as he used to. There are a number of international teams with mediocre awpers that could use dev1ce (faze, OG, complexity). Fnatic and NIP need a good awper very badly. If he retires now, the scene will have lost a great player.

I actually think you are right. All of what I’ve tried to say makes sense to me and is not supposed to be any kind of diss towards device (nor do I wish him to retire) but it obviously doesnt seem to be understandable for others. :’D E. TLDR version of my point is: If Astralis wont find success soonish, I would not be surprised if device retired as a t1 player. I obviously hope that does not happen. -<(bunch of replies explaining why his retiriment would be justified and would not come as a surprise)>-

Also maybe people just like doing what they are doing and even if they are not the best anymore, they are still good enough to do good to the scene anyway. They know whats best for them more than you. Source: Trust me bro

I see no answer to my arguments. Just a rephrase of your initial post. And he definitely has not enough money to live through 3 lifetimes. There are expensive things you can buy. Holy fuck you are delusional. I state it again for the SIXTH time; I do NOT wish device to retire but I wont be surprised if he does (as a player at least). Btw, The average scandinavian earns around 1m € (before taxes) in his lifetime. Device has 2m already just in price money. As I have stated like 10 times already, its better to retire on top than see yourself getting washed up, not being able to win anything. Like I said to the other guy, think about GTR for example, the last few years of his career he had no place on a t1 team skillwise. Ofc I hope that device wont fall off but it sure does seem like it at least on the current online comp. And yes, I’d much rather see him retire than become the next gtr out of those two options.

I think it would be different this time. Device is such a consistent performer and isn't setup for kills like a traditional star player on astralis. Long story short, I think device is the type of awper that can slot in to any team that doesnt have zywoo and simple and instantly make them better. Faze with cold, rain, twistzz, karrigan and device would be the most balanced roster they have ever had. Broky is a very solid up and coming player, but doesn't take over games by sheer positioning / decision the way device does. Device would without a doubt make them a better team immediately.

Dev1ce is good because he has a team around and the team is good because he's there creating space for them, it's a total symbiosis that will not happen on Faze, which is more of a chaotic and contact playstyle.

probably getting nervous during finals again or is completely bored of the online era, basically that which killed astralis's momentum.. There isnt 1 pro that will tell you hes enjoying CS right now, maybe the youngens from Gambit, Forze, Heroic, etc.. Since theyre basically enjoying the best years of their lives, we gamers dont go out and now theyre literally not allowed to go out..... Best time ever to be a nerdy csgo pro gamer wannabe, you dont even have to go to lans to prove yourself!

Astralis aint as good anymore and will not get that good again Might want to seek a different team, maybe even G2 if he wants to and G2 can pay or if he's out of contract soon. Or he'll take a break, he is a god in this game, unlikely that he goes to valorant

what ive heard is that they had some internal conflicts & dev1ce had relationships issues with emilia cuz him going to bootcamp in denmark etc idk, and something about NiP might take device :D

I think astralis was experimenting who can they replace. Device isn't really the man who easily gives up, but neither he isn't that guy which disagree's with teams opinion. I think device was cut off because of personal problems not individual abillities.

maybe he want to take a break just like xyp and glaive did last year
